Visited for walking boots for me and my son, Ann was super helpful and really knowledgeable about what would suit my foot shape best.
Came away with boots for each of us, very happy 😁

I collected the online order and bought other things too. The staff was very helpful to get the best deal for me.

The shop 5-star. Web Site 3-star.
Bought Merrell Gore-tex shoes from the web site in my normal size. But they were too small. Took them back to the shop for refund/exchange and it was explained that the Gore-tex layer made the shoes smaller and an extra half or full size was required. The shop did not stock half sizes but the next size up fitted perfectly. So I did an exchange and am 100% happy.
But if this sizing is known by the shop staff, why is this information not on the web site. Surely it is the interest of the company and the buyers to get it right 😊

Great service and advice. My wife was looking for a new pair of trekking shoes and Zak was extremely helpful and patient, going through multiple options and providing lots of advice. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Tanya took the time to go through our equipment list with us in advance and then spent a couple of hours with both Jack and me on separate occasions, making sure we had the right kit and giving us plenty of helpful advice.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I think it’s important to recognise people when they genuinely deserve it, and Jack certainly does.

We came into the shop knowing exactly which walking boots my partner wanted, but we had no idea on sizing. As a result, she ended up trying on multiple sizes of the same boot, which could have easily been frustrating for the person serving us. Jack couldn’t have been more patient. He was friendly, easy to talk to, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and completely stress-free.

We ended up chatting about his walk across Dartmoor and where we were heading on holiday in North Wales. It never felt like he was just trying to make a sale – it felt like a genuine conversation, which made the whole experience that much better.

While we were there, another customer interrupted our conversation very abruptly and rather rudely demanded to try on some shoes. Jack handled the situation calmly and professionally, then carried on serving us with a smile on his face. Having worked in the service industry myself, I know how difficult some customers can be, so I really appreciated how well he dealt with it.

People are often quick to complain but not always quick to praise. Jack is exactly the kind of person who deserves recognition. He made what could have been a simple shopping trip into a genuinely enjoyable experience just by being kind, patient and treating people with respect.

Having misshaped feet and difficulty in bending I was delighted by the level of service, stock knowledge and understanding that I received in Black's in Newbury from the assistant Ann. With humour and patience she was able to fit me up with not one but two pairs of walking shoes/boots and advise me about their wear. This was in stark contrast to their competitors ‘up the road’, Mountain Warehouse and Sports Direct who operate a self-service approach and appeared disinterested in selling me anything at all!

Jack was brilliant at helping me choose the right walking boots …he was patient and extremely helpful and knowledgeable and gave great advice. I have been for a walk in my new boots and they are super comfy!

Came in to find boots for my son's DofE, we were helped by Will, he was fantastic, very helpful and kind, all the staff were wonderful. We will be back :)
