Don't bother a rip off

Went to the one in stafford don't bother it's just like an old car park. Just a circle basically rough tarmac and not a mile long. Charged£2 on gate just to park then wanted£40 for insurance and then another£35 for digital pictures what a rip off and very disorganised. Would not recommend this place at all.

Cancelled event at short notice. No refund provided.

Booked for 5 people on 13/9/24. They cancelled the date and didn’t provide a reason as to why. I was going to rearrange 3 of my vouchers for another date and get a refund on 2 as the people I booked for live abroad. Fast forward 4 months from the cancellation and they haven’t processed the refund through virgin experiences. I’ve sent them multiple emails, called multiple times and still not heard anything. Book with this company at your own risk.

Great experience!

We went for my son's 10th birthday and it was great. The staff were all so friendly, kind and accommodating. My son absolutely loved it and the video footage we got on a usb afterwards was a great touch. We went early (possibly the first slot for the day) and it was getting busier as we left. I would defo advise going early and I would 110% recommend this experience. Thanks again to the whole team!

Great experience day at Castle Combe Circuit

Really friendly and engaged staff right through from reception to track staff and drivers, special mention to Lee who was in the Ferrari 430!! Really good guidance and encouragement 👍 The three cars I chose were all available and obviously well looked after, no delays and good post drive sales with photos etc.plus what an enjoyable circuit at Castle Coombe.!

Really impressed, every single person we dealt with from start to finish was delightful, accommodating, and cheerful. Cars and track unbelievable, obviously! Fantastic driving experience, fully recommended!

Disorganised Chaos Zero Customer Care

From the start it was all about upselling the extras. We spent an extra £80 before we had even started. Insurance USB and sighting lap turned out to be a Landrover.
It was disorganised and definitely overbooked, out to make as much money as possible.
Nobody had the time slots they booked because you can turn up and book on the day, so overcrowded.
Customer service is disappointing to say the least. Here have a £5 refund after spending over £200.
As the person below me has said, DONT BOTHER WITH THE USB. The quality is TERRIBLE.

Don’t bother with the £25 IN CAR VIDEO USB , rubbish quality and no sound, they even lost one of our videos WHICH WE STILL DONT HAVE even after we contacted them twice regarding this an NO reply 😡 the staff booking in were Polite and friendly, I wouldn’t say it was perfectly organised, but ran smoothly enough but not on time. Only enough time for 2 laps per car. So although our son enjoyed the experience, it wouldn’t say it’s value for money. … no reply from 6th Gear so going to claim on CREDIT CARD for goods received NOT as described

Its an absolute con

Its an absolute con, expect to be ripped off by stuff they havent advertised, like paying £45 insurance to drive a car incase you crash it, this wasnt advertised before i purchased the experience. If you crash or hit a cone expect to pay £5000 compensation, thats not a joke either. Oh yeh expect to pay £25 for your photographs too which also isnt advertised. I would recommend this to my worst enemy.

Bought this through a virgin experience for my fiancés 30th. Better adrenaline rush than a rollercoaster! He absolutely loved it and they were all extremely organised and very friendly. Can’t recommend enough!

Great experience for my partner…

Great experience for my partner birthday present in Stafford. They drove the Ferrrari, Lamborgini, and Aston Martin. All the staff were helpful and friendly especially the instructors. Will defintely be going again in the future. Highly recommend

I visited the Stafford venue today for…

I visited the Stafford venue today for the 4 super car blast, passenger ride and photo.

Really enjoyed it and definitely would go again.
I’ve read reviews before regarding instructors not letting us have a good feel for the car, however today it’s not been an issue, I’ve had my foot down quite a lot and had a good feel for the cars.

I drove 4 cars; Ferrari 430 (ended up being the 458 :D ) Nissan GTR, Focus RS and the Audi R8 v10, however this turned out to be the v8 model.

Only downside really was the R8 being the V8 when I only picked it for the V10 engine, also the R8 was missing a paddle shifter so I couldn’t get a feel for the car as the instructor was doing the gears and the gearbox felt very clunky (r-tronic)

The 458 instead of the 430 was a very nice surprise though and I would definitely recommend booking this car, it made the day for me.

the photo which was supposedly included was actually just a £10 voucher towards one, so be aware of this

Car parking is £2, not sure why the need for this as it’s just a patch of grass and rubble at the side of an airfield.

There are additional charges also, such as a demo lap at £10, extra lap at £15 and a few others, videos, upgrades etc.

Overall, It was a great experience and I would definitely revisit!

Had an amazing day until I had to drive…

Had an amazing day until I had to drive with Mohammed in a Lambo, grabs the steering wheel, complete egotist, ruined the day. All other staff members were lovely, instructors amazing, a lot of upselling when your there, be prepared!
It would be 5* if upselling wasn’t so in your face and instructors like Mohammed didn’t think they were the worlds best drivers and grabbing the wheel ruining the experience.

Decent very short driving experience, but the extra costs and conditions spoil the event.

Voucher validity time is important to note as many venue dates will be booked up months in advance. I ended up booking the only remaining date available for my chosen cars, and as that was on a week-end, that attracted an extra £25 charge.

My advice when using a voucher is to book the dates you want to drive the same day you get the voucher, and if your dates are not available then you can try to cancel. Note that the terms and conditions for cancelling within 14 days only apply if you've booked directly with 6th Gear and even then you may be charged £30-£50 to cancel, (distance selling regulations UK should allow cancellation without reason or penalty within 14 days of purchase!) If you've booked through Virgin or other supplier then take it up with that particular provider.

Waiver ripoff? - yes it would seem to be, it's very expensive at £25 for ten minute drive and there are external companies that can cover event excess insurance on a daily basis a lot cheaper. BTW, you don't get this £25 refunded for bringing the car back undamaged.
The waiver is optional, but the bullying techniques deployed would lead you to think the staff are commission based - they're probably not, but the high pressure tactic leans that way. The scaremongering narrative that you are liable to pay up to £5000 for minor damage is often enough to make most people pay up. 6th Gear is not unique in deploying this high pressure sales practice however this behaviour does put a damper on the whole event.

The vehicles were ultimately both fit for purpose, the exteriors were nice and clean with no discernable damage but the interiors were a little grubby.

Another disappointment was the transmission types in use, as a driver who enjoys blipping the throttle and changing down the box manually to enter corners, I found the auto transmission took away some of the control I normally enjoy. The three laps per car was not really sufficient to acclimatise to the transmission techniques. I think each vehicle on the website should be allocated as auto/manual so customers can book their preference.

The instructors were pleasant and professional enough.

Somewhat unprofessional and making me slightly uncomfortable was the level of name calling at the track side. I dare say I would have heard my name being called if I were sitting in the pub next door (with the Juke Box blaring.) Announcing each name to all in attendance is a breach of privacy and should STOP.

Regarding photography, the 6th Gear "100 questions to ask" website page states:
"In many cases, participants are allowed to take photos and videos for personal use, but there are often certain guidelines and restrictions in place"
I use a GoPro chest mounted cam, there were no safety issues involved and instructors would not be caught on camera. The GoPro footage was intended to be only for private use, and all stated guidelines and restrictions would be followed.

Sophie at the registration desk indicated there would be no problem with the GoPro, but the trackside guy told me to remove the camera before getting into the car, all without explanation - presumably because it cuts out the professional photographer and therefore impinges on 6th Gear revenue stream (£35.)
My advice would be to leave your camera at home, enjoy the day, and if you're feeling flush then spend £35 on the 'professional' footage/images.

6th Gear often refer customers to their "Terms and Conditions" as published on their website, yet these terms and conditions do not prohibit customers own camera equipment being used?

Not withstanding the above observations, the experience was enjoyable, short, expensive, but enjoyable. This experience completes my aim to drive three Aston Martins, a Ferrari and a Lambo, so now it's time for the Microlite, Cessna light aircraft and Helicopter experiences. Oh, the joy of retirement!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this review. There are a couple of points that we would like to address for those who may be reading this.

1) The Collision Damage Waiver Cover is an optional extra which we have to offer all customers at the point of booking/registration. With the experiences that we offer, there are many elements of risks involved and it is our responsibility to ensure that all customers are aware of these risks when declining the damage waiver. It isn’t a “scaremongering tactic” that you would be liable to pay up to the first £5000.00 if you cause damage, this is true. We have to make sure everyone is aware of this. We can see that you did decline the waiver on the day, which is well within your rights.

2) A majority of supercars nowadays are designed with paddle-shift transmissions, which is something that is out of our control. The only manual cars we have on our fleet are the Ford Focus RS, and the Ariel Atom.

3) Regarding the amount of laps that you had in the car, this all depends on the gift voucher that has been purchased. We do have packages which contain more laps/mileage.

4) We call names out on the day as this is a much easier process to get customers attention, we would never call out any personal information, just the names. There is no other sufficient way for us to do this process.

5) You mentioned the “100 Questions to Ask” part of the website regarding the use of GoPros. It states “Safety Regulations: Ensure that taking photos or videos doesn't compromise the safety of yourself, other participants, or the event staff. Follow any safety guidelines provided” as a company, we do not classify driving with a chest-mounted camera to be safe. Should anything have happened whilst you were driving which resulted in the airbags being deployed, this would have caused severe injuries to yourself, so it was up to the Event Co-Ordinators to decide. Not the Driver Registration Team. After discussing this with the pit-lane team, this was explained to you on the day before you got into your car.

Again, we do appreciate you taking your time to write this review, and we do hope that we have addressed your comments properly.

Take a picnic, a book and an umbrella!

Today I went to Castle Combe and drove 3 cars. It took 4hrs 15 mins, mainly standing in the cold waiting for my name to be called out. After waiting for an hour after my scheduled time for my favourite car there was still a long wait so a lady kindly switched me to another car. I believe the owner of all of the cars and the company (Andy) is only concerned with profits. There was no customer service at all. The photos I looked at were of other drivers, but after 20 minutes I found a few photos of my own driving experience. It was understaffed with no interest in the customer apart from the drivers, who were nice. Book in the summer when it’s warm, take a picnic, take a book and don’t expect anyone to interact with you. Thank goodness it wasn’t raining today!
