Ho scritto per richiedere un rimborso la risposta automatica dice che la mia richiesta è la numero 847757 e che ci vorrà tempo per leggerla. LONTANI DA QUESTI TRUFFATORI

I canceled my subscription almost 2 years ago and they kept taking money from my bank account on 2024 and 2025. I just realized this today! Avoid this site!

PER ACADEMIA-edu: TRUFFA INFORMATICA?
Esperienza quasi identica a quanti mi precedono. In data 7/4/25 prelevati tramite PayPal 315,98€; segnalata truffa a PayPal non riconosciuta come tale e inviata PEC a Academia.edu e per conoscenza a PayPal per dichiarare di aver proceduto in data 9/2/25 al pagamento volontario di 1,oo euro per la lettura di un articolo, motivo per cui erano in possesso evidentemente dei dati bancari, e specificare di non avere mai stipulato alcun contratto che giustificasse l'addebito. Dal 2016 ricevevo mail di citazioni sulla mia persona in contesti accademici e successivamente articoli non apribili in quanto richiestivi di pagamento mai espletato e quindi non aperti. L'utimo pagamento è avvenuto (senza rendermene conto perché impostato pagamento automatico).
Alla PEC Academia ha risposto di aver proceduto al rinnovo dell' abbonamento Premium annuale, ben €315,98 e che l'eventuale rimborso richiesto non rientra nelle politiche aziendali, aggiungendo soltanto di interrompere il rinnovo annuale automatico.
Nelle ore successive ( notturne) PayPal mi invia una mail che smentisce la precedente: "Pratica chiusa a tuo favore", con tanto di rimborso della somma.
Accademia in data odierna 19/04/25 manda una mail in cui fai riferimento a un contratto ( mai ricevuta prima ) con cui mi informa della avvenuta cessazione della modalità di rinnovo.
Mi scrivono inoltre che non vendono prodotti singoli ma solo abbonamenti annuali.
In assenza di un contratto che abbia caratteristiche di trasparenza circa innanzitutto la natura del prodotto, l'entità del costo, e soprattutto la sottoscrizione del contraente per accettazione dei vincoli sia nullo e ricorrerò all' Autorità Giudiziaria per richiedere accertamenti sul caso, al fine di evitare che altri inconsapevoli vengano raggirati da trappole occulte e ingannevoli per vedersi estirpare denaro in modalità del tutto inconsapevole.

Sudden unexpected change in subscription from £70 to £202. No warning for why subscription should change, despite this being contrary to their own terms and conditions. This is a SCAM. If you write to them you get an automated response ignoring the questions asked.
UPDATE: Proved that Academia had broken their own terms and conditions. PAYPAL refunded everything within 1 day. EXCELLENT SERVICE PAYPAL

I would like to give zero stars but this is unfortunately not possible. Similar to most of the posts I see here, I all of a sudden need to pay 356 euros instead of 79 last year. I asked to cancel my subscription per direct, and a refund. Cancel yes, but no refund was the answer. Do not subscribe !!

Similar to others, I was a victim of Academia.edu’s unethical business practices. They auto-renewed my subscription from a “50% off” promotion rate of $74.50 in 2024 to $499 this year. I contacted their support team the same day the renewal processed (while it was still pending) requesting cancellation and received a reply stating “we are not offering refunds for any Academia Premium renewal payments at this time.” I fully intend to dispute this transaction and strongly discourage anyone from using this service.

Another avoid at all costs. I took out a subscription 2 years ago. No email received about massive price hike, and automatic payment taken. I've not used it so they are not out of pocket, I don't want it and they won't refund me. AVOID.

Esperienza quasi identica a Manfro Neves. Ieri prelevati tramite PayPal 242,78€; dal mio account Academia.edu risulta che il 17/9/24 ho pagato (senza rendermene conto, ma in quel caso è stata colpa mia, per imbranataggine) per l'abbonamento Premium annuale, ben €157,38. Alle mie mail di protesta hanno risposto soltanto che in questo caso non ho diritto a rimborso. Anche Paypal lo conferma.
AGGIORNAMENTO: Alle 23 di lunedì 14 PayPal mi invia una mail che smentisce la precedente: "Pratica chiusa a tuo favore", con tanto di rimborso di 242,78€! E se non mi fossi accorto dell'anomalia e, soprattutto, se non avessi insistito con mail e telefonate? Da Academia, per ora, nessuna spiegazione. Insomma: visto che, a quanto pare, non sono l'unico a cui è stata arbitrariamente prelevata quella somma... state all'occhio e insistete!

Avoid at all costs. I took out a premium subscription last year, it’s been a waste of time. They have also just taken £279 off me when I was expecting £69. I found an email from them from 7 days ago with no clue in the header about price increases (they send constant spam emails anyway). The email was pages of “benefits of a premium subscription” then at the bottom in tiny letters it said “we’re taking £279 from you”. Totally disreputable and not even worth subscribing to. Avoid at all costs.

Mi chiamo Manfro Nives ed ho avuto pressochè la stessa esperienza di chi si è trovata un prelievo da paypal su carta postepay Evolution. In data 23/3/25 ho rilevato un prelievo di ben 242,78 alle ore 11,19 per ACADEMIAEDU mai richiesto e di questo sito che non ricordo di aver mai frequentato. Inoltre ancora non ho ricevuto risposta ad una mail inviata nell'unico punto di accesso a contatto con loro che ho rintracciato circa 10 giorni fa. Se si potesse recensire con Meno 5 stelle, lo avrei fatto. Direi attenzione, sito truffa.!

FRAUDE!
J'ai suscrit un abonnement depuis quelques années. Cette année, quand j'ai voulu le renouveler j'ai été envoyée sur un compte qui n'est pas le mien. J'ai expliqué la situation et dis que je n'avais pas accès a mon vrai compte et que je souhaitais annuler l'abonnement. Ils m'ont répondu que c'était fait et le 4 avril je viens d'être prélevée, sans aucun préavis ni logique, d'un montant de 262,80 euros. Ils ont mes coordonnés bancaires et je n'ai même pas accès à mon compte pour gérer ça. Je l'avais signalé il y a des mois et ils n'ont rien fait. Je suis dans un piège et ce comportement est illégal. S'ils ne me remboursent pas au plus vite je ferai opposition sur ma carte et je porterai plainte.

Ne soyez pas hypocrites avec cette réponse automatique! Le 9 février vous m'aviez déjà répondu que ma suscription était bien annulée et que je ne serais pas débite à nouveau. Et sans me prévenir vous avez prélevé à nouveau 262,80 euros sur mon compte, qui ne correspondent à rien.

I signed up for an account with them in 2014 and then cancelled that same year. After I was mistakenly recharged by them several times. In 2019 I signed up with them again for a few minutes by mistake and then cancelled the service a few minutes after sign up, I received an email saying it was cancelled. Today I discovered in March 2025 I had been charged 202.80 GPB again without any notification. I asked my bank to look into it and they discovered they also charged me in March 2024 82.80 GBP and in March 2023 69.00 GBP, despite never corresponding with them again since the full cancellation in 2019 (but blocking Paypal payments to them in 2023 after the above). I received no notification that they were charging me in 2025, 2024, 2023 or that the service had been re-activated after the cancellation in 2019.

Updated: the reply provided by Academia. edu below does not resolve the issue. I also then received an email from support, stating the sum had already been refunded, which was not true, My subsequent emails have got nowhere and their responses are ever more ridiculous. The company should not be in operation and is a scam.

Like many others, I have had money taken from my account without any notification or explanation. A pattern emerges from the many Trustpilot reviews of Academia.edu hiking subscription fees and then just taking the money out of our accounts without any notification of the increase and the withdrawal. Academia.edu appears to be operating illegally, stealing our money, and therefore, it is right and proper to inform people of this corruption. Unfortunately, I don’t have the expertise, but if others do, please put out a global note on social media platforms that Academia.edu is a corrupt organisation.

As many of you have reported, academia.edu's charges are unethical and predatory. I emailed them threatening with legal action and they refunded the 389$ that they sneakily had charged to my account. If you email them for a refund, ask them where is it public their pricing (it is impossible to find).

This website have a untrusteable sistem of payments and they take of your credit card long-term subscription without asking the client's, is like a online scam, I'm still waiting for the refund of my money.

Ho appena aperto un ticket per chiedere un rimborso. Se ti propongono un mese di prova a 1 euro, non è assolutamente in chiaro il fatto che il mese dopo vi sarà un rinnovo automatico per un anno a più di 150€! Mancano totalmente chiarezza e trasparenza. Suggerisco a chi gestisce il tutto di comunicare con maggior chiarezza i termini di utilizzo e le tariffe più in chiaro, mandando inoltre un promemoria poco prima del rinnovo.
