Kevin at the willowbrook location gave us level 10 customer service in the fishing department! Glad to hear the details of my purchase and by far the best customer service I’ve received in all my years of shopping at Academy. My first time making a purchase for an expensive fishing rod! Love it!
Worst customer service I’ve seen in a while!
My 80 year old mother, who, by the way, is legally blind bought two dresses there on Saturday and didn’t see that one had a small stain on the collar. She tried to return it, and not only would they not take it back because of THEIR OWN stain, but treated her like some kind of cheat and absolutely humiliated her. Not the kind of treatment I’d expect from a place where I spend $5-10k a year between my own stuff and client gifts. I’ll be spending that elsewhere going forward.
If I could give a lower score
If I could give a lower score, I would. I wanted to purchase a handgun, but it took the sales rep more than 10 minutes to acknowledge me. Then I filled out all the paperwork since my license had a different home address. I was unable to buy a gun, and I was told I needed tax papers with the correct address with my full name on it. Fast forward: I come back with the correct documentation, and then I was told I filled out the paperwork incorrectly, which I know is not true. The store says I'm on a 30-day hold and can not purchase a gun until then. I asked if I could go somewhere else to buy a gun, and was told that would be considered fraud and I could be prosecuted and could face up to 15 years in jail. Fast forward 30 days, I get to the store, something, a salesperson (same person) did not acknowledge, then I was told I had the incorrect paperwork. I asked what other paperwork I could bring in to get a gun, and I was told that was the only paperwork I could bring in....so I just left. 3 hours later, I get a call from another sales assocaite and was told that I could get my gun and gave other paperwork I could bring in, I ask why was I told incorrect information and why was I penalized for 30 days, she then tells me that it is not governoment penalization, it was just for that store, I advised the sales rep. told me something different, and she apologized. By now, I'm not doing business with this store because I feel like I was racially profiled, so if you are thinking of shopping at this store, take your business elsewhere.

I went to the location and Mary Esther Florida. Went to the shoe department and a customer associate named George help me find the perfect pair of shoes. Without me even asking him to do so. I was in there 5 minutes and walked out with them.

The worst experience ever!!! I ordered a new balance shoes and I got an used dirty Adidas shoes. I tried to call them but it ends up waiting for 15 mins on hold. Also no one is replying on chat! If I can give them anything below one star. I will do

I placed an online order for ammo because there was no store near me and they had the ammo in stock and at a great price. The shipping fee was half of what the best online ammo retailers charge, and the Blazer 9mm 124gr FMJ was cheaper. The shipment was extremely fast. They estimated 7 days, I got it in 3. That is likely due to the warehouse location compared to me but it was still much faster than I expected. The order was correct and packed very well. I will certainly be placing more online orders with Academy Sports in the future.
I ordered an oem part
I ordered an oem part, they sent a crap plastic after market that usually sells 1/4 the price and has low reviews. The refused to cancel order. I needed to cancel the visa charge and refuse delivery.

Last time I will step foot in Academy. Tonight I walked in to the store with at least 6 employees talking and cleaning up. Not one welcomed me into the store. I stared at this one guy to say something and asked for help in the bike department. This kid takes off but I suppose his manager called them back and all started laughing. The store is a mess. The prices are so inflated all over the store. I walked out in disgust and bought snacks: Gum is almost $6…. Water $3.50…..warm energy drink $3.67…tiny trail mix 2.50. Not one good experience from this store.

I placed an online ammo order and then immediately realized I ordered the wrong caliber. Followed process to cancel within 30min and got response “can’t cancel already in queue for shipping”. And when it arrives they have a no return policy on ammo. Stay away from their online, often the only choice, purchase of ammo. Will never deal with again.
Not very customer oriented at all
Not very customer oriented at all. They are another company that likes to hide behind inadequate technology and then provide little other options. I'm trying to order an ankle brace tonight for my 98 year old Mom's ankle and healing, but they refuse to put any sizing information about the product on their website, and no one to help at 9:15pm. Then, the chat blocks you for using words that complain about the service, and the ridiculous looping because AI cannot understand for much at all, very limited vocabulary, Alexa 1 like. I got an automated block for using this word - Pathetic. Very pathetic company. They must be woke, and they are going to go broke. I'm not shopping there again!
Academy where online orders go to die
A place an order online for in-store pick up when I place the order I was given a date that the order would be available for pick up. The date arrived that the item was supposed to be in store and no one reached out finally at the end of the day. I reached out to both the store and to customer service only to find out that they had no idea where my item was nor could they tell me when it would arrive. I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating it is to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on an item that they cannot deliver nor can they tell you when it’s going to show up it has been a really frustrating experience all around and I will not be shopping at academy ever again

The previous reviews speak for themselves. I applied for a credit card to get a 15$ off coupon. Didnt realize it has to he used same day. CS at our two local stores is horrendous. CS by phone is even worse..... Academy will fall off the map in the next few years.

The wait for checking out in Portland TX is ridiculous on the amount of time. They only have one or two checkers and the line is slow.

rude employee
went to store in Johnson city Tn. like I have done for years and have bought loads of merchandise including guns and ammo, was at the gun counter when the woman at the counter asked if there was anything she could get me, I told her no I was just browsing, after a few seconds and with other customers she says sarcasticly that I need to change my hat from Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America, I really wanted to go off on her but not wanting to cause a scene just said not hardly and NEVER, I will never set foot in another academy store the rest of my life and as I stated before I have spent a lot of money over the years all because of a maga employee who couldn't keep her mouth shut
Bad management
I went in during the morning when there were not too many other customers. I got some items and went to the checkout. There was only one checker available, and he was busy with some customers who had some sort of problem paying which was taking some time. During my wait, I counted 7 other employees at the front near the registers, some doing work, some just standing around and chatting. Several of them made eye contact with me as I waited. None of them had any concern that I was waiting for a period of time. Nobody called for help at the registers, nobody came over and opened up a register, nothing. After more than 5 minutes I got to the register and asked for the manager to be called up. Once this went up over the loudspeaker most of the employees up front managed to move to somewhere else.
When the manager “A” arrived, I told him “I waited more than 5 minutes and during that time I counted 7 employees standing around doing nothing.” “Just a suggestion that they be cross trained to support at the registers.” I noticed he looked away when I was talking and didn’t want to hear anything. He replied “See her right there, she’s working. All of the employees have something to do and are working.” I just wanted to give some feedback, have it heard and leave. Beyond that I didn’t really care too much. But then he proceeds to say, “See you next time” to which I replied, “No you won’t.”
A customer-facing manager should be able to take feedback whether he likes to hear it or not. He should listen and be friendly with customers. He should consider feedback that comes directly from his customers as information that could be used for possible improvements. He should never tell a customer “See you next time” meaning “this conversation is over”.
