Antoine Chéron / ACBM Avocats operates a practice where initial written assessments conflict completely with subsequent execution. At the outset, this firm guaranteed in writing that my legal position was "clear" and that I was "fully within my rights" to claim damages. Relying entirely on this explicit assurance, I paid thousands of euros in upfront retainer fees. After the payment, two demand letters, and a standard defense from the opposing party, the firm's evaluation completely reversed. The case was suddenly presented as highly uncertain and complex, raising significant risks that were completely unmentioned in the initial written advice.
A turnaround this dramatic makes the initial advice extremely difficult to take seriously. Either significant and fundamental risks were completely missed from the outset, or I was given confidence in my position that the underlying legal analysis did not justify.
For context regarding any potential response from the firm: while the Paris Bar Association (Bâtonnier) initially dismissed my fee dispute, that decision has been formally appealed. The matter is currently active and ongoing before the Paris Court of Appeal.
The firm extracted significant upfront funds under a guarantee of certainty, only to discard that analysis once the money was paid. Demand a comprehensive, binding risk assessment before transferring any funds to this firm if for whatever reason you still decide to use their services.
