I bought a vintage Leica lens over the phone after reading the description online describing it as being in very good condition. However the lens wasn’t as described. The optics were good but the focusing helicoid was dry as a bone. It had play and it squealed when turned fast. Which being dry was hard not to do. But I had a project to get on with so despite their offering me a refund or repair I didn’t have the time to spare. I appreciated the offer to resolve the issue but really cheesed off that they didn’t inspect and describe it properly in the first place. And I appreciated them accepting a lower offer than the advertised price. If I had known the issue though I wouldn’t have bothered or would have negotiated a price that accounted for a prompt CLA. Lenses are hard to show clearly in photos and some aspects are completely reliant on the words. Hence I’m inclined to use this platform to push for a basic level of accuracy and clarity especially with valuable used items.
