Misleading financing information, wasted trip to Prague and zero responsibility
I had a really disappointing experience with Auto ESA in Prague.
I wanted to buy a vehicle through my Czech company, but I live in Austria. Before travelling to Prague, I specifically asked their employees several times whether I could get financing despite not being a Czech resident. I made my situation very clear from the beginning.
Every time, I was told that it wouldn’t be a problem. I even sent them my documents in advance, including my passport and driving licence.
Their own website also clearly states that foreigners can arrange financing if their business has its headquarters in the Czech Republic.
So I trusted them, bought train tickets, booked a hotel, arranged a professional vehicle inspection and travelled from Vienna to Prague.
And guess what happened? After I arrived, they suddenly told me that financing wasn’t possible because I don’t have a Czech birth identification number or Czech residence.
Basically, “Sorry, we made a mistake.”
I spent €247 on train tickets, accommodation, taxis and the vehicle inspection. Not to mention the time I lost travelling instead of working.
I contacted Auto ESA and asked them to reimburse just those €247. I wasn’t asking for anything extra, no compensation for my time or inconvenience. Just my actual expenses.
Their representative acknowledged in writing that the information I had received was incorrect and that the financing conditions should have been clarified before my trip.
But after discussing it with management, they still refused to reimburse even €1.
And here’s another thing that really bothers me.
As of October 30, 2026, their English-language website STILL contains the same misleading information!
I’m attaching a screenshot directly from their website. It explicitly says that financing is available to foreigners “whose business has its headquarters in the Czech Republic.”
They have already been informed about this problem. They know that this wording led me to travel to Prague unnecessarily. They have even acknowledged that the conditions were not properly explained to me.
Yet the information is still there.
How many other people might read this, trust it, and waste their time and money travelling to Auto ESA?
What disappoints me most isn’t that they couldn’t arrange financing. I understand that financial institutions have their own requirements. The problem is that I asked about those exact requirements multiple times before travelling, and they repeatedly reassured me that everything was fine.
If they had simply explained the actual requirements from the beginning, I would never have made the trip.
For a company of this size, I find this attitude towards customers really disappointing.
I would strongly recommend being extremely careful with the information provided by Auto ESA, even when it comes directly from their employees and official website.
Unfortunately, in my case, even repeated written confirmations weren’t enough.
