NEGATIVE STARS!!

NEGATIVE STARS!!! My parents signed paperwork with a Bankers Life agent (Grant Hoyt) to change my father’s Medicare Supplement from Plan G to Plan N. We were subsequently told the coverage was active, but later learned the change was never completed. The agent NEVER responded to our written complaint. Because my father has significant health issues, this is far more than a minor administrative error. We have now filed a formal complaint with Michigan DIFS and are seeking a corporate compliance investigation! DO NOT USE!!

I would like to start by saying I have…

I would like to start by saying I have 4 policies, as does my husband. They changed the website, so it told me I didn't exist. That call took 4 tries to get a human, and one who spoke English. Then I was transferred back to a probably nice woman; who knows, I could not understand a single word she said. I asked if she could repeat it a 2nd time, and she hung up. I called again. No one speaks English. I understand an accent, but this was not understandable. No, you ask why not call your sales rep? Oh, because she doesn't answer texts, emails, or calls. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company. It's been a nightmare for many more reasons, too long to list here. Run - go to another company! I sure wish we had.

They said i filled out a loan. I didn't. Lies

They said i filled out a loan application for a business loan when i for sure never did. That is a lie, so i told them i would hang up (I was Polite it's not the person answering the phones fault), and leave a 1 star review. We need to hold companies accountable!

They sold me the wrong insurance…

They sold me the wrong insurance policy, I could’ve got a lot more money for a different rate. This is from a well experienced insurance agent that did not listen to my needs. It was only about selling a policy.

Account Cancellation Challenges

Bankers Life seems to be old school and requires many things to be done by snail mail. I had a long-term care account, and submitted a cancellation by certified mail. Bankers verified receipt of the letter. They said they would confirm the cancellation by mail (2 months later that has not happened). They said they would discontinue premium withdrawals from my bank account (those continue). I am now working with my bank to block future premium withdrawals. Customer Service staff are great, but the company is poor on follow through.

Medicare, Part A & B and the offer to manage retirement accounts

I am at that age where I get to sign up for Medicare. A flood of information, email and phone calls. So when I got a call (unfortunately I answered) I had a few questions. Can you answer my questions about Medicare and Social Security, etc. the response was yes, ( 1st meeting scheduled) a few questions, walk me through, they offer supplemental coverage, part B benefits. It did not really answer all my questions. (Why my upcoming initial enrollment with the new benefit plan only is trying to put me on Medicare, no explanation) They want me to wait and talk with their manager couple weeks later.(I am assuming since we are talking about Social Security and Medicare and all options, their manager can explain in greater detail than the 1st contact representative)

I am also starting a new job enrollment documentation does not provide any detail on why Medicare, is an option. The company did not ask or explain to me, it was assumed I would to accept/select Part A: (I plan to delay until 67) Medicare and not want to use the company's policy (communications always provide clarity in making any decision, you may not like the communications but you have the information)

My confusion, why does my new employer want me to sign up using Part A? (researching/reading a lot of information is saves the company a lot of money.) basic Part B monthly will cost you $202.00 out-of-pocket without any additional add-ons, the supplements increase the cost.

Basically, I was ignored until the meeting.
The meeting, The sales pitch to have my retirement funds managed 401(k),
If I need help with Medicare questions, we can (Bankers Life) have somebody from our agency help you with the benefits side. Me??I thought that is why you were here.

Since this whole scenario became more of a redirect to have my retirement funds managed, and not on my 1st concern, working my way through all the Medicare/Social Security insanity.

I researched bankers life customer comments on their interactions with the company. Some reviews were five-star and in the ones between the financial manager and the customer were whole lot lower.

Initially, this meeting was about Social Security, Medicare, etc. I ask the rep sitting in front of me, we can have somebody reach out to you about answering those questions.
This is why I contacted you SSA/Medicare and I agreed to have this meeting.
It is not a scam, but it is deceitful, a bait and switch for you to listen to their sales pitch about managed accounts.
How they can protect you from any downside in the market.
I declined a managed account, my initial concerns were not addressed first, once the door was open the sales pitch became the priority not my initial questions, my concerns about Medicare and other options.

This sets the precedent, and makes the company, company representatives appear untrustworthy. Not looking out for the customers interest.

During this time, I did not get my questions about the company policy answered, signing up for part B Medicare, company provided health insurance. I was dropped from the initial enrollment

The one star is not a review of financial health.
It is this individuals experience and my opinion of how you can pressured into making a unhealthy decisions about your financial future at a time that you may be overwhelmed with email, phone calls, text because you have reached that lovely number 65, and you just want the confusion to go away because there are unbelievable number of choices from a variety of organizations, businesses, and other third-party groups that have your best interest heart, not really. Do your research, sign up for Medicare parts A and B. They can be delayed if you are still working.

NO TO THIS COMPANY

Signed up for medigap plan as of January. First claims in April, and every one of them is being rejected. Customer service keeps telling me different things about why. they asked me to fax information which I did, and its not helped a bit. Agent, Harry Zhang, is completely unresponsive and useless.

Borderline Harassment

My mother has been bombarded with letters and phonecalls from this company. We live in a day and age where this is unfortunately common for our elders, unfortunately.

However, yesterday I overheard a new low from a gentleman that made me quite upset. Yesterday evening, a man claiming to be with this group had come to our home and was offering to help my mom sign up for Medicare. Initially I thought he may have been from a church or the government. At first I thought this was a sweet gesture, but my mom was busy and declined. However, the man would not take "no" for an answer. I listened as my mom became increasingly more uncomfortable. She kept telling him that she wasn't interested, but he insisted on this. When she told him she was on the phone, he then said he would come back later. Again, I was listening from another room, but I could hear how genuinely uncomfortable this made her. Especially when the man began reciting the information he already had on her, including her phone number and email address. It was at this point I intervened and called out to her that I needed help with something. Seeing the out in the conversation, she took it. She seemed really unsettled by the whole experience, and even moreso that borderline forced her to verify her phone number with and implied his return next week.

I then did some research into this company, notably here, and wanted to share my experience. Defend your elders and loved ones from these people.

Review from former employee

I used to work here for a few months and I left after they asked me to sell myself insurance. Looking back at things the company also definitely has MLM vibes and I genuinely regret working for them.

Vulnerable adult

Andrea Paine came to visit a facility I manage, on this visit she parked off site where staff could not see her arrival or departure. She did not sign the visitor's log or wait for staff to take her to the see the vulnerable adult. Staff were updated by another person who resides in the home that a visitor was in the closed bedroom with vulnerable adult. I and another staff member went into the closed bedroom to find out what was going on. Andrea stated she knew said person and has visited before. I asked Andrea if she had contacted the POA due to the vulnerable adult unable to make decisions on her own? She stated her and the POA will meet the first of the year and they keep missing each other, so I stated " You haven't made contact for permission?" she said she was reminded today was the last day to bring paperwork to the vulnerable adult. I asked my Co-worker to contact POA about what was going on, I asked Andrea for her card which she DID NOT have and said she could run back to work and get it. It was a very odd situation and the vulnerable adult was laying in bed and Andrea was in a chair across the room and they both talked in the dark.

Andrea has been to this location before to see the same person and the POA let her know at that time neither was interested in these services and the banking information given was not to be used as vulnerable adult can't make financial decisions. The phone number given to me by andrea isn't the same number listed on the Bankers Life website either.

My Father in law has paid into Bankers…

My Father in law has paid into Bankers Life since 2009. Long term care Claim was submitted in May 2024, every time we call and follow up we are told “something else” is needed. We follow up and resubmit the same documentation to get told another 21 days for review. Nothing but complete run around, while still taking out $200/month. Unbelievable!! Taking advantage of the elderly. One star isn’t good enough for you.

Avoid Bankers Life Long Term Care

I am highly disappointed with Bankers Life's lack of professionalism and efficiency in reimbursing my mother for her long-term care. Despite my mother paying into her policy for over 15 years, we have consistently struggled to receive timely reimbursements. I want anyone considering Bankers Life to proceed cautiously.

Bankers Life under Washington National…

Bankers Life under Washington National Insurance has one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever seen in a business. The use an offshore call center that doesn't care about customer service. They took money unnecessarily from a bank account and are resistant in returning it timely.

IRA nightmares

I was talked into getting an IRA through them years ago. It has been very difficult getting that rolled over into employer's 401k account so that i could combine my assets. Between "lost" mail, demands that i produce some obsolete form from my employer's 401k's, having to wait on the customer service line for a supervisor to "agree to accept" my call (they never did!!)..... and now these people are telling me that they will not release my funds because my signatures do not match!!! I finally had it and reported them to SEC for their review. I am utterly disgusted and will never deal with them after I finally get my funds rolled over and out of their hands.

They are the worst - don't get long term care

They are the worst. Impossible to get a hold of anyone on the phone. Their policies are really lame, and have tons of fine print that basically excludes many things you would expect. Long Term care is a complete rip-off. Don't do business with this company. My father got screwed by them.

5 Stars to Scott Hopper at the San Luis Obispo

Scott Hopper at the San Luis Obispo office guided me through the thickets and brambles of reapplicaton for supplementary medical and PDP insurance. He went out of his way to set up conference calls with Medicare when insurer balked. It was a long struggle that ended satisfactorily thanks to Scott's persistence and mastery of rules and regs. I can't credit him enough for the assistance he gave me. I found his crispness and efficiency and reassuring manner refreshing.
