BHO Chimney Sweep is one of those companies that doesn't truly exist as all of their employees are private contractors. Their advertising tactics are sneaky. They said they charged $79 for a dryer vent cleaning. I have a difficult to access dryer vent so this sounded good. The man who showed up claimed there were blockages 15 inches into the pipe and wanted $299 for the cleaning. After telling him no he said the $79 charge only covers 10 minutes of cleaning. Contradictory the company representative stated the $79 was just the inspection fee. Nowhere do they state that. The man said didn't do anything, demanded payment and left. I ended up purchasing a scope and a long drill operated cleaning brush and did it all myself with no issues. Do not use this company.

Greendale, IN location. Service was fast and they did a great job. Techs name: Roi with a younger assistant. Throughly inspected our 50 year old chimney & sealed our water issue.

So they were very prompt at first, the technician was respectful. The problem was not resolved although and I could not get call back, they ignored me. You can only talk to a scheduler. After multiple calls to the over the course of a week or so, someone finally called and she said she would have the supervisor call. He sent a text stating he would call in an hour. He did not. I sent him a reminder text to call me and he finally did. Said there would me further charges to complete the work, even though the original technician said everything would be covered under the $1,000 I paid! Supposedly the technician or his supervisor is supposed to call, but it has been another 4 days without a word. This company is a complete rip off….DO NOT USE DHO Chimney!!!!

I hired BHO Chimney in Briar Cliff to completely replace my fire place components. I thought it would be easy but we ran into trouble. Ant the end of the day the biggest issue was they refused to stand behind their work. This is not tough stuff. I must recommend you avoid them totally.

What Happened? Let me share the 6 mistakes/issues we had
1) They came in to replace my fireplace assembly (gas valve, pilot light, remote, etc). They brought in a low cost "cheep" unit and charged a premium price. So I expected a quality unit. The problems I had are

1) the pilot light was 2 inches high, shining light into the room when the fire valve is in the off position. I wanted the normal 1/2 inch pilot flame so it was bright when in the off position (my solution: turn it down but they said that would not work, hmm my old one did),

2) they placed the pilot flame so far from the gas emission pipe) that it took 30 seconds of "gas on" to light the fire, filling the space with gas, when the gas finally lit it had filled the entire fireplace cavity so flames jumped out of the fire place and extended 3 feet into the living room, yes you had to turn on the gas and then back up or get your hair burned (their solution -- move back or get burned, my solution: move it closer to the gas pipe with the holes in it!!).

3) they left out the screws that attach the gas pipe to the log rack so the assembly slide back as you pushed the pilot one (my solution, add the screws).

4) There was a remote but every time you wanted to turn up the "flame up" after using the remote for flame off you had to manually turn the gas on and face the 3 ft flame again, every time, (solution: the remote should handle turning the flame up from the off position/my old one did, what's the remote for it it does not work - note pilot was on)

5) when you pressed the remote "flame up" function on the remote the assembly made a horrid grinding noise and did nothing to increase the flame so you had to turn the gas up manually, the remote up did not work (my solution: replace the new valve assembly, it's faulty. Their solution: relight it manually, What's the pilot for if I can't use the remote to turn the flame up from off (note: the pilot was on) My solution: replace the unit, it's faulty.

6) Last problem: They promised to fix it by upgrading me to a "better" unit for an additional $250, They said I had to pay for the faulty one because the box was opened so I could not return it. I said okay (gave up) and we scheduled a time for the 2nd installation. Their solution : They never showed and when I called and asked where they were the reply was "I must ask my manager" They never called me back. My solution: find a new competent vender.
So my recommendation, never hire them for anything

BHO Chimney is a nightmare. I live in Southern Maryland. The technician came out and said it was the pilot light. Within 10 minutes of him leaving I called to let him know the pilot light went out.
He told me to take a picture of the model number and send it to him. I asked him how does he know what is wrong if he isn't coming back. He said that he noticed when he was here. I was thinking to myself then why in the heck didn't you say that when you were here??? I never heard anything from him and when I called the company to file a complaint they kept avoiding me saying they would return my calls. Finally I gave up and called my bank to dispute the charge. I am not paying for a service charge when you didn't do anything. Stay away!!!! There are other companies to do business with because they are horrible and a rip off. I should have done my research instead of reading the reviews on the website.

This business is a scam- specifically the Chattanooga location. Contacted this company for an inspection to see is our chimney was clear. The person showed up 2 hours early. He couldn’t see through the fireplace, so he said he would have to go on the roof. Then looked at the roof and said it was too icy. Said he would have to reschedule (not come back at the scheduled time when the frost would have been gone). Said they would call to reschedule. Paid the inspection fee though no inspection was completed. They never called. When my husband called them multiple times they didn’t answer. I called from a different number and they answered, apologized, didn’t reschedule, said they would call back - never heard from them again. Now they don’t answer when I call. This is a scam company. Avoid at all costs.

Only giving one star because I can't give a zero. Booked with BHO, they told me it would be $2,000 to do inside and outside of the chimney, which I wasn't going to pay. They charged me a fee to come out for inspection and the payment went to Kalsi Procare. When I spoke to the company I asked for a refund because it's against the law to have a second party perform a service without disclosing it to the client first. I didn't get anywhere so I will need to contact my bank, FTC and BBB.

On Tuesday 1/20/2026 I called BHO at 12:49pm and booked an appointment for 1/22/2026 between 4pm-6pm EST. This was to have my fireplace in our new home inspected before the impending winter storm to ensure it's safety as a second source of heat in a power outage which is likely.

On 1/21/2026 at 9:04pm I received a text message from the company alerting they were fully booked for the date I selected and rescheduled my appointment for Tuesday 1/27/2026. That appointment would occur after the storm. I responded through text requesting they assist us in finding another appointment before the impending storm and didn't receive response.

I just called them, and the first representative told me that there was nothing they could do about the reschedule. When I asked to speak to a supervisor he said he would transfer me, but the call was hung up. I called them back and spoke with another representative who said she couldn't transfer me to a supervisor but one could call me back but there would be nothing they could do either. Basically it is what it is, they were overbook and the technician rescheduled.

What does this mean about a company, knowing that this change last minute has left me no way to make another appointment in time to help ensure my families safety? The nonchalance of these representatives was astounding and I don't think they understand the word empathy let alone have the capacity to feel it. The worst part is that I work in the building/development industry and will relay this experience to our corporation. Thankfully this lesson was learned before we tried to use them as a sub to complete work for us. I can assure you that wont happen under my watch in the future.

A technician arrived to service the pilot light in my fireplace. After disassembling the unit, he asked to see where the gas line entered the house. I took him outside and suggested he check the propane tank, as it had just been filled and might have been turned off. He dismissed the suggestion, insisting it had no relevance to the pilot light. He then looked at my irrigation lines—mistaking them for the gas line—and stated that everything appeared fine.

Once back inside, he informed me that the entire pilot light assembly needed to be replaced because the lines were “corroded, rusted, and crumbling.” He quoted a total cost of $1,300, plus an additional $400 for a remote control that I neither have nor want. He was extremely insistent about the remote and pressed me for a 30% deposit for materials before leaving. I paid only the $69 service fee plus tax.

I subsequently had another company inspect the fireplace. They confirmed there was no corrosion, rust, or deterioration of any kind. The issue was simply that the gas tank had been turned off. The new technician showed me how to turn it on and off, and once the gas was turned on, the pilot light functioned properly.

Additionally, the technician from BHO Chimney Sweep arrived with another individual who sat in my living room scrolling on his phone while people waited for them in their vehicle. The entire experience was unprofessional and uncomfortable.

I contacted BHO to request a refund, as their technician provided false information and, in my opinion, significantly misquoted me for unnecessary work. I would not recommend this company under any circumstances.

I only gave one star because zero isn't an option. Bait and switch scammers. Came up on a local Google search but we found out later they are not even located in our area! They told us chimney was completely clogged and unsafe to run AT all. And that the cost to clean it would be over 4,000. Very pushy, insisting we do the cleaning immediately. We called after we retained them and told them we were going with someone else instead and not to cash the retainer check. They said OK then tried to cash it anyway.
We had a reputable local company come in after. They told us that chimney is slightly dirty but safe to run. And they will charge us less than two hundred to clean it.

Over the phone when making the appointment, I was given a $69 quote for the service call. I was told that prior to the service repair I would be told the price of the repair before the repair was done. However, he repaired it (which was simply lighting the pilot). He then charge me almost 4 times the price without letting me know ahead of time. He was present only about 10 minutes. I don't suggest you use this company, but if you do make sure they don’t overcharge you

I scheduled a chimney cleaning and was given a 3 hour window. The tech called and said he would be an hour later than that. The work performed was mediocre, at best and was nothing more than manually pushing a brush up and down the chimney liner for about 15 minutes, then lightly brushing the firebox. The flue area does not appear to have been touched. He then went on the roof and proceeded to try to sell me an unnecessary addition for $950. The price quoted when he arrived was $449 but, when he was finished, he said that if I pay with a debit card, they add an additional 4%. These guys are not honest. Find someone else if you need this service. I wholeheartedly would not recommend them.

Tom came with a kind approach, then very quickly showed that he was trying to scam us. He came for an inspection on 12/8/25, went on the roof and showed me some poor chimney work, then took it apart and gave me a crazy high price afterwards trying to scam me into doing work immediately and pay him. He was asking for over $3000, then cut the price in half when I flat out said no, then when I still refused he tried to say I owed him $200 to dismantle and remove the bricks from the chimney (what he did without giving me a quote or ask for permission). True scam of a company trying to take advantage of people

The service guy was friendly enough but he tried to sell us a metal liner for almost $5000.00 Fortunately we were able to our son on the phone who is a chimney technician in Massachusetts. When the BHO guy told our son we needed a liner, our son was able to tell him we have one and when service guy said we do not our son quoted the type of liner we have. Service guy looked again and said “oh my bad” - yup there was a liner. Don’t trust this company at all. We were lucky to have our own expert available via a phone call.

This place is a complete scam. Dude came out and barely looked at any of my air duct then said I had to pay 100 to have him come back out the next day. He never showed the following day now I get the run around. Sure I won't get my money back but they definitely won't get anymore of mine. Stay away from these people.

Unprofessional. Wanted me to help him tried to upsell so many times. It was a horrible experience. And I know he didn't do the job correctly. He didn't bring the right tools to even move the dryer and he told me that normally the clients help

Very poor service. The only thing they did was run a brush up the flue and swept out the fire box. They did not clean the soot out of the fire box and left a mess on the floor. I hade to give them a trash bag and broom also. $300 mistake!!! STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAMMERS!!!!!

I booked a service on their website, expecting a straightforward repair for my fireplace that wouldn’t ignite. However, the job was handed off to another company, and the technician who showed up barely did anything—he just took a quick look and said I had to pay $399 for a cleaning before they could do any diagnostics.
Even worse, the diagnostic fee would be charged separately after the cleaning.
I originally requested a repair, but they insisted on charging a high cleaning fee first, with no transparency at all. In the end, I had no choice but to pay the $71 service call fee and ask them to leave. It was absolutely not worth it.
This whole experience left me feeling very disappointed and distrustful. I will not be using their services again.

I had an appointment between 8-11. Tech called at 10:45 and said they would be between 2-4. At 10 till 4 I got a call. The person on the phone said they had tried to call me all day..which is crap. Wanted to reschedule. I said never mind, I'll find another company! Couldn't even get them to show!!
