Device deleted all my notes

Updated the firmware on my BOOX Air Note3 and the device deleted all my Notes, two years of work. They were backed up on my account, which was linked to my old phone number which I no longer have access to. Contacted BOOX and they said bad luck there's nothing we can do.

Kundenservice? Qualität? Haben wir ausgesourced...

Bewertung bezieht sich auf die boox go 7 gen 2 und color.
NEGATIV :
GO 7 gen 2 : bei mir war das E-ink Display ca 1,2mm verschoben so das ein heller Streifen links und oben vorhanden war, beim Dunkelmodus, schwarzen(naja Anthrazit) Seiten und vor allem nachts sehr störend.

Aussage boox - "da liegt kein Mangel vor, alles im Rahmen unserer Anforderungen"

Kontrast trotz angeblich carta 1300 auf carta 1200 und darunter.
POSITIV :Tagsüber top ablesbar.
NEGATIV :Nachts mangels Kontrast für mich nicht nutzbar.
Vor allem Probleme bei der Kobo /Rakuten APP (Aufhängen, Bild weg, ganz oder teilweise.

Ähnliches bei dem color, Kontrast schlecht, ähnlich dem "White", aber tagsüber schlecht ablesbar.
POSITIV :Hier war das Display einwandfrei und auch die kobo App machte keine Probleme.
NEGATIV : Farben schwach aber nutzbar.
POSITIV: scrollen, vor allem bei Farbe, und Bildern, comics, sehr schnell und "flüssig".
OFFTOPIC : Wie es nicht geht zeigt KINDLE (dort zwar bessere Farben und klarer, aber ein geflacker, Seitenwechsel gut, scrollen UNMÖGLICH, ähnlich dunkles Display, aber viel kontrastreicher, tagsüber naja, abends sehr gut mit Licht ).

Schlechteste Produktqualität. Schlechtester Kundenservice. Ich habe ein BOOX Note Air4 C × 1 für 560 € gekauft, und es ging innerhalb von weniger als einem Jahr kaputt. Als ich die Garantie in Anspruch nehmen wollte, sagten sie, das E-Ink-Display sei durch äußere Einwirkung beschädigt worden und falle daher nicht unter die Garantie. Es gibt keinerlei Anzeichen für äußere Beschädigungen, aber sie behaupteten, dass das gerissene Display nach dem Auseinanderbauen sichtbar sei. Ich habe das Gerät sorgfältig benutzt. Wenn eine derart vorsichtige Nutzung bereits zu äußeren Schäden führt, dann ist es ein sehr minderwertiges und empfindliches Produkt, das 560 € nicht wert ist. Ich werde mich dieser Firma nie wieder nähern.

Why so many negative reviews

I don't understand all the negative reviews. My device started malfunctioning few weeks after I received it. It was stuck in a bootloop and doing factory reset didn't help. I contacted the customer support and they told me to send it to their service center in Poland. The device's mainboard was replaced and since then it works again.

Leider ein sehr

Leider ein sehr, sehr schlechtes Gerät. Lag, langsames Arbeiten, Synchronisierungsschwierigkeiten. Das Gerät ist eine einzige Entäuschung. Ich "arbeite" seit einem Jahr damit und war keinen Tag zufrieden. Jetzt reicht es. Ich hole mir ein ganz normales Tablet.

Service client Rakuten inexistant ! Juste pour dire que vous n'avez pas de commande que votre compte n'existe pas alors que si, depuis plusieurs années. Ils envoient suite à mon avis sur Trustpilot ils envoient un formulaire qu'il faut compléter mais jai oublie d'y mentionner le numéro de commande et je ne me souvenais pas avoir changé de email entre la création de mon compte et aujourd'hui, donc jai eu une reponse disant que je n'étais pas cliente sinon compléter mon numéro de réf dans le formulaire. Hors impossible de compléter, corriger ! Merci voilà donc sur Trustpilot pour certifier que je suis un vrai acheteur !

Je voulais acheter boox note air 4c site marchant directement mais aucun site marchant en france. Les renseignements disant que c'était adapté pour les personnes malvoyantes étaient erronées.
Malheureusement la premiere chose que fait rakuten quand on reçois un colis cest qu'on doit confirmer et évaluer dans la foulée mais si on évalué et bien on ne peut plus retourner l'article ou faire de réclamation et le vendeur ne répond pas, jamais !
Tout est fait pour qu'on ne puisse pas retourner.
Perdu 500euros et toujours pas d'outils pour lire et noter numériquement !
C'est sans doute rien de valeur pour rakutenbou le fabricant mais pour moi c'est énorme !

Shady company

6 weeks out of warranty and the e ink fails. Google it and find other people report the same issue. Boox support fails to recognise this issues. Despite photo evidence of screen itself in perfect condition, they conclude it’s always an external force and charge $310 for a replacement screen plus $40 for shipping. They’re a shady company.

Want me to pay for their production fault while under warranty

The Service is really bad. I bought a note max on their EURO official website 2 months ago and the pen cracked without any impact and they refuse to give me a replacement because "There's no plan to restock the pen". And want me to pay extra to get some other random pen.
They just ghosted me totally saying I don't want to pay because it's under warranty.

I purchased a Boox Color 7 Gen 2

I purchased a Boox Color 7 Gen 2. The device is continously rebooting itself with boot loops and stuck in booting up too.

I should be happy if the device works for more than 10 minutes straight. I asked for a full refund and return process.

They have asked me to send in feedback through their system. I did, and I still want my money back and this broken device sent back. I have sent 7 e-mails up until now and still they haven't moved a single bit. What a shitty company, with even shittier products.

They have terrible after-sales support

They have terrible after-sales support: promised updates don’t arrive, and long-standing bugs don’t get fixed.

Putting Android on an e-reader sounds flexible, but in practice it’s been a mess. On my older Onyx device, basic web browsing is essentially broken because of an expired root certificate, and there’s no supported way to update it. As a result, I can’t reliably open websites, and Google services (including signing into a Google account and using the Play Store) also don’t work.

Overall, the hardware concept is undermined by weak software maintenance.

Boox Note Air5 C - Read this before you buy

I bought a Boox Note Air5 C for university but found the colour e-ink technology deeply disappointing. I wanted a colour display for viewing diagrams etc but the resolution is so low it's very pixelated. I've learned that this is the current state of colour e-ink technology - it's just nowhere near as good as monochrome.

Additionally, the Note's screen is so dark that it requires constant frontlighting, which drains the battery extremely fast. When reading outside and having the frontlight turned up 100%, the battery reduced 25% in 1 hour. Apparently this is a problem with all Kaleido displays, so be prepared to carry a charger with you.

Another problem is that the magnetic case that comes with the Note causes the stylus to malfunction - you have to remove the case to use the pen properly. When I asked Boox Customer Support about this, they explained it is a "physical phenomenon" whereby any magnets will interfere with the e-ink display causing it to reject the stylus. Hmm. And yet they send the device with a magnetic case...

Before buying this product, watch the YouTube video called "BOOX Note Air 5C: The 5 Problems They WON'T Tell You About". I wish I had seen this before buying.

WARNING ABOUT RETURNS: I attempted to return the device but it would have cost me approximately 40% of the purchase price to return it due to Boox's return policy (customer pays original delivery fees, receipt charges, and international return shipping costs) - even though the device was in original condition and with original packaging. When I asked Boox to reconsider some of these charges, they refused any flexibility. Given that you can't try the device anywhere before buying it, I find this policy very rude. (Compare this to Remarkable, who offer 50-day returns with free return shipping...)

In summary, don't buy this device unless you've thoroughly researched its limitations and you're 100% sure it's the device you want.

Boox Air 4C - Ganz schlechter Workflow

Für den Preis fast schon inakzeptabel. Das Ding ist arschlangsam und damit meine ich nicht das Display sondern das System an sich. Wenn das Bild nicht hinterher kommt ist das bei einem E-Ink Display kein Problem, aber ich erwarte, dass ich dann "blind" weiter arbeiten kann und das Display mit etwas Verzug nachzieht, aber gefühlt ist immer erst die nächste Aktion möglich, wenn das Display aktualisiert wurde und die vorherige Aktion beendet/ausgeführt wurde. Bsp: Mehrfaches Ausführen des "zurück" Buttons beim erstellen einer Notiz geht nicht. Stattdessen wird jeder Strich einzeln entfernt das Display aktualisiert und nach einem kurzen weiteren Delay kann man den nächsten Schritt rükgängig machen. Das dauert 1-2 Sekunden pro Vorgang und ist eine absolute Qual.
PDF Dateien aus den Notizen zu erstellen ist eine Katastrophe. EINE Seite Handnotiz zu exportieren führt zu einer PDF Datei in der größe von einem 500 seitigen Buch (Mehrere GB!!!). Die Software ist an der Stelle aller unterste Schublade.
Man kann das Umblättern in der Notizapp nicht ausschalten, sodass man beim Schreiben regelmäßig umblättert, wenn man den Handballen ungünstig bewegt. Das ist so nervig und dauert ewig, weil umblättern, wie alles an dem Ding, eeeewig dauert. Da hilft es natürlich auch nicht, dass die Dateien in absoluter Übergröße abgespeichert werden.
Der gesamte Workflow, den ich mir erhofft hatte gibt es bei dem Gerät nicht. Schnell mal aus einer PDF-Datei eine Stelle ausschneiden und in die Notziapp laden? Fehlanzeige! Mit etwas Fummelei kann man sich eine Option zurecht legen, wie man schnell auf eine selektive Screenshot Funktion zugreifen kann (Das ist aber auch schon super umständlich und man muss ne Weile rumprobieren, ansonsten gibt es nämlich nur die Option immer gleich den gesamten Bildschirm zu kopieren), aber selbst dann muss der Screenshot erst gespeichert werden und dann als "externe Datei" in die Notiz geladen werden. Dann kann man in den Bilderordner gehen und den Screenshot wieder löschen. Einfach was in die Zwischenablage speichern geht nicht!
Ich könnte jetzt noch ewig weiter reden, von der Markierungsfunktion, die manchmal den markierten Bereich einfach löscht, wonach man dann erstmal die Datei schlißen und wieder öffnen muss und mit etwas Glück alles wieder/noch da ist... , von der sehr niedrigen Zoom-Grenze (weiter als 50% kommt man nicht raus, was ätzend ist), von den langen Ladezeiten, von den umständlichen Ordnerstrukturen, von ewigen Ladezeiten, blablabla...

Fazit: Besser als kein Tablett und als E-Reader kann man es wohl gebrauchen, man muss aber die Dateien von einem anderen Gerät rüber spielen. Um einfach Notizen zu machen und zum Lernen/ Aufgaben bearbeiten ist es auch ganz nett, solange man nicht vor hat die Notizen auf igendeine Art und Weise zu exportieren.
Echt schade, dass das so ein Reinfall ist, optisch und haptisch finde ich es sehr schön.

Never buy a Boox device

The company makes the money from selling hardware. So they ship each device riddled with bugs but then never actually release any software updates.

What happened with the Boox Note Max (i.e. shipped with major ghosting bugs and the abandoned) was unacceptable.

It's basically a scam company.

Don’t come near it

I rarely write reviews, but my experience with BOOX has been extremely disappointing.
The customer service is absolutely terrible — unresponsive, rigid, and completely uninterested in the customer’s needs. Their only focus seems to be on charging more money, not on creating a satisfied customer.

The policies are one-sided and inflexible, clearly designed to benefit the company, not the buyer.

As for the device itself, it feels like something from the 1980s — very low-level technology, slow loading times, primitive interface, and outdated fonts that make reading unpleasant. The user experience is frustrating, clunky, and far below what one would expect from a supposedly “smart” e-reader in this price range.

Overall, this product and the company behind it feel like a step twenty years backward in both technology and customer care.
I strongly recommend considering alternatives from more reliable brands that actually care about their users.

My almost three years old Onyx Boox suddenly appeared with a broken screen. No external pressure, no dropping. I reached out to Boox and have been exchanging several emails. response was extremely slow.

Appalling and Useless Piece of Kit

I've had my Onyx Boox device for several years now.
What a horrible pice of expensive (yes it is expensive) kit it is.
I have a Microsoft One Drive cloud account. I set up a folder in that account to sync all the local work I do on my Onyx Boox. It does NOT sync!!! The contents of the folders on the One Drive do not sync down to the Onyx device. THERE IS NO LOCAL STORAGE ON THE DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!
On the home page there is an option called "Storage" You can click it but you WON'T FIND THE FOLDERS AND DOCUMENTS IN YOUR CLOUD SERVICE, THAT YOU HAVE LINKED TO, ANYWHERE TO BE FOUND.
This piece of rubbish does NOT hold your work locally, so if you are out and about where you don't have access to your network, you can't open the documents you need that are in your Cloud folder!!!!
There is another option on the Home Page of the device called "Notes." Once again, it does NOT sync with what you have in your Cloud folder that you have linked the device to!!!!!!!!! It should download what's online in that folder to somewhere local on the device - THAT'S WHAT SYNCING IS!!!!!!!!!!!
But it doesn't do that.
The manual is Zero help, and you can't even copy and paste items in your cloud folder (or even anything local) into the "Notes" or "Storage" local sections.
Massively expensive for a product that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. Sure you can create a document on it, but even that is not straightforward. There are LOTS more negatives to be said about this appalling device, but enough said. You should avoid it like the plague!!!!!!!!!!
