After a lengthy hearing - and a gruelling cross examination I had to endure, the Judge ruled in our favour!
For me, having never appeared in a court before (except Jury service), the whole journey has been edifying and somewhat daunting, and certainly an emotional roller coaster!
At times over the months, I wanted to jack the whole thing in, when I realised how much of my own time and effort was required, and indeed costs that I have had to bear, with the thought of how much more it would cost me if we lost.
However, Elliot Hammer addressed my questions and anxieties admirably as we went along, with his easy and relaxed manor and assurances.
It took nearly four hours to conclude, as it ran overtime and the Judge had to go to another case and come back while we waited. Towards the end of the judge’s summing up and adjudication, (which she did so eruditely), I started to realise we were going to win – against all my expectations! The Judge even refused them leave to appeal, but as we would expect from these people they are already applying for permission to appeal.
So the journey is NOT OVER, and we brace ourselves for their appeal - if and when it comes.

It is with great pleasure, and a large dollop of gratitude, that I write this review of Messrs Branch Austin, a law firm that is packed with talented and empathetic professionals.

I am disallowed on reviewing the circus parading as a law firm which acted, but didn’t act, for a company I was previously a director of, and then, in a conflict of interest, sided with what became 50% of the board of directors and the belligerents in this sorry tale of a group of family businesses and Board rooms gone terribly wrong.

Nevertheless, upon their taking up our cause, Messrs Branch Austin - with dream team Hal and Harender Branch at the front line - after 18 months of the Covid crisis affecting previous solicitors’ performance via burn out or indeed, most unfortunately, illness, renewed my faith not only in the competency of those involved in this tricky section of company law, but also in humanity.

What the belligerents and the previous law firm did to almost erode my faith entirely in lawyers, accountants and people over the nearly two years of bitter dispute, was within 3 months restored by Hal and Harender and their team, with wary experience now the only difference between now and those naïve concepts that were manifest pre-Covid.

What had been so sorely missing under the Circus Masters (and Mistresses) of the previous shower, along with their inability to run a bath, was now all too clear and as abundant the produce farmed in Mpumalanga, Mzanzi’s fruit basket of the East: competency; honesty; integrity; passion; empathy; courtesy; professionalism; comprehension; wisdom; knowledge; expertise; SAVOIR FAIRE.

What can I say? Branch Austin were Olympic Gold. And the others? Why, they were the pits, man. Truly.

Roland handled the legal work in the recent purchase of my flat and I found the whole experience completely stress free, as was the sale of my flat in the west country dealt with by Tania earlier on in the year. Saika Alam has been truly outstanding in her management of my complex matrimonial and child access case for the past year. The story started with marital disharmony which quickly escalated into appauling allegations made by my spouse that lead to the involvement of social services, police and the courts. I had an injunction against access to my home and was barred from seeing my child. Being a professional, I was suspended from employment till the outcome of police investigations and court case. Initially whatever could go wrong went wrong and I had reached a very low point in my life losing literally everything I had; job, home and above all my child.

Saika Alam was my solicitor from the outset. She was calm, empathic and transparent. She acknowledged the initial setbacks but always gave me hope by keeping site of the bigger picture. She is perceptive but above all very meticulous and efficient. We managed to overhaul myself from a heartbreaking situation to one of confidence and positivity.

The police cases were dropped and Saika managed to persuade the court to bring the hearing back a few months due my special circumstances. She searched for the best barristers who were also admirable in court and we managed to gain success in all fronts with my legal fees falling on my spouse.
I gained access to my house again and was quickly reinstated into work again.

Saika was also quick to work on access to my child in tandem with the matrimonial case; and I have gained a good arrangement via court and am reunited with my child and enjoying a wonderful relationship.

A year on from the initial turmoil and heartache I am now in a much better position in life. Reinstated into my job with complete access to my house and above all reunited with my beloved child.

This was a landmark case covering all aspects of matriomonial legalities. Saika has been truly wonderous and I cannot recommend her enough for her sheer professionalism and expertise. After speaking with 3 lawyers my wife and I were unsure of their quality, but when I was suggested Branch Austin after speaking to them (Jeyesh Jethwa) within 10 mins we realised how professional and legitimate they were and instantly chose to go with them. We applied for a spouse visa for my wife in the middle of a pandemic who was on a tourist visa, yet within 1.5 months due to their extensive knowledge and hard work we were granted the Spouse visa without having to leave the country.
