I recently hired the Britex carpet cleaner. It was the first time I tried it out, having used the Rug Doctor annually, for a decade +. I always wondered whether the cleaner would stack up to the other brand, so I gave it a go.
I got as far as completing one room then I quit. The reasons are as follows:
- I measured the amount of water added to the machine and extracted from the carpet, when empty. The input was 9L and the extraction was 4L. My carpet is dense so this posed a major issue for me. Our weather over Summer, while we had hot days was very humid. This did not bode well for drying my carpet, certainly not with that much water left in it. Clearly the power of the unit does not match that of the RD. It may saturate the carpet with the same amount of water but it definitely doesn't extract as much.

- Compared to the competitor's unit, the water input opening at the top has no lip so it was very difficult to avoid any of the water from spilling over the edges. The RD has a specific lip on their machine to stop this happening. It was very annoying having to use a towel to mop up the overspill when filling the clean water tank on the machine.
The head at the end of the wand, where the water comes out, kept swivelling so I had to constantly use my arm muscles to correct it, to do straight runs. On returning the unit to the store, the staff person told me that the head is meant to swivel. If that is so then the machine does not suit older folk as it puts a lot of pressure on the back and arms when using it on straight runs.

- The cleaning action is nowhere near as good at cleaning the carpet as the RD which also has a row of bristles at the front of their machine. It works brilliantly on our carpet, which I clean annually. We live at home with a little dog, so it's not as if there is ground in dirt from heavy traffic. Having said that, it always amazes me just how dirty the carpets can get over 12 months.

- I had to pay an extra $6 for the upholstery attachment which comes with the RD, at no extra cost. This is an unnecessary charge if you want to be level pegging at the price point with the RD.

Sadly, there is no machine on the market that combines the best aspects of both machines. The Britex is definitely more functional when cleaning under furniture but it fails the cleaning test on major traffic areas. A wet carpet can potentially develop mould as well as weakening the structure of the carpet, so the Britex unit is a risky investment from my perspective.
It is no great impost connecting up the RD upholstering appliance to clean around areas that are narrower/lower than the width/height of their machine. Having said that, this is definitely a plus for the Britex machine as there is no extra work in making a change.

When a machine has been designed that combines the best of both the RD and Britex machines, customers will definitely be on a winner.

The machine was easy to operate, instructions was super easy to read and understand. Was very happy with the company's instructions and hire of machine, will use this method of cleaning again.

The carpet cleaner is easy to operate and I hire one anually for a thorough clean.

Carpets were defs cleaner and nicer smelling. One or two stains of unknown origin remained - may need to concentrate on them more, next time, but overall happy with the results.

Convenient hire, easy to use and not bulky at all. Fantastic for deep cleaning tough built on stains and leaving the house feeling fresh.

Overall Satisfied it cleaned carpets better then expected. The cleaning solution smells good. Didn't take long to dry carpet feels so soft like the day it was laid.

I've hired Britex machines for quite a few years now, why hire a professional when I can do it myself?? They're easy to use, always easy to find a location to hire them from anywhere & bring my carpets back to their former glory!!

My machine was broken. I hired it to clean a couch and the couch adaptor did not work. It leaked fluid everywhere and made a mess. I cleaned the couch using the main carpet wand, but it's too big to clean the small edges and get into it. The outcome was ok but I couldn't get some areas cleaned. Woolworths refused to refund me.

It was great value for money, was very easy to use and freshened the carpets up nicely. The carpets were dry within a few hours just with the ceiling fan on.

I have been hiring these cleaners for over 40 years. I have Pets and the amount of hair and dirt that comes out is frightening! Glad that there have been no issues with how they work for the past few years. Will continue to hire every 6 months. The apholstery wand brings the Sofa up like new. Pay the extra $10 for 48 hours and then less stress.

I vacuum my carpet almost daily & am always surprised to see how much dirt still comes out of the carpet when I use the Britex. It helps eliminate my daughters dust allergy symptoms & keeps my home smelling fresh & clean. I recommend using every 6 months - especially if you have kids!

Wanted to quickly clean the carpets… that day I picked up the machine and with in 3 hours the job was done most satisfying. Thanks Britex it’s a great service just borrowed it from the local supermarket.
