What was meant to be an engagement holiday turned into one of the most stressful weeks of our lives due to a dangerous vehicle and extremely poor support from Bunk Campers.
Pickup in Belfast (4 April) was chaotic — we waited over an hour, received a very poor handover, and as first‑time campervan users were not properly shown how to operate or drive the vehicle.
Within 45 minutes of leaving, warning lights (ABS, engine, EPC) appeared. We contacted Bunk Campers and were advised to log a ticket and continue if the van felt OK, as the depot had closed. The lights remained on for days.
On 8 April, while driving near Dingle, the rear driver’s wheel began crunching and we lost traction. A mechanic confirmed the brakes had seized, the handbrake wasn’t working, and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. We were forced to park the van and rely on Bunk Campers’ insurance.
From this point, support completely collapsed. Phones went unanswered, no one coordinated towing, and we were left stranded in Dingle. We had to book emergency B&Bs, pay for taxis, chase insurers ourselves, and arrange onward travel just to make our flight from Dublin. This took two full days of stress and uncertainty, with no proactive help.
The campervan was not fit for purpose, and the lack of communication and duty of care was shocking. We are hundreds of pounds still out of pocket for accommodation, taxis, campsites, fuel, food, and lost holiday time.
I would not recommend Bunk Campers based on this experience.

Unable to contact - sent numerous emails which keep bouncing back, phone number does not work and no reply on Facebook. Please provide a different email contact as the enquiries on on your email clearly doesn’t work.

Nous avons une réservation pour aujourd’hui, n’avons pas pu les contacter. Leur téléphone n’est plus actif, leurs mails reviennent sans être réceptionnés, même leur compte Instagram répond en disant qu’ils ne sont pas dispo.
Nous partons donc sans savoir ce que l’ont va trouver…
Pas idéal comme départ en vacances…

Trying to contact bunk campers for over 3 days. The phone line just says they can't accept my call. The email on the website does not exist as a notice for failure to deliver is generate by the 2 emails I used.
You then have asked me to reach out. Its impossible to get in touch with your company. This is 7th of April. Same thing on the phone, can't take your call. Hangs up. What sort of a swindle is this. Indie campers have no record of my booking . You have my details . Reach out to me .

On ne peut pas mettre zéro.
Camping car livré avec tuyau d'eau coupé, draps sales (poils et tâches), WC partiellement nettoyé, intérieur des tiroirs sales, pas le bon nombre de coussins pour faire un matelas.... la liste est longue
Bref, à fuir de toute urgence.
Voyage en cours pour nous avec juste l'envie de rentrer chez nous. Le stage de survie ce n'était pas dans le contrat.
Ce sera une plainte à la clé si aucune solution n'est trouvée avec ces escrocs.

Notre expérience avec Bunk Campers en Écosse a été catastrophique.
Nous sommes tombés en panne pendant notre location et l’assistance promise a été totalement inexistante. Malgré plus de 50 appels passés pour essayer d’obtenir de l’aide, personne n’a été capable de nous apporter une solution concrète.
Nous avons été laissés livrés à nous-mêmes, immobilisés dans un camping, sans aide logistique ni même des instructions claires sur la marche à suivre, et ce pendant 4 jours Pire encore, nous n’avions plus de nourriture, et aucune solution ne nous a été proposée pour nous dépanner dans cette situation.
Une telle absence de support dans un moment de difficulté est inacceptable pour une entreprise de location de camping-cars. Quand un problème arrive — et cela peut arriver — on attend au minimum une assistance efficace et humaine. Ici, ce n’était tout simplement pas le cas.
Je ne recommande absolument pas Bunk Campers. Je laisse rarement un avis, mais celui là est nécessaire.Si vous avez un problème sur la route, ne comptez pas sur eux pour vous aider.

DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY! They left us stranded in their broken-down camper van for three days over the Christmas holidays. They cheated us when finally replacing the camper van and made us drive BACK to Dublin to even get the replacement. They shorted us on the propane and other supplies in the replacement and cheaped out on reimbursing us for the absolutely horrible way in which their carelessness and DISHONESTY ruined our Ireland vacation. They are corrupt, uncaring, dishonest, unorganized, and perhaps even criminal. DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH BUNK CAMPERS FOR ANY REASON!

We recently hired a motorhome from this company and unfortunately were left feeling disappointed with the overall experience.
While the vehicle itself was generally tidy, it was clearly in need of a refresh. The cloth seats and curtains were worn and had visible stains, which meant it didn’t feel particularly clean or well cared for. For a rental vehicle, especially at the price point, we expected a fresher and better-maintained interior.
The booking process was straightforward and communication beforehand was good. However, the checkout experience left a sour taste. It felt as though we were being pressured into purchasing additional insurance, almost as if the vehicle was being “held to ransom” without it. When I raised that it felt like scare mongering and asked what percentage of customers who take out the insurance actually end up needing it, the response was simply “a lot” — not exactly reassuring or data-driven.
On returning the vehicle, we were asked about a windscreen chip. When we explained it was present at collection, the staff member acknowledged it looked like a previous repair. This left us questioning why it was raised at all, and gave the impression they were looking for an opportunity to charge us.
The handover was also poor. Rather than being properly shown how everything worked, we were directed to scan a QR code for the manual. As a result, we had to figure out several functional details ourselves during the trip.
Overall, while the initial booking and communication were good, the condition of the vehicle and the customer service experience were disappointing. We would not rush to use this company again without significant improvements.

Currently in the middle of a break down just outside Inverness. When speaking with Bunk Campers so far they have been entirely focused on motorhome recovery and completely surprised when we ask what happens to us and e.g. a replacement motorhome. Of 3 different agents spoken to none has offered any reassurance; onward holiday options, or; any run through of options that they can help with in terms of resolving the issue.
Now 16 hours at the roadside, we still haven’t been a) recovered (precious little help from Bunk there, all down to us to coordinate), b) given a direct dial phone number for the Edinburgh branch (our hire location) to ascertain what happens in terms of our hire contract and vehicle collection if we are unable to return it ourselves.
There appears to be no dedicated Bunk Campers breakdown team with experience dealing with these situations, only some poor soul on-call in Belfast.
In our case, the motorhome we hired was a Fiat. Since it was in warranty Bunk policy is that *you* therefore phone *Italy* to request breakdown assistance. This is subcontracted to Stellantis UK, who in turn subcontract to Allianz. Bunk have so far been quite unwilling and/or unable to liaise with any of these companies to coordinate getting their own motorhome back. We have unwittingly become unpaid recovery coordination agents.
Fingers crossed this gets resolved and we a) get home at some point with all our worldly belongings, b) don’t lose our substantial deposit, c) don’t get fined for any recovery related issues. Time will tell…

The process of picking up and dropping off the vehicle was swift and hassle-free, thanks to the courteous and professional team. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would wholeheartedly endorse Bunk Campers.

We had to wait 3 hours for our van & the extras we ordered were not supplied including bedding! The van had many faults & we had to waste a day getting parts & having them fitted. They paid for the parts but didn't compensate us adequetly for the time spent.
Also I damaged the bike rack and in my opinion we were massively overcharged for that. I would never use them again.

Thank you for the opportunity. We had a good time in the camper van. What was a drawback was:
1. availability of gas bottles. We went to 16 different fuel stations and were left cold in the country for three days without gas.
2. Extreme lack of services in Ireland during this particular hire period. This was not conveyed to us prior to hire.
3. Lack of information about exactly when and where to pick up the van in Dublin. The location to collect the van is very tricky to find as the IMAP’s and Google maps puts the address in a business park across the other side of a main road.
4. Water tank was only set to receive 20 litres of water. We were not made aware of this. I only realised it when our water started to pump out of a bung hole and I had to research what was happening. I found that both bungs in the tank were open. I had no water for the last two days.
5. Crockery shouldn’t really be crockery it should be melamine or something similar to stop the rattling.
6. There was a TV fitting but no TV in the van.
7. This is a design fault but the ladder at the back for the top back bunk should be located to the side to allow for the entry and egress of the bottom bunk and the opening of the fridge.
8. The fridge seals were really dirty and smelly.
9. The plug for the kitchen sink did not fit. It had a metal spike in it which I needed to modify to allow it to fit.
10. The service from the Dublin branch was outstanding. Both men from there were so helpful and caring. Thank you to both of them.

We had a great trip to Scotland with Bunk Campers and were very satisfied overall. The service was excellent and everything worked smoothly.
There was one small issue when refilling the gas — the technical hotline was unfortunately not very helpful in that situation. However, aside from that, everything else was perfect.
Pickup and return were quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and professional. All in all, we were very happy with our experience and would definitely recommend Bunk Campers.
