Extremely kind and honest as it relates to the VFX world. Not having much knowledge, they quickly educated me and gave me honest feedback. I cannot thank them enough.

I recently had my first experience with cghero, the site layout is very clean and easy to understand but the lack of a tutorial about how the projects should be done, quote system and on..., made my experience a little harder, but the support team on discord and by email are fast and very helpfull, so i look forward for getting more projects on cghero.

We recently worked on a complex project through CGHero. Throughout the process, the client changed direction multiple times — approving parts of the work and later requesting modifications that were not originally agreed upon. Despite delivering everything that was scoped, communication became difficult and the project ended in a dispute.

During the entire situation, the CGHero team provided professional and fair support. They reviewed all the materials and ultimately made a balanced decision that acknowledged the quality and scope of our work — and we truly appreciated that.

While the experience wasn’t easy, the transparency, guidance, and human approach from the team made the overall collaboration still a positive one. CGHero remains a valuable platform to connect with clients and creative opportunities, and we look forward to collaborating again on future projects.

I run a small creative agency in the UK, our in-house CGI artists were all booked out on jobs when another urgent project came in the door. So I needed to source a reliable good quality 3D artist at short notice. I called all my usual contacts, and some wild cards- but no joy. Couldn't get freelance help. So I turned to CGHero, a service I've never used before, and was a little wary of.

However, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it's worked out for our studio. Within an hour I was signed-up and had published my brief. Within two hours I had agreed a fee with a CG Artist and our first KO meeting with the client was booked for later that day. Result.

CGHero provides a large stable of artists working across all the major software platforms to select from. You post a detailed brief and interested artists on CGHero reply with their estimate for fulfilling the job.

I found the two CG Hero staffers I dealt with - Luke and Kimberley - to be polite, professional and really helpful. I asked lots of questions which they answered with grace and patience. I mean, I asked A LOT of questions!

They also steered me towards CG artists most suitable for my project. I went with their recommendation and worked with Joseph, who turned out to be an ideal choice.

I had one of my in-house artists discuss the project with him prior to kick-off, and then Joseph took over and it's gone very smoothly.

A good feature of the CGHero project management interface which I did not cotton onto at first is the ability to break your project into milestone tasks and allocate a fee for each milestone. This encourages the artist to reach milestones quickly in order to receive stage payment. Also, if it's a long term project it's only ethical to ensure the artist gets regular staged payments instead of having to wait until the very end of the project.

This task based payment process feature also provides some protection for the commissioner. If for some reason the artist is not working out for you, then you can switch to a new artist at the end of a stage payment. You are not stuck with an artist. So do break down your project into task based paid stages. Better for you, better for the artist.

You pay the entire fee upfront to CG Hero who hold it in escrow, and they release the money to the artist either at the end of the project or in agreed staged payments which need to be set using the tasks function.

CGHero put a decent size mark-up on their CGI artists fees, of course, which is to be expected as they have staff/ admin /technical/marketing etc costs to cover.

The fee you pay includes the artists fee and CGHero fee. There's no hidden extras later, which is nice to know when budgeting. But you should always confirm with any service provider anyway that the amount shown includes all costs.

As the CG Artists day rates are very reasonable to start with I found the overall cost per day even with the CGHero markup to be really competitive.

My CG artist Joe was smart, talented and fast. It was a technical type project and he 'got it' right away. I soon had enough faith in him to bring him into F2F meetings with the client. He was sharing his screen and work in real time, which gave the client real confidence. Joseph was professional, friendly and knowledgeable with a can-do attitude - as good as one of my own full-timers for sure!

I liked the fact that once my CGI artist was assigned, I had free access to work with that artist - no CGHero middle-management or oversight. They put us in contact, facilitated the financial transactions, then checked in occasionally but mainly just let us get on with things.

For small agencies with limited in-house resources CGHero is a genuine option when you need that extra bit of creative firepower at short notice. They certainly delivered the goods when I needed it.

Based on this positive first experience I will be using CGHero again. Thoroughly recommended.

It took a few months to start landing gigs through CG Hero but I've been working with them for over a year now and I'm really enjoying it.
