HMRC Issue resolution provided by Cigma
I engaged Cigma in January to assist with submitting my self-assessment and to review a simple assessment calculation I’d received from HMRC. There is definitely room for improvement here, as a couple of items were initially missed and only corrected after I reviewed the submission myself before it went to HMRC.
Subsequently, I encountered an issue with HMRC, who claimed they hadn't received a payment for a tax bill from the previous year — even though I had paid and had proof of payment. I reached out to Cigma for help, as I was unable to get through to HMRC directly to resolve the matter.
The representative I worked with at Cigma, Dillan, followed up with HMRC multiple times over the course of about six weeks and consistently kept me updated. Thanks to his persistence, the issue was finally resolved.
I’m extremely grateful for Dillan’s time and effort — it helped alleviate a lot of stress. Based on this experience alone, I would recommend Cigma.

I am really disappointed with my…
I am really disappointed with my experience with Cigma accounting. I approached them for a relatively small and very low complexity job. I had to chase multiple times, the work they conducted was inaccurate and of poor quality. When I raised my concerns I was ignored for weeks. There's an apparent lack of detail whilst handling jobs - I was sent some details from another client by mistake. Overall the experience has been very poor, although the staff had always been friendly.

Unprofessional with chaotic service
This was the worst accounting experience I've ever had. Despite the promising professional look, their handling of my self assessments was a shambles. My first discussion with the accountant was in December but my self assessments were not completed until 8pm on 31st January. On the 31st I had approx 12 calls with them plus emails just to get the returns done. This was on top of the many messages and calls I had in the previous week asking the status. I don't know if Cigma truly didn't care/worry about competing the work or were so snowed under they couldn't cope, either way it wasn't professional and caused me a lot of stress and anxiety. I had also paid extra to have a certain issue looked at but the accountant was absolutely hopeless and knew nothing. In hindsight I think maybe they weren't even an accountant and I had to pay to see another accountant who actually knew something about the issue. I had intended to dispute this and not pay for it however the lodgement of the self assessment returns were down to the wire and I had no choice but to pay otherwise they wouldn't have lodged my returns on time. Overall a terrible experience that I hope never to have again.

01 Feb 25 - Just checked my HMRC account online and it is showing my assessment is late. So despite Cigma saying they could lodge at any time on 31 Jan I think this is incorrect. What would be more accurate to say is you can lodge anytime online but it may indeed be late.

A trustworthy company...
I did not trust Cigma initially as I have come across many accountants firms who present themselves as brilliant! So when you get in touch with them they want to know that you are a straight-forward client, then they either take you on their books, or they are not interested. OR they hike up their costs if it's anything out of the ordinary.
When I actually got on board with Cigma (I was a pain in the *ss because my old computer could not work with their IT systems). I was surprised to find how patient and solution-finding support they offered. I really like them!
They have gained my trust enough for me to approach them in February (when they have calmed down from 31st Jan deadline) to ask for an appointment about complex tax issues around foreign investment sales, and advice related to pension/retirement, and financial planning around those tax implications.

I had a very frustrating experience…
I had a very frustrating experience with CIGMA ACCOUNTING LTD. Their communication was poor, with emails and calls often going unanswered for weeks. When they did respond, the advice given was either unclear or incorrect, leading to delays and additional costs on my end.
I also found their approach to be unprofessional and disorganized. Several documents were misplaced, and deadlines were missed without explanation. I expected much more from an accounting firm, especially considering the trust and financial responsibility involved.
I cannot recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable and efficient accounting support.

CIGMA Ltd has been my accountant for 7 years and I am still happy with their excellent, reasonably priced services. Alessandra answers all of my questions including about invoice forms for German clients and German VAT immediately. She manages my tax returns and VAT returns for sole traders on time and very professionally. I highly recommend Alessandra and her team especially for small and/or startup businesses who work internationally.
