We have been working with the fraud department for 9 months now with only a partial resolution. Dozens of calls where we are on hold for over two hours. The branch manager was totally incompetent and part of the problem. I suggest the upper management that get bonuses try to resolve a few issues over the phone.
Can’t leave this bank fast enough.
Transferring IRA to a different institution
DONT USE CITIBANK. Fraudulently holding on to my money because they're backed up. Citibank won't let go of my money. My CD matured with Citibank on March 20th, 2026 through March 26th 2026. I had Fidelity send a letter on March 18th regarding transferring funds. I am still waiting it has been 20 days. Citibank received the paperwork and says it's in review. Basically the offshore supportive staff stated there behind. She stated typically at 7 to 10 days.
I called Citibank twice during that time frame and no customer service representative could confirm that they received paperwork from Fidelity. In the interim I had them transfer my CD to an IRA because no one could answer my questions and I didn't want to get stuck with another 6-month CD with Citibank. This has been a nightmare. I have spent over 2 hours in total trying to get to the bottom of the situation. Thanks for confirming I will never be using your institution again.
Has Citibank Been Borrowing Our FEDERAL BENEFICIARIES MONTHLY PAYMENTS LIVING ABOARD Outside of the U.S. BOARDERS for an EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME PAST the 1st & or 4th of the REQUIRED DATES of CITIBANK
Has Citibank Been Borrowing approx 1 BILLION DOLLARS from the FEDERAL BENEFICIARIES MONTHLY PAYMENTS from the U.S. Government & CITIBANK'S Contract to DEPOSITED these U.S. Treasury A.C.H. Federal Beneficiaries Payments in Citibank's JOINT INTERNATIONAL A.C.H. Accounts With the FOREIGN DIRECT Deposit BANK ACCOUNT in the Country we LIVE IN!!! I have Maintained my Direct Deposits of my Federal Benefit Payments in 2015 after the MISPLACEMENT of 2 to 3 Monthly Payments. Since Citibank's Continued to Report & Clear Our TREASURY A.C.H.'S Payments as DEPOSITED on the 1st & 4th as MANDATED by the VA & SSA, but OUT of these OVER 10 Years or Over 120 Consecutive Months approx 5 to Maybe 10% of these Payments were Deposited on TIME as CITIBANK'S been PAID 100% for or Payments to be Deposited Around 2 weeks o to MORE!! Example My January, 2026 Payment was Reported that it was Deposited into my U.M.B. Direct Deposit Account in Ghana, But was ONLY DEPOSITED on the 20th January, 2026 after Citibank's REPORTED Depositing on the 31st December, 2025!!! How Can our Payments be in 2 Totally Separate PLACES at the EXACT SAME TIME!!! Well OUT of these OVER 120 CONSECUTIVE MONTHLY PAYMENTS With 8 Years or 96 MONTHLY Consecutive Payments that were REQUIRED to be Deposited into Zenith & Citibank's JOINT ACH Account that this GOVERNMENT Payment was Required to be Deposited into this Account & this was the EXACT REASON I Opened & had my Direct Deposit Transferred into this Zenith Bank Because of Zenith BANK'S JOINT ACH Accounts!!! But NOT 1 SINGLE U.S. Government ACH Payment out of the 96 Required Payments ZERO Payments were Deposited, So NOW after OVER 140 CONSECUTIVE MONTHLY PAYMENTS in 2 Set DIRECT DEPOSIT BANKS ONLY with 96 Plus Months with my Same Zenith Bank Account & OVER 36 of my LAST 3 FULL YEARS has BEEN DEPOSITED into MY EXACT SAME U.M.B. Account from 2023 through the 13th April, 2026!! These LAST Over 120 Consecutive Monthly Payments were ISSUED TOTALLY DIFFERENT A.C.H. Transactions, NOT the U S. Treasury ACH Payments with The Government Tracer Reference Numbers, But, it's MY UNDERSTANDING that Citibank By Definition Launders these Payments through ECOBANK in Ghana. Citibank Sends this UNDISCLOSED ECOBANK these BULK SWIFT WIRE TRANSFERS to ECOBANK Extremely LATE 1 day to more than 21 Days or 3 WEEKS or LONGER!!! ECOBANK Convert this BULK SWIFT for approx 2/3 RDS of the 2015 figure if around 160 Federal Beneficiaries living in Ghana. Then I ONLY know about 2 of the 3 Banks that were LAUNDERING these approx 160 with 50 to 60 per each of these 3 Banks in Ghana.were U.M.B. & ECOBANK. In 2016 the CEO of UMB that has been Converting these BULK SWIFT'S into NEW A.C.H. Transactions with Brand New Tracer Reference Numbers, So it's IMPOSSIBLE for ANYONE to TRACE or TRACK a MISSING Payment Because the Treasury ISSUED ACH Transactions were CASHED & CLEARED by CITIBANK as of MY VA ACCORDING to the VA on the 7th April, 2026 was Deposited into my 3 Year U.M.B. Direct Deposit Account on the 1st April, 2026!! But EVERY SINGLE 120 Plus Consecutive Months has ONLY Come from ECOBANK for 7 Plus Years with ZENITH Bank & the Consecutive 2023 through the 13th April, 2026 other than Continually Late From ECOBANK, BUT ONLY when I MAKE REQUEST ECOBANK to CONTACT CITIBANK to DEPOSIT MY PAYMENT that CITIBANK has CAUSED me to DEFAULT, BECAUSE I & the Other 160 Plus Federal Beneficiaries living in Ghana MUST LEND CITIBANK our Benefit Payments for this UNDETERMINED TIME of these INTEREST FREE LOANS from around 160 Beneficiaries living in Ghana, BUT if we in Ghana are being FORCED TO MAKE THESE Loans to CITIBANK what about the Approx 1 BILLION DOLLARS for approx ALL of the Federal Beneficiaries living Aboard!! But ONLY after I REQUESTED MY PAYMENT to KEEP Myself of FORFEITURE & LOST OF ASSET to Secure a LOAN Because Citibank MUST KEEP our Money with Citibank. So TO HARM me for requesting my Money 13 days after CITIBANK'S Reported FRAUDULENTLY to the Government on the EXACT SAME DAY I INFORMED ECOBANK & My U.M.B. Bank that I MUST HAVE my Money Returned & Deposited into my U.M.B. account as REQUIRED!! CITIBANK returned ONLY my MONEY But they DIDN'T DEPOSIT it as CERTIFIED by CITIBANK, CITIBANK returns ONLY my Payments
To the TREASURY as UNDELIVERABLE!! For OVER 120 Consecutive Months that ECOBANK has LAUNDERING for these OVER 10 Years, but when I REQUESTED by Payment as I had from my UMB Bank on the 7th thru the 13th & Finally I sent an EMAIL to ECOBANK & UMB about Citibank's WILLFUL FRAUD & MISAPPROPRIATION of our Federal Beneficiaries living Aboard Monthly Payments as INTEREST FREE LOANS!! All CITIBANK had to do was to EVEN if CITIBANK needed to my a Couple EXTRA Millions of Dollars to keep CITIBANK'S Doors OPEN!! But instead of Just Sending me my money, but Instead, I am messing up CITIBAN
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service. Citi aided and abetted eBay in ripping me off despite substantial proof provided by me that I was getting defrauded.
I opened a Citi credit card…
I opened a Citi credit card specifically to take advantage of their advertised Ticketmaster presale ticket benefits. I was approved with a high credit limit, which made me confident I’d be able to use the card for a time-sensitive presale purchase.
However, I later found out my temporary card access is limited to $1,000, which makes it impossible to actually use the presale benefit as intended.
I contacted customer service and was told the temporary limit couldn’t be increased and the physical card couldn’t be expedited through the mail. I also spoke with a supervisor, Mitch, around 1:27 PM, who offered no solution or alternatives.
It’s frustrating because Citi promotes these presale benefits, but does not clearly communicate restrictions that prevent new customers from fully using them right away. This creates a disconnect between what is advertised and what is actually usable.
If you’re considering this card for Ticketmaster presale access, be aware that temporary spending limits may prevent you from fully using the benefit during time-sensitive ticket sales.
Bad customer service/stupid automated system
I recently decided to switch my savings account due to the extremely poor customer service at Citibank. What should have been a simple request—adding a family member to my account for end-of-life planning—turned into a frustrating and exhausting process.
At first, there was no option to be transferred to a human agent. After many phone calls, I finally reached someone, only to be told that I had to be on a live phone call with the person I wanted to add. Later, the requirement changed, and I was told I had to visit a branch in person—even though there are no nearby branches where I live.
I then requested that the forms be mailed to me. They were sent, but the delivery was returned simply because no one was available to sign for it at the door. Now I’m back to square one.
I am tired of dealing with automated systems and finding it so difficult to reach a real person for help. This entire experience has been unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. Basic account services should not be this difficult to access. Very disappointing.
Never open a credit card in this bank
I am extremely disappointed with the lack of accountability at this bank. While traveling abroad, my card was fraudulently used across the US. Despite my immediate attempts to report the fraud, the bank's rigid verification process—requiring a US-based phone number I couldn't access—made it impossible to secure my account.
For two years, I visited multiple branches seeking a resolution, but I was repeatedly redirected to phone support or other locations. Now, they claim the case is too old to investigate, even though the delay was caused by their own inaccessible systems during the pandemic. It is ironic: they have enough security to block the actual owner from their funds, but not enough to stop a fraudster from spending them. I cannot recommend a bank that abandons its customers during a crisis.
Fraud victim created via vendor and again by Citi Bank
Fraud created via vendor, proved and monies put back in my account. However as a victim, Citi Bank also made me a second victim with first fraud by not providing a letter of fraud so that prosecution could happen. They are Judge, Jury and Executioner in victimizing their subscribers!
Can never log in
Can never log in, change passwords, never works. No problems on any other sites, I pay by mail now as it takes 15 minutes to pay over the phone
Customer Service is Rude and they will cease your funds.
A week ago I spoke to fraud and got my account fixed. They then turned around and lock me out of my account. I gave these rude customer service people 10 cellphone numbers today. All with different cell company’s. They couldn’t validate any of the numbers to verify me. The supervisor was rude as well. In all my life of working customer service I have never been spoken to the way these people spoke to me today. Then I have to wait on a letter to be mailed to me. So I have no money to go on my vacation with my kids. All because Citibank fraud me when I clearly told them a week ago it was me in my account. Nobody hacked me. I didn’t report any fraud or transactions to be refunded. Then I told the lady I was recording our phone call. She was continued to over talk me. Then I repeated myself once more to let her know once more and she hung up on me. All cause I just simply ask for my account to just be closed down. And wanted a supervisor. I’m applaud and not happy with my money being unavailable to use. Cause their system is crappy and unable to verify cellphone numbers. I will just stick to my navy fed account. Opened this account so I don’t mix up my business funding and my job funding. Thought Citi was going to be a good bank. Maybe I should of done better research on reviews.

Citibusiness is the WORST business I have ever encountered that is not an online Scammer. HORRIBLE. I recommend avoiding using them under any conditions.
Extremely Frustrating Experience with Citibank & its Customer Support
If I could leave zero stars, I would. I have multiple accounts with Citibank, and my experience with their customer service and issue resolution has been consistently unacceptable.
I’ve encountered several problems over time, including issues with their ACH transfer processes. Most recently, I’ve been unable to transfer money between my own business and personal accounts.
I spent over two hours on the phone speaking with multiple customer service representatives, and the issue still remains unresolved. This level of inefficiency and lack of support is incredibly disappointing.
Credit & trust gone bad....
Have had this card for 20+ years! The Jan. payment was late for a hefty fee, we blame the mail, or mail room, Feb I paid thru the phone,as I checked 3 days before the due date....not paid! Mar had a washed check that was deposited 2x! Had to close checking account, then Citi calls and said fraudulent charges, close the credit card acct. wait for new card...what a mess. AND, strange that 3 of my neighbors also got washed checks...I would say thieves are running the place.
Legitimate Dispute Denied Due to Incompetence
I had a legitimate dispute with a merchant and supporting documentation ready. Citibank did not at any point request that I provide any information, resolved the dispute in favor of the merchant, and upon raising this complaint to their customer service team, they refused to reopen the dispute and stated that the window of time to resolve the dispute was closed. Not only will that merchant never see a single penny from me again, but I’m now considering closing all of my accounts with Citibank out of principle.
Watch out for incorrect bank account connections to your credit card!
I just opened a new credit card account with Citibank. I set up the mobile app and used their prompts within the app to connect the card to my bank account for payment purposes. I then went in on the app to set up auto pay and noticed that the last 4 digits of the connected bank account were NOT the last 4 of my bank account. Tried calling and could not get a real person. Currently using the chat and the first agent kept me for 20 minutes and helped NOT AT ALL. The 2nd representative kept telling me he needed a "moment" to review the chat. For the next 15 minutes, he did not communicate with me and I kept receiving prompts to type a comment to "keep the conversation open." I finally typed that I was going to end the chat and try calling again. He never responded. I tried calling after that and did finally reach a human being. Though I had a very difficult time understanding her, she was able to help me...I think. Time will tell, I guess. Feeling very frustrated and somewhat anxious about dealing with a company that somehow connected my credit card to an unknown bank account and then when I get in touch about something so serious, I am then transferred around for 45 minutes with no resolution and people who seem to have zero idea how it could have happened or what to do about it.
Robbers
They hold on my money from December of 2025 and now is March 31, 2026 and I call twice a month and I still can't get my money back.
Customer service representative are rude and doesn't help.
Citibank steals money
I guess my review is Moot. They charged me a bounced check fee because their system failed to retrieve my payment from my bank. My bank says there is no record of an attempt to retrieve the payment. Citibank is just trying to steal money from people and since they are so big, there isn't much we can do about it.
Citibank is the worse place to get a…
Citibank is the worse place to get a card or a loan. Do NOT do business with them. They will charge you interest months later after you pay off your account. Paid it, closed it and out of no where I get an email saying I owe another interest payment. A month later and its late! No bill in the mail, nothing. So a heated conversation again with someone who you can barley understand claims my account is now paid in full. We'll see. I have a feeling I'll need to contact the BBB. Not happy with anything they have said or done as nothing has been true. If the account was paid in full last time and I closed the account why did I get charged agaian?!? Citibanks are crooks and liars. So I would highly suggest not to do any business with them unless you like getting screwed.
NEVER Deal with Citibank For Anything. They're Incompetent.
Trustpilot is usually a reliable place to get a sense of how a company really operates, so it’s no surprise to me that Citibank has such low ratings.
One of the biggest issues is simply trying to reach a real person, it’s extremely difficult, and even when you do, communication can be a challenge. Here’s what happened in my case:
I applied for a credit card specifically to complete a balance transfer, as I’m currently between jobs and was drawn in by Citibank’s 21-month interest-free offer. After finally receiving the card, I attempted to transfer $10,044.00. My credit limit was $15,400.00, so this should not have been an issue.
However, when I submitted the transfer online, it was rejected with a message saying I needed to call because the account was new. When I called, the representative informed me that I was only authorized to transfer approximately $4,000. I made it very clear that if I had known that limitation beforehand, I never would have opened the account. I then explicitly told them to cancel the transaction entirely, as I would instead use a card from Chase Bank.
About a week later, I discovered that my Chase card had a negative balance of $9,990.00. After investigating, I found that Citibank had gone ahead and processed the transfer anyway, despite my clear instructions to cancel it.
As a result, I’m now facing roughly $1,000.00 in costs to fix this situation. I fully intend to pursue this matter as far as necessary. If their calls are recorded, it should be clear that I explicitly requested the transaction be canceled.
I would give negative stars if I could
I would give negative stars if I could. . . Worst customer service EVER!!!!!! I reported my card missing four different times in February. I spent countless hours on the phone with them. I RECORDED the conversations because they were so inept. They allowed the thief to charge $6000 in charges on my card in Chicago. All charges were disputed, now their automated system is saying that I am responsible. NOPE CITI - you are responsible, and anyone working with Citi - just don't. If anything happens, you will spend months trying to fix it. They should be paying me a salary at this point.
