I am very grateful for the hands on and personal nature of this experience. Although busy, my counsellor was extremely flexible and and understanding of countless scheduling issues on my part. Elaborating on the first point, the connection-aspect of everything was very important to me. It felt personalized to the perfect extent, providing me with great skills for the application process and skills I was able to use on my own in an appeal letter which got me accepted to my dream school. If you value personalized help, I would highly recommend CEG, both counselling and their essay coaching. Both made the process a lot more easier to manage, organized, and even enjoyable.

We are not located in the US and don't have recent experience with the admissions process, so it was incredibly helpful to have someone to bounce things off of and help us prioritise. Our CEG counsellor was incredibly supportive and absolutely helped simplify and streamline the process in a way that really reduced the stress (as much as that is possible : ). And of course, it was so nice to have a familiar face over the whole process and feel that someone really knew our child and was looking out for her.

From my child's perspective: My essay coach really helped me learn more about myself and express that through my essays. The brainstorming process and talking through things out loud was so helpful and I learned to love exchanging different stories with my coach.

I got to learn a lot about how I am perceived by different people and what I want to show when writing essays and talking to people. I am very proud of the creativity and the way that I was able to share so much about myself in not that many words.

We made the right decision to hire CEG to support our child with his college essays. We chose their premium service, and we found it to be very well worth it.
The CEG coach guided our child through the entire process, helping to shape his thinking, offering thoughtful and critical feedback, and providing encouragement during challenging moments. Importantly, we did not intervene at all, which greatly reduced the stress of the college application process for our family.
In the end, our son was accepted to numerous excellent universities, including a top 3 school. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
At the same time, I want to offer a balanced perspective to other parents considering hiring an essay coach. College essays are only one component of the application, and top schools are extremely selective. Admissions standards at elite private schools are extremely rigorous. Even if you have strong qualifications, you can’t assume that hiring a good essay coach guarantees an admission. Thinking that way is unrealistic and also unfair to the essay coach.
Our son was also rejected or waitlisted by a few top schools, and we fully accept that as part of the process. Our coach did his best, my son did his best, but there are just too many outstanding applicants. The key is to stay composed, remain patient, and trust the process.

Tom was fantastic, and the entire experience was wonderful. College Essay Guy has a truly collaborative approach that allows each student’s unique story to shine. Beyond the outstanding results our daughter achieved, the process was smooth, supportive, and significantly less stressful than we expected.

I cannot recommend CEG’s resources enough! I work at a STEM-focused high school where a large portion of our students are from underrepresented populations in STEM fields and will be first generation college-going students. In years past, we have shared CEG’s free resources with our students as we begin to talk to them about the college process. They are straightforward and super helpful to our students. This year (Feb. 2026), the Director of College Counseling (Morgan) visited our school and spoke with our students about the college admissions process. The time she spent with our students was invaluable. She was so knowledgeable about the ever-changing college application and admissions process and was able to meet our students where they are, answering questions that ran the gamut from “how do I choose a college” to “how do I pay for college”. Addressing the "how do I pay" question is crucial for first-gen students to ensure they are looking at "financial fits" just as much as academic ones, and she approached this in a way that made our students trust she was looking out for their best interests. I’m a big fan of CEG and highly recommend their team to educators looking to provide high-quality guidance to their students.

Every person we engaged with at College Essay Guy was great, even our sales rep! My daughter's essay coach, Meg, was encouraging every step of the way, but also clear and firm on the next set of things that needed to be accomplished. This kept the forward momentum going and made the process feel manageable for a kid who was very, very busy. I feel like Meg brought out the best in my daughter and helped her to feel confident that it was okay to brag about herself.
Meg also became a confidant. When our daughter made the difficult decision to not apply to a college that had previously been her top choice, a decision that was not easy for her, Meg was the person who helped her feel calm and confident about it. I thought my daughter's essays were great, but it's how she felt about herself and her ability to communicate at the end of the process that was truly priceless. Watching the whole thing was pretty magical.

The essay coach was a great match for him…their interests were aligned. My son felt seen and supported and valued. The process of defining his values and goals and then writing a story showing who he is felt like a culminating experience as he stands at this transition to young adulthood.

I appreciated this whole experience for our daughter! It was a unique opportunity that fostered self-reflection and personal growth through writing. All of this led to her crafting authentic essays and a cohesive application story.

Her mentor was a terrific fit - I am thankful for whoever helped make this fit happen. As a parent, I felt I could let go, not meddle, and trust the process.

I also appreciated CEG's structured approach. They communicated clearly and provided thoughtful and timely feedback + support. Our daughter was initially matched with a different mentor who ended up leaving CEG last minute due to a job change after the process had already started. The CEG team was quick to respond and rematch - it all worked out fine!
