⚠️ WARNING TO TOURISTS VISITING THE COLOSSEUM – BE CAREFUL OF PEOPLE APPROACHING YOU IN THE TICKET QUEUE!
We had a very disappointing and heartbreaking experience at the Colosseum in Rome. I am sharing this review to warn other tourists, especially families travelling with children, so that nobody else has to go through what we experienced.
While we were waiting in the ticket queue, a person approached us and offered a guided tour, promising skip-the-line entry to the archaeological site and the Colosseum. As we were travelling with two young children, we trusted his promises and agreed to pay €100, hoping to make our visit easier and avoid long queues.
However, what happened next was completely unacceptable.
The person accompanied us only as far as Palatine Hill and then left us, telling us that we could enter the Colosseum from there without a ticket. He said he had to leave because he needed to attend his next tour. He simply left us to manage everything on our own.
Later, we discovered that we could not enter the Colosseum as he had told us. We needed valid entry tickets and had to follow the proper entry procedure. We had no valid tickets that would allow us to enter, and we were unable to visit the Colosseum.
We lost €100 and precious sightseeing time because we trusted someone who approached us with promises of a guided tour and entry.
The most heartbreaking part was our son. He had been eagerly waiting to visit the Colosseum and was extremely excited about the experience. Seeing his disappointment was painful. We chose this tour specifically because we were travelling with two children and wanted a smoother, less stressful visit. Instead, this experience ruined that part of our family trip.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF PEOPLE APPROACHING YOU IN THE TICKET QUEUE AND OFFERING GUIDED TOURS! Do not rely only on verbal promises. Before paying anyone, verify their identity, their affiliation (if any), and whether your booking includes valid Colosseum entry tickets. Check the official Colosseum website or official ticket counters for ticket information.
We are not claiming that this person represents any official organisation; we are sharing exactly what happened to us so that other visitors can be cautious.
We paid €100 expecting a guided tour and access to the Colosseum, but we were left without the entry we had been promised.
Please learn from our experience. Be vigilant, verify everything before paying, and don't let anyone ruin your family's visit to this incredible historical landmark.
