This is a review of Jo Thompson's The Fundamentals of Garden Design. I enjoy all the courses I have watched and each offer something different and I learn something new. I really enjoyed this course as Jo is very laid back in her approach and tells you all the fundamentals in an approachable way. She talks of designing a garden for the people that are going to use it who may have different needs/wants as well as zoning areas, use of hard materials, using verticals as well as the plants themselves. She shows you how to sketch and choose plants - trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs and gives 'rules of thumb' advice. There are two gardens featured in the tutorial - one a London garden for a woman and four boys of different ages. She likes plants and the boys want somewhere to sit with friends and a pizza oven. The garden is zoned so the pizza area is at the end of the garden and hedges are offset so from the house you can't see it. Nearer the house there is more seating. The other is a pub garden in a country setting so she discusses paths and journeys, dining and seating areas which would be applicable to most spaces. There are gabion raised beds and she talks of the trees (fruit) and shubrs and perennials and bulbs which make up the design. She has given me confidence to do battle with an area of my garden I am redoing. She's full of advice and tips and well worth watching.

This is my third course that l have purchased from the Create Academy. I am currently establishing a cutting garden here in Australia and although l live in a subtropical climate, l have learnt so much from Sarah’s class. Every day l sign on and when l complete the course l will watch it again & again.

It was a much shorter course than I expected. Annie seems out of practice to show us her techniques and I wasn't impressed with some of her finished works. She has a great personality. Overall she seemed like her head was not completely into this.

The best adventure. I like all the courses, but my favorite are both Rita Konig interior design courses and Anna Jones. Excellent!

Even though I'm a long time gardener, I still picked up lots fo very useful information. Henrietta and Bridget are a real pleasure to watch and it felt like they were right in front of me. I also love their style with flowers and their more wild way of arranging flowers which we really don't see in Australia much. I liked being able to stop the course at any time to take notes as well and replay sections. I felt that I could adapt the cultivation of flowers as well to our growing conditions here in Australia which is very tough in the southern Riverina region. Having the segments on southern France was helpful here. I like being able to revisit the lessons at any time as well so I can refreash my memory depending on the season I'm in. Thank you so much.

Ms. Crossley's enthusiasm and expertise, combined with her supportive instruction made this floristry course a pleasure to watch.

Rita does a phenomenal job inspiring and educating you on how to decorate your home. I am walking away with many good tidbits of knowledge that is immediately applicable and helpful.

The course was simple. The lessons were easy to follow and practical. One thing that should be made clearer before enrollment is that the course does not provide a certificate upon completion.

I just wanted to say just how stimulating these short courses are. I am following gardening courses mostly and have learnt SO much. I thoroughly recommend you invest in your 'pleasure of living' which these courses do give you a taste of for years to come! I can see it is a marvellous soft advertising touch as well so this is a win win for all.

I am half way through the ‘Create a Perennial Paradise in Pots ‘ and it is inspirational, informative and so very enjoyable! This is the second course from Arthur Parkinson I have undertaken online and it really has helped me with developing my small garden space. As a keen amateur with some mobility issues, this course has given me so many ideas and help and now I feel confident in going ahead with my longed for ‘investment’ purchases. My garden has benefited hugely from all the advice and ideas Arthur has given and the course material which I have downloaded is invaluable for continual referencing ( including stockists, etc). Great value for money and just so enjoyable. Thank you.

Bunny Williams has such a legendary eye. It was a brilliant experience to learn and understand why she's willing and indeed strives to obtain such beautiful juxtapositions of styles and periods. It's given me more confidence to seek out what I love while appreciating the need for contrast balanced with harmony. Quite grateful.

Arthur Parkinson's course 'Create a Perennial Paradise in Pots' was beautifully filmed and a joy to watch. Alongside practical tips suitable for any gardening appetite and budget, Arthur shares his holistic philosophy to gardening; always gardening for the good of all creatures and making use of natures own brilliant systems for preventing pest damage and disease. What I loved most about the course was the hands-on approach; Arthur shares his gardening process, not just the perfect image of the end result. Like his method of reinvigorating mint – what a game changer!
