Please don’t use them, you’ll regret it
I strongly advise against using Capital Door Stripping Cardiff. I paid to have my desk stripped, but it was returned in a very poor condition. It came back soaking wet and, once dried, was covered in acid marks that I had to sand down myself—something I shouldn’t have had to do after paying for a professional service. I also discovered multiple gauges that weren’t there beforehand, meaning I had to buy wood filler to repair the damage. Overall, there was a clear lack of care for my property, which was extremely disappointing considering the price they charge for their service.
Thieves
They collected my door promising a quick turnaround. Then told me for many weeks running to stay home for delivery but the door never came. After many months they decided they had lost the door. They have refused to compensate me for the door. They have not refunded my money for stripping either. I am £145 out of pocket and now they don’t reply to emails.

They did a professional job of stripping the doors down, and turned up on time for collection and delivery. The drivers were very helpful, having to carry the doors a fairly long way. The delivery driver carried two very heavy doors upstairs and would not accept a drink for his trouble. The only minor quibble was that the sanding was less than perfect in places, which is why I gave 4 stars and not 5.

Cardiff door stripping did a great job on our doors. Andrew was great at communicating with us and very kindly re arranged delivery of our doors. The doors look so much better, fantastic job!
Excellent Professional Job
The doors were collected and returned, on time, as arranged. The driver was very polite and helpful on both occasions. The quality of the work was second to none. All three doors were completely free of paint and were sanded to perfection, all ready to be oiled, without the need for any further preparation. A very happy customer from the Colchester area.
Please avoid this company
I wish I had read these reviews before going with this company. It has been a terrible experience that is, unfortunately, still ongoing. I have never written a review before, let alone a negative one, but feel I have to because of how bad the experience has been.
In short: delivery delayed multiple times, refund due for overpayment and still not received after 3+ weeks, doors arrived damaged. They claim the damage to the doors is superficial despite my photos showing otherwise. Our carpenter is shocked at the state of the doors.
After raising the above issues over email, the owner of the company (whom I'd never spoken to before) called me and raised his voice at me without me saying more than hello, asking why I was "obsessed" with getting the £35 refund I'm due. I had mentioned in an email that I had found that they operate under multiple names and about the negative reviews; he kept repeating this isn't illegal, which I never claimed.
I found this company under the name Period Door Stripping, but now know they also operate under Capital Door Stripping and sometimes answer the phone as "Door Stripping Company".
In full:
- I paid via bank transfer the night before delivery on 20th August. The delivery was then postponed shortly after.
- A week later the doors were delivered but there was still a lot of paint on the doors. Our builder who received them sent the doors back and sent us photos. From the photos we saw that these were the wrong doors.
- I asked for compensation of the delivery fee as they delivered the wrong doors. I received an apology but they also said "mistakes can happen" and that they operate at such low costs they cannot offer compensation.
- There was confusion on my end thinking more doors had been collected than had been (compounded by the fact the company charged me for 6 doors before delivery, even though they only had 5).
- I apologised for the confusion caused from my end (a mistake which they repeatedly bring up in response to the other issues I'm raising) and asked to be refunded for 1 door as I had overpaid. They agreed and asked for my bank details the same day, which I gave. This was just over three weeks ago.
- I waited a week and called to enquire after the refund. I was told that the manager was on holiday and only he could issue a refund. They also told me a cash refund could be given when the doors were delivered. I requested the bank transfer. I'm still waiting.
- Arranging a delivery date was very difficult as they said they only deliver in the area once a week and the day on which they deliver kept changing (sometimes it's a weekend day).
- I was told the doors would be delivered on Sunday 14th September with a text the day before with a time slot. This didn't happen.
- I called the following day and I was told the doors would be delivered that evening and that the driver would call 1 hour before delivery. I said that being called an hour before was essential as we needed to get over to the house and we didn't want the doors to be left outside. I said if we weren't at the house (fearing the driver wouldn't call us as promised), to put the refund through the letterbox.
- We didn't receive a phone call from the driver. The doors were found outside (in a covered area) the following morning. No refund was left.
- On inspection, many of the doors are damaged. The damage looks like the result of lack of care and mishandling.
-I sent photos and the company says the damage is superficial. Our carpenter says it looks like some of the doors have been dropped and the damage is not normal "fluffiness" from the door stripping process, as the company claims.
- After sending an email setting out all of these issues, I received an inappropriate phone call from Viktor as detailed above. He began with a raised voice and talked continuously for a couple of minutes. I asked if he was finished and then said I wouldn't be spoken to in that way and ended the phone call. I reported the phone call to the company with no response.
- I was told the manager would be back from holiday yesterday and so could action the refund. I called and asked when the manager would be back. After not getting a proper response and asking several times, I was hung up on.
- I sent an email again asking for my refund and a response about the damage. The company still deny the damage and have said "your refund will be processed once the accounts department releases the funds. This may take up to 15 working days." They still haven't confirmed that the funds have been released or when they will be.
- I have tried emailing and then calling for clarification about when the refund will be sent, but after saying who I was, they hung up on me.
- Now that they aren't answering the phone to me, I'm at a loss at how to get the refund I'm due (let alone a response about the damage to my doors).

I was nervous having looking at the reviews after I had sent the doors off to this company but received the doors in just over a week and I have no complaints, now they're ready to be sanded and painted just need to wait for them to dry! They did a total of 3 doors, no regrets.
Sent two doors to be stripped
Sent two doors to be stripped, was given a timescales of 1-2 weeks but it took 5 weeks. Now I have them back they are really damp, like they’ve been left outside. The wood is spongy so trying to dry them out in the hope they are ruined. Avoid this company.

Same company, different trading names BEWARE!
This company uses several different trading names and websites. When looking at the phone numbers they all match so be carefully who you deal with.
I sent several doors and shutters to be stripped. They were collected and delivered back in two weeks, so no problem with that.
However there is still thick paint on all the corners and crevices. I would expect to receive them paint free as that is what I paid for. The paint being no doubt lead paint, I now have to finish the job myself to get them to satisfactory standard.
The company, this time trading as Surrey Door Stripping, but sending emails as First Door Stripping hasn't responded to my request to rectify the poor standard of which the goods were returned.
They also said payment in cash but after calling them said I can pay by card. I will be contacting my bank no doubt to claim money back for job not finished properly.
So not as bad experience as some others, but they certainly have not finished the job to satisfactory standard at all. I would not waste my time and money if I was you. Check the details of the company in before hand though, as likely to be these same people.
DO NOT USE - THEY STOLE MY DOORS
Capital Door Stripping collected, from my home, 3 Edwardian pine doors to be stripped.
Immediately it became impossible to contact Capital Door Stripping as they did not return my calls or my emails.
Eventually after months, I emailed them to say that I just want my doors returned or i would be taking the matter further.
The "manager" then contacted me to say they had "lost" 2 of my doors. I emailed to request compensation and again could not contact anyone to discussed being reimbursed for my doors which had been stolen by Capital Door Stripping.
1 Door was returned - its not mine. It was unsanded and wet.
I have not received a single penny for the two solid pine Edwardian doors that Capital Door stripping stole.
Capital Door Stripping pretend they are a local company but they are not - you will find a website for every city but if you ask for an address, they refuse to give you one. They are scammers and thieves.

We had a fantastic experience with Capital Doors! From the start - responsive, polite, and patient, answering all our questions with great attention to detail.
The quality of their work was outstanding—five beautiful 1930s doors, carefully dipped, sanded, waxed, and expertly reinstalled, all at a very fair price.
The estimated turnaround was two weeks, but they were flexible when we asked for a week extension to ensure our door frames were ready. Their willingness to accommodate made the process even smoother.

Doors came back *damaged*
Doors came back *damaged*, I’ll have to re-sand annd repair myself. They’re also only partially stripped, an attempt hadn’t even been made on some areas. I showed the damage to the driver and was just met with a shrug. DONT send your furniture here!
What a disaster
What a disaster! I emailed them for a quote to dip/strip three internal doors. They quickly replied with the quote and collection date which they held to. They assured me the completed doors would be delivered within two weeks. They did not deliver as promised. I emailed. No response. I called and the manager requested a confirm the number of doors collected. I confirmed it was three doors. The following week, the driver arrived and brought three doors into my house. However, one was not my door. I had sent two glass pane doors. Only one was returned. The driver said it must be at the warehouse and he would deliver it within two weeks. I again emailed and called to confirm when the door was not delivered. I was given a real run around and promised feedback but nothing came. They requested I send a photo of the door which I did. By this time I was quite suspicious. Last week they called to say the driver said he only collected two doors and not three. A complete lie! I provided ample proof that three doors were collected. She promised to follow up and get back to me. Now she is not responding to emails and hung up on my yesterday once she realised who I was. I called several times after, leaving messages with people and on the voice mail. Nothing! I wish I had read the reviews before I contacted them. This is awful behaviour and I will be reporting them.
Don’t use this company
Don’t use this company. I experienced everything and more that the other negative reviews report. Don’t have the energy to go into detail but suffice to say that I had to take my furniture to the tip after they had finished with it.
Please use someone else
Period door stripping picked up my door on 26th Feb 2025. I wasn’t given a timeline so on the 3rd March I emailed the team to ask when the doors would be finished. We were told the doors wouldn’t be ready until 12th. However we asked for them to be delivered on the 19th or 26th instead and the 26th was agreed.
We heard nothing more on the matter until the 26th started to approach and again we reached out to ensure the delivery would go ahead like we discussed and crickets. We rang, we emailed days before for no answer. Finally, we get ahold of the team on the 26th to be told they will be delivered on the 27th, then they’ll be delivered on 29th because they weren’t dipped properly and needed to be dried and resanded to be told they’ll be delivered on 31st.
Disappointedly,we asked several questions.
1. Why were the doors just checked on the week they needed to be delivered when you’ve had them for a month ?
We were told that it had only been noticed that the doors weren’t up to standard and needed further work. The guy I spoke to then said he was doing us a “favour” by redoing them.
2. I then went on to ask why we hadn’t been updated or contacted ?
They had no answer and highlighted that the individual who I had been speaking to via email no longer works for the company. Though to this day I am still receiving emails from his account.
The 27th, 29th and 31st came and went with no update or info. I advised while on the phone that it the doors aren’t delivered by 29th then we will need to reschedule another date so please keep me updated.
On the 1st April we received a text that the doors will be delivered where I called the team back and rescheduled for 16th April. It was confirmed via email and I also sent a complaint to the manager on the 2nd.
With no response I called the company over the next two weeks until I happened to call and finally speak to the manager who advised she hadn’t “seen” the email. However, she had sent over the pictures of the doors, the account details for the final payment transfer, a note that the funds needed to be deposited before delivery and a new compensated rate.
We also received an email confirming we would be delivered to on the 16th as agreed.
Well it is now the 16th and you guessed it no doors.
I called on the 15th to confirm before submitting the payment to be advised that the doors will be delivered on Thursday due to a driver accident. I asked who they advised of this change to which they had no answer for and repeated that they had to move everything to another day and if I had an issue I should complain !
So this morning the 16th I called to speak to the manager and asked for confirmation that the doors would be delivered by 11 am on the 17th as we would need to leave after that. She said she doesn’t know and can’t confirm until 3pm today IF our doors will be delivered.
I asked what the plan B will be regarding this to which she hung up the phone and has avoided my calls since.
To conclude
We will see if the doors will be delivered tomorrow.
I wouldn’t recommend them considering they have cost me more money by pushing back working and making other people available for the delivery than the cost of the doors.
I’ve seen several similar reviews suggest reporting them to citizens advice and the ombudsman which I thought was OTT but I wholeheartedly understand why now and maybe joining them
