Excellent product. Appreciated the installer referred by the company. Be sure to use snow guards as the shakes are much more slippery and the snow will come off the roof in substantial batches.

Custom home on long Island Sound
This product was a perfect solution for a situation where budget engineering was a must. Enviroshake was able to answer all our questions quickly and efficiently. Samples were easy to acquire, product arrived on time, install was quick, and the finished product looks terrific.

Staff were helpful and professional
Staff were helpful and professional and the product seems to be good. I have 4 complaints: 1) Samples (before purchase) had no flash (google "flash plastic injection molding" without the quotes), but delivered product had a lot, and much of it was so BAD, I often felt the need to trim it. Installation instructions did not mention flash. 2) Nailing by hand was extremely difficult to impossible, using a nail gun is the only practical way to install this product, but there was no mention of this in the installation instructions. 3) Installation instructions say hand split the shakes at the keyway. [Quoting the instructions: "If you need to split – this can be accomplished by snapping by hand in a quick motion – or by taking a knife and scoring the crease in the keyway and snapping."] But this did not work, because the keyway sidewalls were a lot thinner than the keyway bottom, where you would want the shake to split. The solution would be to have a mold part for the bottom side that matches the mold part for the top side, so that the keyway sidewalls would be at least as thick as the keyway bottoms. To get around this problem, I gave up trying to hand split the shakes as recommended in the installation instructions, instead I used a table saw to cut the shakes. 4) Ridge caps used over ridge vents should be lower pitch than the actual roof pitch. Information on the product should make clear that it is UP TO THE PURCHASER to order lower pitch roof caps, as staff will forget.

It's great to hear that your experience with our sales and support teams was so good! Thank you for taking the time to give us some candid feedback, as we are continually striving to improve all our processes and channels.
We would like to note that Enviroshake is actually a press-formed product, not an injection-molded one, which sets our manufacturing process apart: most synthetic products are injection-molded. This process and our proprietary formulation offer our products an advantage in terms of superior performance and durability. Our production team does work to remove the extraneous material you noted around our product, but you are correct, it does sometimes still appear on the shakes. However, we are pleased to add that this does not affect the performance or appearance of the product on a roof!
In addition, while our product can be installed by hand or with a nail gun, we certainly do recommend using a nail gun -- you are absolutely correct, as this is far more efficient. This is indicated in our installation guide as follows: "A power-nailer is suitable for use in installation on field shakes but not recommended for caps.” The installation guide also recommends using a circular saw to cut the shakes rather than breaking them by hand: “Shakes must be cut in order to fit properly around vents, in valleys, and beside flashing. Shakes should be cut with a circular saw for straight lines or with a jig saw for curves.”
You are also correct about ridge caps and ridge vents. We do have a policy that ridge caps being installed over ridge vents should be ordered a size smaller than the slope. On our material quote form, we state the following: "If using ridge vents, make sure to order ridge caps one size lower than the slope.” We sincerely apologize that this was not made clearer throughout the ordering process and caused you difficulty during the install.
We hope that our remarks here will help shed some light on some of the inconveniences you experienced. Five year later and still happy
After a lot of research, we had our entire roof done with Enviroshake shingles five years ago because of important raccoon damage to our previous roof. Not only does the product look great it has kept all animals away. Worth the investment.

The product is fantastic
The product is fantastic. We just had an issue with the estimation of how much product we needed &, as such, we were short. I believe the estimator did not take into account the extra row needed to start the first course. Otherwise, we're perfectly happy with Enviroshake.

While many of our clients do provide precise measurements of their roofs or the quantities of product they wish to order to us directly, we also offer estimating services. Our estimation formulae consider the material necessary for starter rows with a 10% waste allotment, but these do remain estimates alone. We also ask contractors we are working with to sign off on the final amount as well to help minimize any potential misestimation, but our estimates are generally quite spot on! There may be discrepancies if roofs are more complex, involving more waste and cutting.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience misestimation caused you but are thrilled to hear that your roof has been serving you well otherwise. Great roofing for a restoration project
Now that my roof is on I’m very happy with it . There were a few problems in the process of receiving the materials but other than that I’m pleased with the roof . I’d recommend it to someone who was interested in a synthetic roof . It looks really nice .

This product is fantastic
This product is fantastic, our roofers were great, and we have had no complaints. The price is a little steep, but may be worth it in the long run, time will tell. Insurance rates dropped considerably, so that was a bonus. Great idea, as well!
