Son had a great time here! Met great people and loved the various classes / activities

My son has officially aged out of explo. It was a wonderful experience for him.

Entering as an awkward middle schooler with other awkward middle schoolers and coming home an independent changed young man was AMAZING to see. His father and I were sold the day he came home. So much confidence and growth in one 3 week session.
This last year was bitter sweet. He met friends from his very first session and he knew it would be his last. He kept saying "mom, I'm famous" 😂 he made friends and he's still talking to them via phone to this day.

Explo allowed him to explore activities that i wouldn't have normally guessed he'd be interested in. Who knew my kid loved comedy enough to take it as a course!! We randomly took improv last year and he kept it going at camp and loved it!

I tell everyone about explo. The amount of growth for not only him as a child but it's as parents was great. And there wasn't a safer space he could be in. Forget grateful to my professor friend who let me know about this random camp at her university 2000 miles away from our home.

It changed us for the better.

it was okay we were able to do a lot of fun things but the curfew was really early and we also had to get up early. A lot of fun activites like carnival night was canceled and i was really upset about it. Also there were way too many check ins and it was too long. Also for town time they cancelled one of krackens and wolfs town time which was really unfair. Then they said everyone would get a chance to go to town and then when everyone was lining up after like 35 people they said no more spots and my generous friend gave me her spot because she lives in Boston.

Food, Team and Organization should be improving a little

The summer camp run down and design is good. The Explo contact window and team members were very responsive. It is a pity that the medical focus program was fully booked this time.

All the advisers were really nice and incredibly helpful and supportive

Our son came back with lots of new knowledge and enthusiasm about the subjects. He said everything other than pickup was fun (more on that below).

Organization as a whole was sub par. For as long as this program has been running they should understand how pickup and dismissal will run. Talk with Linx and Tenacre about how they run pickup. Super organized. Early dismissals and rainy/hot days were not handled well. According to my son everything ended at 4 (pickup is at 5:30, he couldn’t walk home until 5:15) and the counselors had just the day kids waiting for an hour in a room waiting for pickup. Not a great use of time. If you can’t schedule something for them to do while they wait then make pickup ealier. Also, the residential kids got to hang out wherever.

The counselors/Advisors were fantastic. But the schedule was constantly changing and the summer heat wasn't that bad, but we had to walk (in the "terrible" heat) across campus from dinner to our sleeping spot.

My daughter attended the medical rotations camp. She learned how to suture, practiced laparoscopy at a simulation lab and much more. She was able to experience what being a doctor would really be, it was very exciting for her and further ignited her passion for medicine. The program takes the middle schoolers seriously and gives them opportunities that because of their age, usually would not be possible.

What a wonderful experience! This is a camp where you can trust your pre-teen/teen will be safe, learn to spread their wings and experience more of life! The staff are attentive and encourage your child to push themselves socially and academically! My daughter finished the camp and immediately was interested in signing up again

I am writing this review as a warning to other parents of non-neurotypical children: my son underwent psychological abuse at this camp because they did not understand his quirks. Some of the staff, who are untrained in working with non-neurotypical kids, took it upon themselves to assess and “help” my child. They also ignored his concerns about the way discipline was handled at camp, and redirected his thoughts to how his concerns might be due to his history of depression and anxiety. The whole experience was a nightmare.
My son loved this camp with all his heart in his first week there. He felt he had ‘found his people’; other nerdy kids who were passionate about science. That all changed as he began to see injustices in the way discipline was managed, which he is very sensitive to. He is the kind of kid that has a deep drive to know why adults make the decisions they make, and even though he is only 12 he has a mature ability to understand these things when they are explained to him. The fact that his concerns were redirected and blamed on his diagnoses is abuse. After an initial incident involving this, he was seen as a ‘problem’ by some of the camp staff, who ended up perpetrating even more egregious abuse later in his camp experience.
Please learn from my mistakes. I do not want anyone else’s child to undergo the experiences that mine went through. The whole thing breaks my heart.

We can't say enough great things about EXPLO. My son attended for three summers and each year he couldn't wait to go back. The program offers a wonderful balance of learning and exploring classes, fun activities on the weekends and allowing the kids to have down time to just explore the campus/town. From drop off to pick up the program ran smoothly and we received photos and updates of the kids throughout the time they were there. 5 stars all the way!

My son attended EXPLO for 5 summers and his experience each time consisted of a variety of in depth and memorable moments. He made new friends and did so many interesting activities. It is a testament to the program that we were a repeat family traveling from Los Angeles each summer. As a parent I know this program prepared him for applying to colleges and eased him into the college experience - thank you to your team and many talented and dedicated staff - Los Angeles parent and UCSB Chemistry major!

the kids loved every minute they were there. They met new friends from around the world, shared all the interesting stories, stretched themselves to try new things! We can't say enough good things about this camp!

Out-of-the ordinary wrkshops to explore interests outside what is usually offered in High School.
Great care with excellent Residential Advisors : fun and serious at the same time, assuring older students can enjoy more independance.
The management team at the camp communicated very warmly and regularly - a truly professional team!
Our son loved it.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her time at explo. In the Biomedical Engineering program she was able to work on suture technique, she modeled a cartilage knee replacement as well as used the robotic equipment to mimic surgery. She was also able to make lifelong friends through the program and can't wait to try medical rotations next year.

This program was amazing and has furthered her passion to pursue medicine as this is just the tip of the iceberg.

My daughter's experience with EXPLO at Wellesley was phenomenal. She loved the campus, the weekend activities, the staff, and the other students. She became friends with students from all around the world. Her three weeks with EXPLO were the best three weeks of her life!

My daughter had an amazing time in England. It was a once in a lifetime experience!
