A great choice as a backup (e)SIM

I’ve used a Flexifone data-only eSIM for a couple of months now, for my iPhone 15 Pro, with my main SIM being on O2 with unlimited data.
After I’d worked out a few iOS settings (e.g. Settings > Mobile Data > Primary > Allow Data Switching > [on]), it works very well as a backup.
If using Flexifone eSIM as a backup/fallback to your main carrier - like I do - you can also choose to disable your main/primary network via the Flexifone app, ensuring that you’ll always switch to an alternative in case of loss of signal.
The only snag with the whole setup is that O2 network capacity problems mean that often the phone will show a “good signal” - e.g. three bars 5G - yet my apps will be starved of *actual data*!
It’s really frustrating and in such circumstances, I’ve found the solution is to temporarily switch to my Flexifone eSIM as primary data SIM in my phone’s settings.
I understand this is a limitation of the way iPhones determine when to switch networks/SIMs rather than a Flexifone problem, but I wish it was completely seamless.
The good news is that Flexifone support is amongst the best customer support that I’ve ever encountered.
I submitted a feature request for their app - out of business hours, via WhatsApp - and got a response very quickly within a few minutes. Their support staff were polite, friendly, and best of all: Flexifone implemented my feature request within 15 days of me submitting the suggestion/request!
If only all companies were as friendly and responsive to their customers - the support alone goes a long way to compensate for the niggles with automatic SIM/network switching. :)

Exceptional, personal service and brilliant network coverage!

I cannot praise the team at FlexiFone enough for how they sorted out my recent account query. I needed an urgent, non-standard change to my plan setup, moving from a data-only service to a voice and data package.
Instead of giving me a rigid corporate answer or automated responses, their customer support team listened to what I needed and showed genuine empathy. They coordinated directly with their internal engineering team to manage my special request, and went completely out of their way to make sure the transition was completed smoothly.
On top of the fantastic customer care, the actual network reliability is flawless. As an HGV driver spending long hours out on the road, having a dependable connection is vital. I never lose signal with this SIM, even when I am driving deep out in the country.
In a world where most mobile providers treat you like a number, FlexiFone stands out by offering top-tier network coverage alongside a genuinely personal service. I highly recommend them!

It just works!

Trips to Wales often lead to patchy coverage, with no one network covering all locations. I'm with Vodafone, so grabbed Flexifone's annual data only eSIM for £45 for the year.

After downloading the eSIM, I had to make a couple of changes by manually setting the APN and enabling data roaming. My Z Fold 6 allows me to set the second SIM as an automatic data backup.

After this, it worked perfectly! As soon as I lose my data connection with Vodafone, data switches to my Flexifone backup automatically.

I was able to use car park apps where Vodafone has no signal, and could even start my EV charging from a car park in the middle of nowhere where only EE has a signal. I also managed to make a WhatsApp video call in an area where Vodafone had no service.

5GB data per month is also plenty for a backup SIM, and is a much better option than Honest Mobile in my opinion. Whilst their data is unlimited, only selected apps work whereas with Flexifone, I can use anything!

Definitely recommended 👍

Terrible

Terrible. It takes so long to change network and even then the connection, both data and phone, is awful. Better to stick with one provider.

Hi Sean,

Automatic network switching only kicks in when you completely lose signal and on some occasions you will need to manually switch between networks from your device settings.

It's also important to note that network switching capability is dependent on your device (it will work better on the latest iPhone, Samsung or Pixel compared to older Android device due to its chipset).

This is the case with all Multi-Network SIMs, regardless of the provider.

Very disappointed don't waste your money

Very disappointed. It works okay-ish in the UK, but that’s where the positives end. It clearly states the eSIM can be used across Europe, including Gibraltar and Spain, but for me it was a complete waste of time. I was unable to get any connection whatsoever in either location, while my giffgaff SIM worked flawlessly throughout. I bought the Flexifone SIM as a backup for the 5G roaming limit, but it failed when I actually needed it. Extremely frustrating and not fit for the purpose advertised.

I apologize for your experience, please note that we provide access to multiple networks in Spain (Movistar, Orange, Vodafone) and you can select whichever one you want manually from your device's settings. Also, you can use upto 25 GB of your Data whilst abroad post which your Mobile Data stops working.
