Have visited GigaFix a number of times…

Have visited GigaFix a number of times for different issues. They have always been very helpful and never overcharged and sometimes have given valuable help with no charge at all. I would always go back there for any Phone or computer problem I can't sort myself.

Super friendly and helpful

Super friendly and helpful! When my laptop stopped charging, I took it to the shop and was in and out within 10 minutes having identified the charging cable as the problem, and being sold a reasonably priced replacement. Would definitely recommend!

Not Recommended: Misleading Battery Replacement by GiGaFix

Highly disappointed and really can’t recommend this business. My MacBook Pro had an issue with the internal battery, so I had it replaced by GiGaFix. I paid the high price of £250 because GiGaFix assured me that the battery they were installing was a genuine Apple part (which is known to be far better and longer-lasting than counterfeit alternatives).
About a year later, when the battery started showing signs of weakening, I took my computer to the Apple Store in Covent Garden to have it checked. It turned out the battery GiGaFix had installed was not an Apple genuine part but a cheap counterfeit — the kind you can find for around £30 on Amazon — and typically only lasts about a year. As a result, I had to spend another £250 for a proper replacement.
I complained to GiGaFix, and while they acknowledged that the issue came from their battery supplier, they did not offer any form of compensation.
I don’t necessarily think GiGaFix is a dishonest business, but I do believe they lack experience with Apple computers and are easily misled by third-party suppliers. If you have an issue with your Apple device, I strongly recommend going to an Apple-authorized repair center to avoid wasting time and money as I did.

Honest and helpful - recommended!

Excellent and, importantly, honest service. Andrew is friendly and very helpful. He could have charged me to repair my iPad, but recommended against it because of the risk of damage and the age of the iPad. I really appreciated that and will go back to him in the future with any problems with my Apple products.

Excellent service fixing a faulty printer

Gigafix sorted a couple of problems with my faulty printer. They were professional and very friendly and their communication was great - being clear about their costs up front and updating me on what the issues were as they encountered them. I'll definitely be using them again for any tech problems I have.

Missing RAMs! A False diagnosis of Water Damage! Would have given negative stars if had the option

Well it deserves stars in the negative but unfortunately I do not have that option. I had visited GigaFix with my laptop when it suddenly stopped working. They told me that there was a water damage. I had to pay an exorbitant amount of £160 for just the assessment and a "supposed" attempt to get it restarted and a transfer of data to my hard disk (for which they had copied my data on their system without explicitly letting me know that to ensure transfer on hard disk my data needs to be copied onto their computer; I believed a temporary external casing of the SSD could do the same, but anyways). I did not go ahead with a "repair" which would apparently need a complete replacement of my motherboard because they charged me exorbitant prices.So they told me that there was nothing else that could be done. Believing that the laptop was as good as scrap, I still decided to get it checked once when I visit India (it was an Indian HP laptop which was just a year old). I recently visited India and had THE shock of my life. When I went to a repair shop in India, they opened my laptop IN FRONT OF MY EYES and showed that the RAMs (two 4 GB premium RAMs) were missing AND there was no water damage!!!! They even put a spare RAM to show this too me and my laptop started working just fine. I was told that sometimes a loose RAM can cause the laptop to stop and can be fixed simply by removing and placing the RAM back tightly into the designated slots. I had not opened the laptop even once between the time of me bringing it back from GigaFix (neither before I visited GigaFix after it stopped working) to the time I took it to the repair shop in India so very clearly my RAM had gone missing at GigaFix AND I was charged a rubbish amount for a "supposed" non-existent water damage "diagnosis." So if you want to actually salvage your devices and save yourself bucks, DO NOT GO TO GIGAFIX!!!

Almost Non-existent Labour Warranty

Almost Non-existent Labour Warranty - Refused Responsibility For Previous Poor Quality Repair

The GigaFix in Oxford, UK has done two screen replacements on my wife’s iPhone 11, the most recent one in September 2024. They didn’t do the repair properly but also failed to tell me that their standard practice is to NOT replace the water resistant seal when they repair an iPhone. If I had known this, I would have taken it elsewhere for repair. They also didn’t tell me their labour warranty is only 1 month.

Two days ago, my wife was sitting on the sofa and accidentally dropped her phone onto a rug covered floor. The phone is in a high quality Tech21 case.

Because GigaFix’s standard practice omits the water resistant seal, which is a very strong double sided adhesive and also possibly didn't get the two pentalobe screws on the bottom edge of the phone through the holes in the new screen they’re supposed to go through, the screen popped off of the phone and tore all three ribbon cables.

I went in today to get it fixed and was informed that their labour is only warranted for one month. A screen replacements costs £70 and I asked the guy to quote a battery replacement, which he said is £60. He then proceeded to explain how bad a job the previous repair was, showing me remnants of black double sided sealing tape in a few spots and none in other spots (I was already aware of this). His shop did both of the previous repairs and he did the most recent one himself, so he was admitting to his own poor workmanship.

He said this screen problem is considered accidental damage and he is not required to do anything to help me. A discussion of Trading Standards ensued in which he first said nobody ever took them to Trading Standards, but then conceded that people have done so, but he claims nobody has ever been successful. I was gobsmacked by his smugness about this. He said it will cost you a lot more than just paying for the repair.

He offered a £35 reduction due to the lack of putting a seal in last time. I asked if he would add a seal this time and he said yes, but insisted they usually don't keep water out if the phone gets wet. I’m mainly interested in the screen not popping off again though. He also said that even when the pentalobe screws go through the holes in back of the screen, you can still pop the screen off. Whilst that may be true, it's very hard to do it when a properly installed water resistant seal is in place. Just watch the How to Replace an iPhone 11 Screen Video at iFixit.co.uk to see that you have to apply heat and use suction cup pliers and prying tools to get an iPhone case open!

I decided to take it to a different repair shop whose price quote was lower than GigaFix, even with the £35 concession they offered. When I got there, I was told the speaker ribbon cable was torn so the upper speaker has to be replaced. GigaFix didn’t even notice this nor tell me it needed to be replaced. He didn't price quote it either. The other shop, Repair My Phone Today has a 12 month parts and labour warranty by the way.

People over profit

I have used Gigafix several times now. They are an honest, friendly and professional company with a genuine interest in helping customers. This time they fixed my broken iphone screen protector for free as a complementary service when my replacement camera part took a while to arrive, even though the delay was due to a problem at the supplier's end and not their fault. Gigafix also have a strong environmental ethos, retaining plastic packaging for re-use. I 100% recommend them.
