I used Hewitson and Harker for my sale and purchase on the recommendation of a family member who also had a great experience with the firm. My conveyancer, Amy, and her assistant, Samantha, handled both transactions for me- with final completion of our house today.
As an autistic person, I found the legal jargon and the process for both the sale and purchase daunting and at times overwhelming. However, they did a phenomenal job explaining things to me- even when I asked the same questions repeatedly! They were always happy to go through things over the phone when I needed more information, and they even helped support me emotionally when there was undue pressure from my buyer and their solicitor for a completion date when our onward was still not ready.
The sale of my flat was complex, involving challenges with the building landlords and management company, as well as a Help to Buy scheme. Meanwhile, the purchase of our house was frustratingly long due to outstanding enquiries for my seller's onward purchase. We ultimately ended up breaking the chain by proceeding with the sale and waiting for completion.
Despite feeling like there was a stumble at every hurdle, I received phenomenal guidance from both of them while they worked hard to keep the process moving as quickly as possible. Sometimes things were quiet, but whenever we asked, they always had progress updates or helped me understand what was left to do. That really helped my neurodiverse brain conceptualise the timeline, and it gave me great trust that they were working hard behind the scenes. Sometimes we felt like we were bugging them by chasing for updates, but I think that is a very common feeling when progress feels slow.
I am so thankful for these lovely ladies. I would gladly recommend them and use them again if I ever need solicitor services in the future!

Efficient and professional service

Amazing job
Absolutely amazing experience with Hewitson and Harker, we had Emily helping us with our move after our last solicitors messed everything up, Emily took our case on quick and made sure me and my partner was always in the loop with everything going on and that we understood it all with this been our first property. They had us completed really fast too and were always there and happy to communicate with us. Excellent service
We couldn't recommend Emma Loh highly enough! Our property purchase wasn't the most straightforward, but she was amazing from start to finish. She was always efficient, kept everything moving, and really went above and beyond to make sure we met our completion deadline.
Emma was always quick to respond, kept us updated throughout the whole process, and made what could have been a very stressful experience feel so much more manageable.

Hewitson and Harker not recommended…
Hewitson and Harker were recommended for less straight forward property issues. We first contacted them in October 2025. Communication was poor to non existent other than through the automated portal. We finally instructed a new solicitor in May 2026 when we were told that Hewitson and Harker had ‘disinterested’ them selves from our matter. The new solicitor completed the task in less than two months.
I tried to use the complaints procedure on the Hewitson and Harker website. My letter has been returned by Royal Mail as ‘gone away’ from the complaints address.

We had a very positive experience
We had a very positive experience with the solicitors, who were professional throughout the entire process. Amy and Sam were always available whenever needed and made the buying process much easier. It felt like they really knew what they were doing, which gave us a lot of confidence from start to finish.

On the whole a positive experience. Initially I found all the uploading of documents etc frustrating and time consuming. When a problem occurred Chelsea was helpful, walked me through it and let me have a meltdown!
I predominantly was kept up to date with emails then phone calls when necessary to verify. Thanks to the team in completing the sale of my home.

unqualified assistants working “on behalf of”
Seemed to work through an unqualified assistant “on behalf of” an actual solicitor. Didn’t sent to have any sense of haste, or any consideration for neurodivergence when sending 16 different documents without explaining what they were or which ones they needed back. Insisted on my techno-phobic grandparents using an App to verify their identity and upload all their person information to, and then insisted that I sent certain things by post, and couldn’t e-sign. Like… Pick a lane! Poor service. Poor efficiency. Stuck in their ways.

To clarify, all of our fee earners work alongside experienced legal assistants as part of a team. This enables matters to progress efficiently, with the supervising fee earner remaining responsible for your file throughout the transaction.
We also appreciate that not everyone is comfortable using digital technology. While we do offer an online ID verification service, this is not the only option available. Where clients are unable to use the app, we are happy to offer alternative methods, including arranging for identification to be certified by a local solicitor or other suitable professional. We always aim to work with our clients to find the most appropriate solution.
We are sorry that our communication and processes did not meet your expectations. We value all feedback and will take your comments on board as we continue to review and improve the service we provide.
