Imgur used to be a great website, but somehow it has turned into a nasty place where people get bullied for their political leanings (by left-wing bigots). A lot of nasty toxic posts get upvoted and anyone who disagreed gets downvoted. Just an example of a comment that was left for me lol "If these comments seem toxic to you, then you are probably a plague rat and the poison is meant for you anyway."

This website has gone to s**t.

I joined and I was a member for about 3 months. I posted a lot of content and a lot of my material went viral and I gained various accolades and awards, but the hard part was dealing with what seemed like the majority of users there... which in my opinion were the drecks of society. I've never had contact with so many people who complained simply because you posted a video clip with music, even though the clip when it was published would already be muted and if you wanted to hear the sound all you had to do was unmute. But no they felt like they had to warn everybody else by posting the 'do not unmute' sign or tell everybody not to unmute the sound. Even though I replied to these complainers and told them my rationalization which is that I felt everybody should have a choice to whether they wanted to listen to the sound or not and no one else should dictate or take that choice away from them. In addition there are a lot of nasty, ugly people there that gave me a hard time and when I stood up to them and gave it right back to them suddenly I gained a reputation as being a bit*h and a very ugly person and even one user there called me the dreaded 'c' word which most women hate. They also hated any post or sharing of a post which came from TikTok. And most of the time will downvote your post simply because it's from that SM site. In addition there is so much rudeness and insensitivity there which just tells me the intelligence level of most of these trolls and the person that called me the c word, that was the straw that broke the camel's back and I decided enough is enough and I deleted my account.

The website claims to be safe but constantly there are posts of pornstars, nearly nude women and disgusting comments following. If you have any differing opinion, political, scientific or otherwise you will be ridiculed by the community and insulted no matter what. The entire staff including Alan and Sara are complete gutter trash or play favorites on topics and users. The website screams elitism but I guess that shouldn't surprise anybody seeing as it's based in San Francisco. Do yourself a favor and stay away. No scratch that run away, fast and far. If you thought Reddit was toxic you haven't seen nothing yet.

The website is full of disgusting alt left propaganda biased towards Marxist ideology & identity politics. Christians are vilified and are basically portrayed as the worse people alive. Capitalism is horrible and there are numerous misinformation memes & articles against Conservative politics. And if you try to comment against it, you are down voted into oblivion and banned from commenting further. This website represents everything wrong with the USA (world) today. And I'm Canadian. Absolutely disgusting site which is the definition of hate. But as a Conservative I believe in free speech so I don't believe in shutting the website down.
But I can tell you that the people running this site are blocking free speech from the right.

This is no mistake. Many users have quit using the site or never use it to engage with the community. In all honesty who can blame them? You can look at all of the other reviews here about the website, while many are low effort, they ring some truth with very similar accounts.

Not every post/image is about politics thankfully, but many are. If you do not share the same beliefs & opinions you will be treated as a plagued outcast to be ridiculed & shamed. Do not go looking for any political discussions that don't lean heavily left here because you will not find it before it's beaten down or removed outright.

I had used Imgur for many years for all of the memes for my enjoyment, which many other users I'm sure had as well. There was many a slow going night that browsing Imgur helped pass the time when it was far less political as it has become now.

Imgur Storytime: Leaving A Literal Leftist Cult

So back in May of 2020 as things were heating up towards the tail end of the Presidential election, I was posting lots of rage filled and hateful comments and post against anyone and everyone that dared support Donald Trump. I hated Trump for lots of reasons even before the election. Mainly because I believed then and still believe now that he a sexist, bigoted, racist bully. So, because of my strong stance against Trump and the MAGA Cult and my visibility on Imgur I was recruited, yes recruited to an Imgur Leftist community on Discord. As you can see in the Imgur Chat boxes, of which I left out my and the recruiters’ usernames for privacy they were gathering as many Imgur users as possible into this Liberal/Leftist only Discord group with the sole purpose of essentially taking over Imgur for the Democratic/Left Leaning/Liberal ideology and boy was I all for it.

I did join up their little army and I participated in a community that at one point had about 50-60 (last I was a part of it) very active members that would browse User sub for anything at all they didn't agree with, share on the Discord so they can all attack in downvoting so posts don't get traction and see the front page and they would leave their hate comments, baiting OP's into saying something they could use to submit as going against the Imgur community guidelines to get anyone they didn't agree with banned. And boy did this stuff work. I mean, I alone must have gotten at least 20-30 user accounts banned and I know that with this Discord community they would get at least a few a day banned, and nothing even related to Trump/Conservatives/Republicans even sees the light of day on Imgur today, so they are very active still today and very affective.

I enjoyed being part of this Discord because I too wanted Trump gone and the Democrat's back in power. But I promised myself that I would stop the nonsense after the election if Trump lost and he did. Ha-Zah! But I didn't, I was as hateful and vengeful as ever because I was lead believe the idea that Trump is still a treat, so we essentially still needed to be jerks to anyone who agrees with Trump on Imgur. But after a while I grew tired of it. I felt I and this Discord community were becoming just as bad as the MAGA community, so I left. Wish I would have taken some screenshots while I was part of it for more evidence, but I never thought they would turn against me. But that's exactly what they did. I left a single comment, that they didn't like. A single comment that went against their leftist ideology. (I'm not a Dem/Repub/or anything) This single comment led them to then gang up against me, like they do so many others and now even with all my anti-Trump posts, I am the enemy. They downvoted all my comments and posts to hell and even worked together to get my account banned which Imgur seemed happy to do very quickly. Now I knew what it felt like to experience the hateful vitriol of this so-called liberal community that acted like it cared so much about America. And I'm just so over it. I'm done. I'm done with the hate, I'm done with the harassment, I'm done with the abuse. I've truly seen and experienced now why the divide is so great in this country. We are at each other’s throats, playing this game and its disgusting. All while Imgur seems to stand by and let it happen. Because if you really pay attention to the comments of those that attack anyone on the right, they sure don't comply with Imgur’ s community guidelines. Yell, I think that's enough story. I'm sure this will get downvoted to hell and I'll get called a liar, MAGAet, Incel, faker, etc. And they'll work to get this off imgur and yes, new account banned. Maybe they'll even try to put my original account on blast, which will only prove my point of the existence of the Leftist Discord that they unironically titled "Deep State". I still like Imgur and want to be a part of the community, but done with being a part of the political side and hate seeing that there is so much hate being spread within it.

imgur.com is a censorship platform unless you are a supporter of, not liberal, but hard left extremist ideas, groups, cults, and followings.

There is no down the middle. They promote hate for anything that isn't a, again not liberal, nor democrat, but a HARD left extremism. They are one of the reasons America is getting very tired of it, and a big reason why people are leaving the democratic party and why we will get another horrible president like trump.

I am a democrat and this website disgusts me with how they promote such lies and dangerous material. They are trying to program the youth to trust ideas and beings that have no fact other than a entertainment industry of "news" wrote it on their website or displayed it on TV.

I discovered the site was funded by millionaire investment bankers.

Occasionally linked to funny animal memes on Imgur from external pages. One day decided to look around for more hilarious animals and within 30 minutes, realized I'd stumbled upon one of the most vile echo chambers I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. I'll never go back. I'm no fan of the GOP but I was stunned by the rabid hatred and blatant totalitarian leftist political bias in the vast majority of posts on this site. Most of it is not humorous, but just downright disturbing in a Maoist/Stalinist sort of way!

Biased as hell. I remember when Imgur was a method to escape with lots of laughs. Now you can't even express your own opinions without getting flagged. I mean seriously, even as a Democrat, I can't handle all of the hate-shaming and villainizing against Republicans and conservatives. The political bias is just too much for even me to handle.

This use to be a fun site years ago until the “Left” slowly creeped in and spewed there vile left wing propaganda all over it. I wouldn’t let anyone under the age of 18 on this, but if your not left wing then you probably know that already. I’d say 70% is bots pushing left wing propaganda and 20% is left wing followers/kids who have been brainwashed, the other 10% are just normal people trying to enjoy the site. For me it’s no longer tolerable. Every other post is political hatred towards anyone who challenges their beliefs.

The site supports people which insult you if you dont support their opinion. You have to be a minority and shout as loud as possible so your opinion is right.

Once i critized LBGTQ how they are trying to force people into their believes. BLM is the same, even when you show them studies and statistics they are learn-resistant. If you go into discussions with the users its nearly instantly that you get insulted as racist or other stuff (even when you just mention that you dont support BLM or LGBTQ - didnt know gays are some kind of race)

My posts got deleted because it 'offended' people.

over the years, Imgur has degraded in quality, and that includes quality leadership too.

more and more i keep seeing content which breaks their own rules appearing on the FP (the Front Page, aka the most viral, what’s typically first and foremost for users that access the site without an account, i.e. likely a majority being children);

a couple or so days ago, i made an account to report one of these posts that crossed my way; i typically hope the community takes care of it, but i guess i wanted to help, since you can only report a post if you have an account (wild, right?).

*this breaks their first rule* regarding explicit content; literally spelled out in one of its specifications, it states as not allowing “any depiction of sexual activity, explicit or implied (drawings, print, animated, human, or otherwise)”.

you would think that it wouldn’t even need to be spelled out, the idea that a depiction of three people, completely nude, screwing, is explicit..

i thought so too, but after sending in report after report, the post stayed; even after commenting how it is rule breaking, even with other users agreeing and posting similar comments, moderators kept the post up, and inadequately “addressed” the issue by tagging it as a mature post long after it had gone viral and made the FP.

i have to note how *immensely* inadequate, too, because in their own explanation of what a mature tag means, it states again verbatim, “Sexually explicit content is never allowed on Imgur, even if it's marked as mature”.

It was mind blowing. but, given my hope for communication being able to solve rational, truthful, problems, i opened a separate support ticket, to have it be removed, for the user who posted it to be warned/handled/etc., and to also address how at least one of their moderators are at direct fault.

But, about five hours later, a “Senior Support Specialist” named Martyn, replied; and began by diverting/gaslighting from the issue at hand, immediately going into paragraphs of saying (this is a paraphrase for the sake of brevity but sincerely accurate) “oh I’m so sorry, we try to make sure people aren’t affected badly by ‘mature’ posts; I’ll mark it as so, and you won’t see it in your account anymore because of the ‘mature tag’ since you can opt out of it with an account, don’t worry”, and then went on with the same corporate cheap cologne scent style of communication by attempting to change the topic and asking personal questions as if it was resolved. It was disrespectful, see-through, and patronizing. I literally had to ask in a responding email if they even read my opened support ticket or saw the post, but I quickly realized the truth and cut off contact, saying don’t even bother in replying.

right then and there it became clear to me that Imgur isn’t worried about integrity, even when it comes to their own platform’s rules and distinctions.

And I’m confident in saying Imgur, because to quote them, all the hired moderators “have constant contact throughout the day in a private Slack channel” and must have spent some good deal of time in those five hours discussing the foolish mental gymnastics to respond with to express their willful sickening hypocrisy and ignorance.

Basically, anyone who cares about their children, about logic and common empathy and has self respect, look elsewhere for content.

myself, I cut the cord on Imgur, after the near decade of frequenting, after this experience. i had more and more of a feeling over the years of its direction. and Because I care about honesty and clarity, I hope nothing but misfortune on those liars and posers and would be glad to add my thoroughly saved documentation of this illuminating experience to the class action lawsuit that I hope one day blows up in their face.

Stay safe in this digital age of information and remember that there are real people even behind the facade of a screen, and whether it’s for the sake of ego or evil or profit or all the above, it really doesn’t matter, they proved they don’t care whether you or your loved ones are scarred or will be scarred, so have feel no shame in turning your backs on that. I would give it no stars if I could. Why? If you go on the front page its filled with radically political far left content instead of non-political memes and images as it used to be. I even saw one featured on the front page calling for genocide of republicans and conservatives and to "kill all whites". People on here resort to projecting, name calling and downvoting others in the comments sections that don't agree with them and feed off of each others venom. If you aren't a far leftist and are sensible and not into dangerous political propaganda you should avoid this site at all costs.

Unless you enjoy far left wing politics constantly being shoved down your throat and absolutely no allowance for debate imgur is not the place for you. Very rarely do you see funny or entertaining posts. I miss the funny non-pc site that this used to be. Now the average user age is 20 and extremely ignorant and arrogant about literally everything.

The site was once upon a time a great place to discover new popular topics, content, media, people, new games, pop culture memes, etc.

Now it's populated with very toxic individuals, mostly leftists / anarchists and the like. If you say something anyone remotely disagrees with, all of them come out of the woodwork and downvote anything you say into oblivion.

The entire site is a Black Mirror exhibit, attributing all of your credibility and worth to a rating on your profile.

The tragic state of IMGUR is sadly not worth investing in beyond the occasional GIF dump to circumvent the upload limits of Discord and the like.
