I am impressed with the promptness of responses to my inquiries

Not only was the experience of purchasing tickets online seamless, we ended up needing to use RailAid, and had great success with that as well.

I liked the ease of navigating the site and booking our train tickets. I liked that we were able to purchase railaid insurance and they quickly reimbursed us when we needed to cancel our return trip. I didn’t like that it was not stated nor were we informed that since we purchased in advance our seats could be changed which they were. We were in the wrong seats and the Trenitalia conductors gave us our new seat numbers so we had to change seats which was embarrassing and we missed our snack and beverage that was supposed to come with our first class ticket. Also they were very busy when I tried to call them and had to wait for a call back which did occur within about 10 minutes. The representative was very helpful when calling back and apologized that they had heavy call volume.

All communication in English helps a lot. ItaliaRail is also very quick to respond with accurate information. They are really willing to help and that's what they do!

It would not let me make a reservation and would not say why. Just that there was an error.

Got really great service. My questions were answered quickly. I purchased the trip protection on top of my train fares and I was able to make changes to my itinerary without it being stressful. Just makes me even more excited about travel by train in Italy.

Customer service is non existent. Need to change a ticket and I paid extra for the change ale ticket type. Save yourself and book directly thru trenitalia
Update: after 3 days of trying to reach customer service thru every avenue possible (email, social media, phone calls, etc) I finally spoke to a very nice and helpful rep. She resolved my issue. I can not give more than 3 stars tho because the difficulty to get ahold of the customer service when you’re traveling is very stressful. I will also say that not having any way to view your tickets except for the original email they send is a negative. On trenitalia they have an app that keeps track of all of your tickets. The singular one I bought thru Italian rail I had to actually keep screen shots and prints of because you could keep it on an app or in the wallet. Cell service isnt always ideal in rural areas of Italy so not having it collectively with other tickets is a big neg. All in all we got where we needed to be but it was a big hassle to actually change the ticket after paying for the protection to do so. On trenitalia you can just go into the app and change when needed no problem. Not spending three days hoping to speak with customer service for help.

Don't use them

My tickets with them cost $240. With the trenitali.com website, they would have cost $180

My understanding is that years ago they provided a major benefit of allowing you to buy tickets in various currencies. Nowadays you can do that with many credit cards.

If you buy now, all you're paying for is a slightly nicer website and better customer service to call if you have a problem. All the "perks" like refunds you can pretty much get with the core site for much less money.

DO NOT BOOK TRAINS IN ITALY WITH THIS WEBSITE.
We thought this was a reputable way to buy rail tickets. Arrived 40 mins before the train was due to leave to look on the board for the train to not exist!
Queued an hour in the information services area to find out that the track is being worked and italia rail never inform anyone of cancelled trains so they just let you struggle. We are now missing excursions we had booked at our next destination due to having to book the next available train 4.5 hours later than expected.
