Company Admitted in Writing to Mistakes, Bad Planning, and Damaged Work
> I hired JL Closets to build custom closets for over $21,000. They promised a quick 1-to-2-day setup, but the job was left unfinished, damaged, and built incorrectly.
> What Went Wrong:
> * Installed the Wrong Wood Pattern: My signed design required the wood pattern (grain) to run straight up and down. Instead, JL Closets used sideways patterns across the shelves and drawers.
> * Took Full Payment Without Having the Parts: They collected my final payment on day one, pretending they were ready to finish the job. In reality, they didn’t even order my glass mirror doors until two days after starting the work.
> * Damaged the Cabinets During Setup: Workers accidentally drilled holes all the way through the drawer sides and partition panels. Instead of replacing the broken parts, they tried to hide the damage using wood putty.
> * Left Out Key Items: Items in my contract—like safe cabinet locks, drawer locks, and file inserts—were never installed or were left broken.
> * Stopped Communicating: When I sent a formal letter asking them to fix these issues within a specific deadline, they went completely silent.
> What the Company Admitted to in Writing:
> During formal complaint proceedings, JL Closets put it in writing that they:
> * Installed the wrong sideways wood pattern on drawers.
> * Started setup on June 22 without ordering the glass doors until June 24.
> * Delivered damaged, misaligned, and putty-patched parts that need to be fixed.
> Bottom Line:
> Be very careful before paying a deposit. What sales promises you on paper is not what gets delivered to your home.

THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONES!!! THEY ARE NOT WHO THEY REPRESENT!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE/DISGRACEFUL COMPANY!!!

First and foremost, the installation was a complete disaster. They built the bookcase wrong and didn’t put lights at the top per what the contract said and they put all 6 file drawer handles on crooked making them not only look unprofessional but also difficult to use. This alone is unacceptable for a project of this cost. To top it all off, the cabinet doors don’t fit properly because they were cut to the wrong size! This is beyond frustrating and adds to the already mounting list of issues. I am absolutely appalled by the service and quality of work (or lack there of) I received, especially for the exorbitant price of $9,000. The bookshelf is so poorly put together that you can see cracks on every seam and the shelves are not flush with the face of the bookcase.Moreover, the contract clearly stated that lights were to be installed on the top shelves, yet only three out of my four rows of shelving have lights. This oversight is incredibly disappointing and shows a lack of attention to detail. What’s even more frustrating is the timeline. I was promised that the installation would only take one day, complete LIE as here I am, nine days later, still waiting for the job to be completed. They sent only one person to handle the installation, and while I commend his hard work and dedication—he didn’t even take breaks or lunch—it’s disgusting how the company treats its employees. They clearly set unrealistic expectations and fail to provide adequate support for their staff.

The installation dates kept changing, and each time I was left waiting and frustrated. I had to cancel important doctors appointments that took months to get and reschedule a CAT scan because Jl Closets would reschedule installation at 9 PM the night before! I had to empty out my office, unplug my computer, and be without a workspace for over 12 days now when it was supposed to take one day!

On the day of installation, they couldn’t even start because they failed to inform me that I needed to move an outlet. I had to scramble to find an electrician at the last minute, which added even more stress to an already awful situation. When they finally returned the next day, they only brought part of the bookshelf and none of the cabinet doors, drawer fronts or lights because apparently, they hadn’t even been delivered yet!

They didn’t have a clue how to do the lighted shelving at the shop so they passed it on to the installers who also were not qualified to install the lights. Instead of doing it at the shop they were cutting wood in my driveway and didn’t even bother to clean it up so I have shavings all over my driveway and garage door.

To make matters worse, every time I tried to reach out to the company, I could never speak to anyone directly. There's a service that answers the phone, but good luck getting anyone from the office to call you back!

This job is such a disaster that I have contacted my attorney as Jl Closets has $9000 of my money and the job is far from completed. I contacted the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint, but they’re not even reputable enough to be accredited by the BBB!

The lack of professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for both customers and employees is shocking. Save your money and time! There are plenty of reputable closet companies in South Florida that provide excellent customer service and actually complete the job. AVOID JL CLOSETS AT ALL COSTS!!!

JL Closets provided a damaged closet system, agreed to fix it and then decided they didn't want to. They dropped off these damaged closets on my floor, charged me and left without installation. This was a violation of the contract, as no installation was performed on 9-9-2022.
When I brought up the damage of my newly installed floors to management, I was told he wanted to “cut ties with you” and not continue with the project.
JL Closets provides substandard quality and takes no accountability.
JL Closets never finished the installation. Do not use JL Closets. It was all a bad experience.
