LHV bank scammers

I joined this bank after a recommendation from Martin Lewis’s website . I transferred £11,000 into a savings account after opening an account and getting the app. As soon as I transferred the money, the app went out of action and the only way of contacting them is by email where they say they will get back in 5 days !
Luckily my bank flagged up fraud and recalled the transfer.
AVIID AT ALL COSTS SCAMMING COMPANY FROM ESTONIAN

I have used them mostly for investing and the platform is easy to understand and use. All transaction have worked well. Solid solution.

BE CAREFUL

BE CAREFUL! Incompetent employees ask endless questions about an account with virtually no activity, under the pretext of AML procedures. They create an appearance of compliance, while at the same time working with crypto exchanges and EMI companies whose anti-money laundering measures are significantly weaker or completely absent.

I believe there are risks to clients’ funds, because if a bank does not comply with AML requirements, its license may be revoked, and in that case clients will receive no more than EUR 100,000 in compensation under the state guarantee scheme.

⭐ 1 Star – Deeply disappointing, opaque, and disrespectful to e-Residents

LHV Pank rejected the account opening application for my new company without providing any concrete, verifiable, or business-specific reasons. Instead of transparency, I received only generic references to internal “risk appetite,” general terms, and legal clauses. For entrepreneurs—especially **Estonian e-Residents**—this approach is unacceptable and undermines trust in the entire process.

What is particularly troubling is the strong impression that applicants are **not assessed purely on objective facts**, but rather on **personal background, origin, or subjective profiling**. All required documents were submitted, the business model was clearly explained, and full cooperation was provided at every step. Nevertheless, the application was rejected without any opportunity for clarification, correction, or additional explanation.

To make matters worse, I **traveled specifically to Tallinn** to support the account opening in person. This involved considerable time, travel costs, and effort, undertaken in good faith to work transparently with an Estonian bank. That personal commitment was completely disregarded and ultimately meaningless in the decision-making process.

The most alarming part of this experience is the **mandatory upfront fee of approximately EUR 300**, which must be paid merely to apply. This fee is **kept by the bank regardless of approval or rejection**, even when the rejection comes without a clear or individualized justification. This does not feel like a legitimate service fee, but rather like a **systematic monetization of e-Residents**, many of whom have limited alternatives and are dependent on Estonian banking access.

LHV markets itself as a modern, internationally oriented bank that supports startups and entrepreneurs. The reality, however, is an **opaque, one-sided, and dismissive process** that offers neither transparency nor fairness, while placing all financial risk on the applicant.

Summary

- ❌ No transparency
- ❌ No fair or individualized assessment
- ❌ High non-refundable fees without meaningful service
- ❌ Time, travel, and effort completely ignored

For e-Residents and international founders, this bank is **not recommendable**. The overall impression is not one of partnership or support, but of a profit-driven system that benefits from applications regardless of outcome.

Local bank surprisingly unsupportive

the Estonian government is supportive of foreign individuals and companies opening businesses in Estonia. Which I did. I got set up with E-residency with the help of the lovely staff in the Estonian Consulate in Sweden.
Immediately when registering the legal entity, I got flooded with offers of banking services.
I chose LHV as I wanted to support a local bank and it seemed easy, at least if I read the offer I got in my inbox.
Unfortunately, It became both expensive and complicated. And in total contrast to what the estonian government wants. Which is to build the estonian economy as there is not much natural resources and the neighbor in east is closed for business. But no way.
My intention was to move to Estonia in February, and to operate my 2 companies from Estonia thru a new legal entity that I started.
According to EU rules and Estonian immigration rules, as a swede I do not need a residence permit. You need to register with the local police once you have relocated. This fact is ignored by the bank and they want to charge 300 EUR to open a account because I don't have a Estonian ID yet. Why? What happened to EU and free movement of goods and people.
The tone in the messages I received was most unfriendly, displaying suspicion, and has nothing to do with customer service. I understand that there are safeguards in place to avoid money laundry, but if they think that any person attempting to commit money laundry, would answer these ridiculous questions in a way that would detect their bad intentions , they are mistaken.

If they would have bothered to read what I actually answered on all their questions, and followed up by asking relevant questions, for example the turnover in the companies I own, they might have realized that I would be a good customer for a tiny little bank.

I suggest the bank simply do what COOP bank does. It is much more honest. To say no to foreigners and legal entities owned by foreigners to open bank accounts, instead of punishing them for wanting to do business in your country.

Put my paycheck in the account

Put my paycheck in the account. They asked me where the money came from. When I failed to answer (almost immediately), my account was locked.

This occurred on Friday afternoon. The customer service was not available over the weekend, so I was unable to access my paycheck all weekend.

It is now Monday morning, and I still cannot access my account. This bank does not respect its customers; it is quite an infuriating experience banking with them.

It is definitely not worth the 4% they offer on their current account. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Lousy app

The verification page just never worked! I tried my best to get a clear picture of my document and a standard selfie, but after around 30 attempts, I gave up. It really makes me question their system, especially since I was able to get verified on other banking apps on the first try.

LHV Bank Rejected a Fully Compliant Estonian Company Because I’m an e-Resident

I submitted a fully documented microloan application as the founder of a legally registered Estonian OÜ (EcoNexus Systems), backed by a verified Wise business account, Estonian tax registration, and a virtual office certificate stamped by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.

My submission included a notarization-ready €49,840 founder loan agreement, a capped sweat equity log, internal valuation statement, budget forecast, and an audit-ready documentation package — the kind of structured evidence that would rival what a legal team might prepare for a seed-stage raise.

Despite presenting one of the most professionally prepared startup loan applications they’ve likely ever received, I was denied solely because I am an e-resident and not physically living in Estonia.

LHV’s stated support for digital business and innovation collapses the moment a founder isn’t paying rent or payroll locally. This was not a risk-based rejection — it was a blanket exclusion of non-resident founders, regardless of their legal standing or operational quality.

Their actions directly contradict the spirit of Estonia’s e-Residency program and the country’s reputation as a forward-thinking digital state.

If you’re a global founder considering Estonia for your startup, know that LHV is not aligned with the openness and digital-first ethos Estonia promises.

This experience will not be forgotten — and I will make sure other founders don’t waste their time building something exceptional inside a system that doesn’t actually welcome it.

The most abysmal account opening process.

Applied to open an account two weeks ago and still awaiting notification that they have successfully managed to check my details. App message says that it typically takes 5 working days but that clearly is not the case. No telephone number to speak to anyone: only option available to check on the progress of my application is the mobile app which has been showing the same misleading message since day 1, saying "Thanks, we're just checking your details. Typically, this is completed within 5 working days...." .

I've lost patience and am no longer interested so have decided to take my business and money elsewhere.

These tin-pot banks, which don't have a sufficiently developed customer servicing infrastructure in place, ought not to be allowed to operate in the UK banking sector.

This is an absolute FRAUDULANT bank

This is an absolute FRAUDULANT bank! DO NOT OPEN A BUSINESS ACCOUNT THERE! They will guide you though all the steps and payments, then they will block your money and decline the business account opening. Therefore, you will loose all the money you transferred to them. It's a pure LEGAL FRAUD!

Terrible process to open account

Terrible process to open account ! DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK. They lie and mislead and have massive technical glitches that keeps asking you for id documents and when you complain they simply say account declined . it’s a glorified prepay account at best, my advice try monzo. Revolut, Zopa instead. There is Nothing good or positive about this bank STEER WELL CLEAR.

I would say

I would say, disappointing. The platform is not very user-friendly, some features are overly complicated. Customer service is not in a rush at all, and resolving issues takes longer than expected. While their services are fairly functional, the overall experience IS frustrating and should take a significant improvement!!

Incredibly bad

Cannot overstate how bad this service is. The fees increase, and increase and before you know it you pay 30€ per month just for having an account with them. How nice.

I got instant protection when being stupid.

I accidentally responded to scam e-mail in name of LHV that directed me to their shady site to enter user name and smart ID pin 1. As soon as I had done it, I got e-mail and sms from LHV saying that access to my account has been restricted due to safety reasons. I followed the procedures and all went well. 10 points for such protective measures.

Festgeld bei LHV und Raisin-Weltsparen

Über die Raisin-Weltsparen-Bank legte ich eine Summe als Festgeld bei der LHV an (Bank aus Estland). Nach dem Ablauf im Juni 2024 folgte dann automatische Verlängerung/ Prolongation.
Da die Abstimmung der beiden Banken untereinander einige Tage dauert, muss man regelmäßig in den Posteingang schauen, um den Vertrag nicht zu verpassen . Das habe ich leider nicht oft genug gemacht und anschließend den Widerrufstermin verpasst. In dieser Zeit nämlich setzte die LHV den Zins auf 0,0%. Unverschämt und ärgerlich, denn zu dem Zeitpunkt lag der Durchschnittszinssatz noch bei 4,25%.
Mit solcher Strategie versucht die LHV an billiges Geld zu kommen, sehr wohlwissend, dass viele Kunden ihre Verträge zu spät sichten und so den Widerrufstermin verstreichen lassen werden.
Auf diese Weise hat die LHV sich um meine Zinsen bereichert und ich darf ein Jahr lang auf mein Geld verzichten.
So geht Diebstahl heutzutage. Seien Sie deshalb bitte misstrauisch!
