During our family vacation to Italy, based in Lucca, I was seeking a challenging and memorable cycling experience. As an avid cyclist, I searched for a cycling company, and Lucca Cycling caught my attention. They offered many memorable and adventurous routes. I chose to do 2 separate daily rides #1 Lucca to Bologna and #2 Lucca to Florence. I also rented a bike through them which made it seamless.

The scenery was stunning, the roads were challenging, but generally free of cars, making it perfect for a cycling adventure.
I have visited Florence before but entering the town via a bicycle was something I'll never forget. The views were stunning.
It took a lot of effort but was totally worth it!

Plus, I was back after the rides to enjoy the evenings with my family.

The vacation to Italy was an epic story and the rides had their own chapters.

Sadly I did not enjoy Alliston as a cycling guide. She was not very warm, nor engaging. She focused on herself the entire ride and did not ask me a single question. During the ride she failed to alert me to road hazards not once but 3-5 times. I was going to ride with her additional days and I canceled. I do not recommend her as a ride guide and she is very expensive.

Alison and LCC organize and plan challenging trips — executed very well — with personal attention to the details that make traveling in a foreign country easy. Her staff is great and she attracts strong cyclists who are great people to spend time with. The individuals in the group support each other and the groups gel. I know for me, it’s a trip that makes my cycling year and it gives me incentive to arrive in better shape each year. Her route plans are creative and it’s not the same trip that every large tour group uses — definitely an experience to remember — seeing authentic parts of Italy (and with the most recent trip, parts of France). I’ve done three trips with Alison as a guide and I look forward to a future trip.

Lucca Cycling Club puts on absolutely top notch tours. I rode the Adriatico-Tirreno (coast to coast) in September. Definitely the trip of a lifetime. The hotels were great. The route selection was excellent (and what a route it was...). The team Alison put together was the best part…and they were truly exceptional. Having World Tour-level support after a long day of riding was decadent...and very much needed! You won't be disappointed if you book a ride with Lucca Cycling Club.

I have done several of these types of trips with several organizers: the one with Alison and LCC was simply the best I have ever experienced. The support was fantastic, the accommodation outstanding and the food sublime. I will be doing another one in 2026!
