I am writing this from the perspective of an employee, with the purpose of informing future or potential workers about what they may encounter. To ensure clarity regarding the specific location being addressed, please note the physical address below:

Hotel De Golf Building, Avenida El Canal, Maracay 2102, Aragua, Venezuela

Below is a concise summary of the practices that are reportedly part of the workplace culture at this location. I strongly advise against seeking employment at this establishment.

Influence Trafficking:
Individuals without the necessary qualifications are placed in positions of authority, often through personal connections. Staff are not provided with adequate training, yet are expected to meet unrealistic standards. This is accompanied by constant pressure, staff reductions, and expectations that remaining personnel maintain the same performance levels with fewer resources.

Inadequate Compensation:
Wages are not aligned with market standards for respective roles. Employees who express their desire to grow within the Marriott brand frequently request fair reassessment, but management justifies inaction by citing infrastructure expenses, which are not the responsibility of the employees. This situation results in excessive staff turnover and continuous overburdening of both managers and staff.

Workplace Harassment (Mobbing):
Employees are expected to operate at an unsustainable pace in order to meet deadlines and address customer concerns. Managers who do not share the team’s workload often criticize staff for underperformance, leading to employee burnout and eventual resignation, perpetuating a damaging cycle.

Poor Investment in Human Capital:
The negative aspects of the workplace culture are present at all hierarchical levels. Leadership at this location often disregards the operational difficulties faced by staff, opting instead to assert authority without offering support. It is normalized for one employee to be assigned the workload of three, and only when that employee resigns is a replacement sought.

Lack of Career Advancement:
Despite the brand’s stated corporate values, these are not practiced at this location. Instances of threats, shouting, public humiliation, and inappropriate remarks—particularly towards women—have been observed. Promotions are not based on merit or professional qualifications, but rather on subjective personal criteria. It is common to see individuals in leadership positions who lack relevant experience, and these supervisors often distance themselves from operational responsibilities, refusing to assist by citing contractual technicalities.

No Formal Complaint Tracking:
Employee complaints are not recorded nor acted upon. Feedback forms are only provided with graphite pencils, which raises concerns regarding the seriousness and confidentiality with which complaints are treated.

Salary Discrepancies:
Employees are contracted under the legal minimum wage of Venezuela, while receiving a different actual salary. This results in official benefits and severance payments being calculated based on the lower contractual amount. The company uses legal loopholes to make it difficult or unprofitable for workers to assert their rights.

Conclusion:
An estimated 90% of employees who resign from the Marriott Maracay Golf Resort express a strong desire never to return. I advise others to avoid this experience.

Mgmt don’t know how the phones work for urgent call

Desperately needed to make overseas call. Followed written instructs- didn’t work. Called reception, advising urgency and 20 minute deadline - they didn’t know how to do them. Waited for advice from general manager- nothing. Messaged her, no response. This was life changing situation. Don’t rely on this organisation - they are not up to it. Mgmt say phones don’t do int’l- I have photo saying it does,- wouldn’t risk staying again. Mgr won’t speak to me.

Some people deserve more than just a thank you. Ayushi Agrawal, I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude. You were very kind to take some time out to tell us of where all the good shops and restaurants were. We had a very good time during our stay at the Surat Marriott Hotel. The staff were very kind and helpful. I would always recommend the Surat Marriott to my friends and family. Apologies for a late review and hope all the team are fine. Thanks once again.
