Mason & Oak is an independent residential building surveying practice specialising in the inspection of homes and historic properties. We provide Level 2 Home Surveys, Level 3 Building Surveys and detailed condition inspections to help buyers understand the true condition of a property before committing to purchase. Alongside modern homes, Mason & Oak has a particular focus on period and heritage buildings, including listed and traditionally constructed properties. Older buildings require a different approach to inspection and repair, with an understanding of historic materials, traditional construction methods and how these buildings behave over time. Our surveys aim to identify defects, explain their causes and provide practical advice on appropriate repair and ongoing maintenance. Reports are written in clear, straightforward language and are designed to give clients a full understanding of a property’s condition, potential risks and future responsibilities. Whether inspecting a modern house or a historic building, our aim is the same: to provide honest, professional advice that allows clients to make informed decisions with confidence.

I booked Carl to complete a “snag list” on a new build property I was buying with my husband and I couldn’t be happier with the thorough report we received. You hear a lot of horror stories with new builds so it was really important to us that the person we hired did a thorough inspection of the property. We were provided with a 30+ page report complete with images and measurements and really detailed facts. As my husband and I aren’t experts I really appreciated that the report was easy to understand which empowered us to query things intelligently with the housing developer. More than that Carl gave us confidence in the property we were purchasing and you can’t put a price on peace of mind.

Insurance claim

I recently used Carl to carry out a survey following a leak in my home. I couldn’t be more pleased with the service he provided. From the outset, he was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough in his approach.
While my own insurance company seemed to downplay the extent of the damage and expected me to obtain basic quotes, Carl took the time to properly assess the situation. His report was detailed, clear, and comprehensive, highlighting issues that might otherwise have been overlooked and giving me a much better understanding of the work required.
Carl’s expertise and attention to detail gave me confidence during what was a stressful situation. I would highly recommend his services to anyone needing an honest and diligent building surveyor.
