I recently learned kiswahili language courses at Mwanza school of Kiswahili. It was great experience. I appreciate their flexibility and supportive approach. The lessons were practical and daily used words. Specially Mwalimu Daudi, Nancy and Jetro Ahsanteni sana.

I am very happy with the progress I have made since I started learning Swahili about five months ago. I have made significant improvements to varying degrees in all areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. This is an extremely exciting experience having started learning the language from scratch.
There are no challenges paying online by bank card
The quality of lessons is great though there is room for improvement.
About the teachers in general:
- Since teachers take turns to teach, they need to collaborate more in terms of handing over pending questions from their previous class with a particular student.
- The school should have a way of notifying the student which teacher to expect ahead of each class. There are instances where I show up with an assignment from the previous class, but a different teacher shows up with a new topic.
- In order to save time, teachers should be encouraged not to feel under pressure to answer tricky questions there and then. They should feel free to defer questions to the next class
About individual Teachers:
- Teacher Jethro exudes a lot of positive energy which is very motivating to the student. He is very generous with encouraging words whenever a student does well. he also makes genuine effort to interact outside the normal class via whatsapp.
- Teacher Daudi genuinely looks out for the progress of his students. He is particularly helpful in explaining the use of words in different contexts. In the long term, Teacher Daudi must continue improving his English to enhance his effectiveness in teaching Swahili. He also needs to improve prior preparation of his presentations to avoid wasting a lot of time just trying to share the screen. His interaction outside normal class is good.
- Teacher Nancy is very engaging in the way she presents the lessons. She also has a way of encouraging the student to try without feeling shy to make mistakes. I found the sequencing of her lessons a bit problematic. She seemed to be deciding what to teach next right in the class. She must do more prior preparation. There is no interaction with her outside the official class.

I am learning Swahili with Mwanza school for almost two months now. After initial changes of teachers, I am now learning with Mr. Daudi for quite a while. He has ready material for every lesson. It is well structured and has clear objectives for every lesson. We are following my pace, moving faster through areas that I already know and taking more time to clarify things that are new to me.
We did not have issues with Internet, teachers were always there on time. It's easy to access the class online. I also didn't have any issues with payments.
I live in Europe, and this is the only school that I found to teach Swahili online. I am very satisfied so far, but I have to mention that I'm just a little above beginners level so I can't comment how is the school for more advanced students.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience studying with The Mwanza School of Kiswahili. My teacher "Mwalimu Esther" is so patient with me. She has been very flexible in accommodating my schedule . I have some background knowledge of Kiswahili. She has been giving me a thorough review of grammar basics, while at the same time introducing new vocabulary to challenge me and help to expand my communication skills. The owner/manager of the school has been easy to work with as well. If you are looking to learn or continue learning an African language, I would highly recommend the Mwanza School. If you specifically are interested in Kiswahili, you will be very pleased with Esther. Asante sana!

After researching several options for learning Kiswahili in person and online (recommended by travelers and students of multiple languages), I chose Mwanza School of Kiswahili because it offers month to month scheduling with an option for light or intensive study, as well as 1:1, small group, and access to video instruction.
Mwanza School of Kiswahili had me work with a few instructors to find a good fit based on my current knowledge of Kiswahili and incorporated my cultural knowledge and familial connections.
They have been flexible with my schedule so that I am able to learn in 15 - 60 min. increments on a daily or weekly basis. (I live in a different time zone, teach elementary school, and visit family in East Africa during the summer).
The school, as well as my instructor, Esther, are meeting my expectations between their curriculum and my needs (I know that I need a teacher with whom I can engage and not just an app).
I am looking forward to continuing my learning with Esther and Mwanza School of Kiswahili.
