I’ve been going to the Ennis NCT centre for the past few years and I never had any major issues until this year. The experience this time was honestly very disappointing. The new staff were quite rude and came across as uninterested in helping. When I asked questions about my car, JM struggled to explain things clearly in English, which made the whole situation even more frustrating.
What bothered me the most was their attitude — they didn’t seem willing to talk or properly communicate what the issues were, just very dismissive overall. In previous years, the staff were much more professional and helpful, so this was a big change and not in a good way.
I expect a basic level of customer service and clear communication, especially when it comes to something as important as car safety. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet those expectations at all.

Went to Ennis centre as Limerick was busy, had the misfortune to meet an angry man with the initials JG, this lad definitely brings his rage to work with him, he beat the lard out of the underside of my car. Fortunately, despite his best efforts there was no issues with rust. He failed me for a suspension link that needs a lot of labour to replace, the mechanic removed it and rang me to say that it was perfect and had obviously been replaced fairly recently, there was some other stuff too that was just made up, car went back in and passed the retest but still cost a lot for the work. I was wondering why the guy was so incompetent, but the mechanic said maybe the guy is a crank and feels bigger by making people waste their money, or that sometimes the owner will just sell off the car cheap rather than spend money fixing it and maybe the angry man might buy it and sell it on. Apart from this clown that lets all his colleagues down, I've never had a problem with any other tester. I've dealt with many, and they've been helpful, polite, knowledgeable and give you great free advice about doing the necessary jobs that they've identified to keep you safe, maybe JG should go back for some training from one of the real testers, if he's able for it?

The service here was extremely disappointing. The staff's attitude was unprofessional and, frankly, disrespectful. Management should consider better training or a complete staff evaluation. Until the level of service matches the prices, I won’t be returning
I was booked in for a test in NCT…Naas
I was booked in for a test in NCT Centre in Naas but unfortunately was ill and couldn't make it, rebooked and went back in this morning at 8am.
Service was exceptional and the guy that looked after me was really nice and extremely pleasant.

I had my test booked for the 4 January in Limerick Test Center..on the 3 rd January I was notified of an emergency which necessitated that I had to travel early on Sunday morning which meant I would miss my NCT.. I took a chance a called up to the Test Center and explained my situation and the gentleman on reception could not have been more helpful..he brought it in straight away and I was out in 40 minutes.. I could not speak more highly of everyone I encountered in limerick Test Center..

I had the most awful experience at the Killarney NCT centre today. I took my 2022 rav4 hybrid for its first test. First of all the test was late. There was 3 staff on one Caucasian guy and two Asian guys. All foreign. The tester took my car and they seemed to be ages testing it on all the machines. Next thing I saw the 3 testers push my car out of the garage. The tester came back handed me the test report and said he needed to show me something. I went out to front of the centre and there was my car bonnet up and it dead. They had drained the 12 volt battery. The tester said for me to wait and they would help me start it after a while. Some time passed and I went in to ask when were they going to help me. Another tester said get a mechanic in a very rude manner. The initial tester came near me no more. The third tester finally agreed to help me and he also gave me the complaint forms I had asked for earlier. The two Asian testers were very rude and unhelpful. That car went in perfect. I have had hybrids for years so I’m used to them and never had such an experience. Who are these foreign testers and what are their qualifications. They should be held accountable
Weird NCT email notificaiton.
They email you 30 days in advance to say you should have booked your NCT 90 days earlier — why not notify people sooner, especially when the test falls around Christmas?
I was also quite surprised by the statement that “verbal or physical abuse is unacceptable in our test centres,” which says a lot about how stressful and compulsory the NCT experience has become.
They also mention a €60 increase for a full test and €40 for a re-test; some clear explanation around those price rises would be appreciated.
Brought my car in for retest and failed…
Brought my car in to Mullingar test center on Wed 19th for retest AGAIN and failed again on one dip beam, brought the car to garage and they checked it and said it was fine, i booked again "another 40e" and brought it back again and it passed despite nothing been done with the light, A guy handed me the sheet and i told him nothing had been done since i was there last and he just laughed and walked away, found my car parked on the street 50 meters from the center. My car drove perfectly into the Enniscorthy Test centre failed on two things nothing mechanical and it never drove again outside the shutters less than 30minutes with entering and leaving the center.I had to get it towed,someone with the initials ED absolutely destroyed my car and taking no blame.The 'mechanics' up there have no morals or decency,destroying peoples cars and doesn't bat an eyelid because there not paying for the damage.Their higher up is no better when I complained about it,got told i will hear in 2 weeks and at that it was by post,it was said their inspector was happy with the test and is taking no fault for it!!! Bodycam should be mandatory during tests so you can see what there doing to your car if anything came up!! I know multiple people with similar stories with cars being destroyed and them taking no fault so your out of pocket and there still getting away with it!

Need to follow the model of the uk, if a car fails nct it is not insured and should not be let back on the road, however with a mot the garage will do the repairs on the spot.
Close these nct centres down and give the work to local businesses and not outside multinationals companys.
On my re test the person inside the counter asked me for my driving licence and car certificate while sitting on the reception desk with his back turned towards me.
I politely refused to give him the documents until he turned around and faced me with courtesy. The staff were not polite and I was not willing to let them treat me poorly.
This is what happens when the nct centres are the only place to certifie your car and they know that.
NCT Deansgrange Centre
NCT Deansgrange Centre. Left waiting for an hour while the certificate was just left on a desk. They didn't call me or check the waiting room. I had to ask twice if they were forgetting me, as the TV screen said 11 minutes left on inspection. Asked a staff member at the desk and was roared at "what do you mean 11 minutes? Dont mind that, just wait until you are called". waited another 40 mins before I had to enquire again. Poor customer service.

No respect for customers cars. I observed a non Irish person JG violently hammering a screwdriver under an older car in northpoint 1 while waiting for my car,then he failed the car for corrosion.

This literally is a joke paying 60 euros to fail on something so small and then another 40 euros for a retest. This scam needs to be reviewed. Like why aren't they advising customers here they do a visual test if this was fixed for free. The Swear people have plenty of money to be wasting here.
Galway NCT
Galway NCT, had to come back and pay 40€ for a dipbeam major. Has passed for years and now suddenly re-test requirement.
What is a dipbeam failure by the way? In friendlier countries you are allowed to join the inspector and adjust the headlight there on the spot.
Then they claim that they could not find the VIN number. He looked in the wrong place on the frame. It is also located behind the windscreen and that has worked for the last 15 years- but not in Galway.
The place is full of sellotaped hostile warning signs - nasty, messy and uncivilized.
Hopelessly unfriendly, dirty and inefficient place. (it takes weeks and months go get a slot)
Pure robbery to charge 40€ to check a dipbeam and VIN number.
