Read the Observer all my life. A wonderful progressive newspaper with writers of distinction. Now it feels like a right wing soft Tory title regurgitating political talking points fed to it by spin doctors.

Since its removal from my Guardian subscription I have written 5 times, as advised, to request an Observer subscription, so far (despite checking the address and using more than one) with no response.

I had a problem with Santander Bank and wrote to the Observer’s problem solver, Jill. Within twenty four hours I had communication from Santander which may solve my problem. Without her help I would still be searching a solution.

I have already posted this review under Tortoise media but I'm aware that Tortoise now operates under the Observer name and it's unclear who I contact about my membership. Their website sends me in circles.

I've tried multiple times to get my membership cancelled but no one will respond to my emails or queries on the website. I've emailed every relevant address I could find, well before my subscription renewed, only to be charged the yearly subscription cost anyway. Now, I cannot log into my account. I've paid for a service that I didn't want and I cannot access. I've never had media subscriptions that have been this difficult to cancel.

they don't let me unsubscribe! each of their emails contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom. nice. but clicking it results only in a web page on which I can subscribe to even more to receive!! this is really not okay.

having said that, the articles are wonderful. I love reading them. insightful, deep, intellectual, pointing attention to truly interesting things and views that broaden horizon and to which other journals don't give attention. My intention was to unsubscribe in order to subscribe with a different email address. So now I receive all in duplicate and there is no way out. please fix this and I will turn my review into 5*, which is more than deserved for the top quality content.

you may be surprised that I give such a harsh review as 1* for a single mistake like not letting people unsubscribe. but then look, this is the hallmark of junk sites. truly not ok for a top intellectual journal like yours.
