There are lots of web folks out there who can put together a decent website. Then there are designers, who bring their artistry into the development, making the client’s website a canvas for their creativity. Taylor Osborn is a designer, through and through. I am so grateful that I found Taylor and that he agreed to work with me (and to continue working with me when I would have fired me!) From my first glance of his websites, there was something unique about the perspective, the way in which the information was presented, and the experience I had as a visitor to websites he had designed.

The cleanliness drew me in, simplifying the navigation. Buttons, images, blurbs were all thoughtfully positioned on the page to make navigation easier. After looking at enough websites from enough developers, I knew I wanted Taylor to design my site. I was probably a difficult (or typical) client because I had very little idea of what I wanted. I wanted clean, simple, elegant. And green. He took the time to send me a number of websites and to talk through what I liked and didn’t like. He asked insightful questions to narrow down the scope of what I desired. From there, he created a mock design that is essentially what the final version came to be. It was fantastic. He also designed my logo and business cards. That’s the designer part of the story.

Then there is the writer and editor. I had an immense amount of information that I provided to Taylor and kept changing the verbiage as I tried to narrow the exact focus of my practice. Not only was Taylor was patient through each iteration, he was able to pick out the key insights hiding within the verbosity and present them succinctly. On more than one occasion I found myself asking him to clarify my own ideas and appreciating his precision and brevity. As to why I am grateful that he kept me on as a client: the site was supposed to be completed in two months, but it took me a longer to work through my ideas. It ended up being more than 9 months. He was incredibly patient and understanding throughout the process. When I presented a good idea, he adopted it. When the idea was half-baked or wouldn’t further my own objectives, he pushed back. Not once did I overrule his suggestions. Rarely in my life has that ever happened with another professional.
