Amazing customer service

Can't say enough about pet plate and their amazing customer service. Recently decided to try Pet Plate for my Yorkie, Elvis. At 15yrs old I wanted to make sure he had food that he deserved.

That being said he passed away before he could enjoy any of the food purchased. I ended up donating that food to the local shelter and forgot about my subscription.

Unfortunately my subscription was still active and it sent out another order of food. This was my mistake, I forgot to cancel. I reached out to Pet plate on a whim to let them know what happened. The messages I received were kind and forgiving. Not only did they credit my card back, but also took the time to write a heart felt message. I can not thank Mandy and Jasmin enough for their amazing customer service.

I'll be donating this round of food to the local shelter as well, and letting friends and family know if they are looking for a pet food company to work with, Pet Plate is it.

Insensitive Engagement

I’ve been a loyal Pet Plate customer for over a decade, but I’m really disappointed. Since losing my Chihuahua, Kasey, in April 2025, I updated my profile to stop receiving food for her. Yet, I keep getting notifications that food is on the way for her instead of for my other dog, Kirby. This is the third time, and while I appreciate the apologies, it’s painful to relive this loss. I hope you can address this issue. It feels disheartening for a company that cares for pets.

After 10 years I had to leave Pet Plate.as other reviewers are saying, things have gone down hill and keep getting worse. Deliveries are late. I had to buy food from the pet store for my dog because I completely ran out. The container sizes are inconsistent and I am stuck measuring the ounces instead of just using one container a day. Customer service is non existent. Phones are off they do not accept phone calls anymore. Emails if answered take days and they are ranges from people overseas. SO sad to see hat used to be a great company go down hill. I have moved to Ollie and am waiting for my first box this week so I can transition my dog.

Rarely On Time

Multiple shipments have been late and I don't mean a day or two I mean a week or more. The container size varies and the math doesn't always add up to the amount you should receive.
Response times to emails are getting longer and longer. The last time I called they offered to send me a few extra tubs so that I would have cushion if the shipment was late again. The extra tubs came a week later than expected. When the "extra" tubs were ordered somehow my main shipment was just canceled. So now I am worse off. I don't think I can give them any more chances to fix the problem. If your shipments are consistently late then change your shipping lead time. It is clearly a systems issue.

My dog really likes the lamb and…

My dog really likes the lamb and venison entrees. Problem is they haven't had it in stock for months now. Seems to me they are having issues with their supply chain. I hope they get it worked out as I'd like to return as a steady customer, but they need to prove they can keep a product in stock.

Petplate used to be a great company but…

Petplate used to be a great company but sadly it is going down hill. I have been a customer for years and know the company well. The shipment are unreliable as in you may order one thing and then they say they are out of stock. I have had many order that they didn’t have half of what I ordered available and now they can’t even keep their packaging in stock so you receive different sizes to what you ordered and it doesn’t add up to the amount you usually get. I am sad to say I wouldn’t recommend PetPlate anymore simply because you can’t rely on them.

Fulfillment Issues

Our dog loves the food and the containers are much easer to dish out than Farmer's Dog. However, the last 2 shipments have been incorrect. I was told a flavor we ordered was out of stock. Fine, then let me choose a new flavor instead of choosing for me. We started using Pet Plate because of the convenience of the containers. Our dog gets half a container at each meal. Easy!

The next shipment, they were out of the size of the containers we ordered. Without contacting us, they instead sent large containers. Not a big deal but no we have to measure each meal. Which takes away the convenience.

I'm giving them one more shipment to see if things get corrected before we cancel. But as of today, 3 of the 6 flavors are out of stock. They claimed on another review it's because of tariffs. I'm not buying that. Tariffs would only impact the price.

*Update:
I received a reply from Pet Plate asking me to update my communication settings. They were updated prior to this review. The only communication I get is when the order has shipped.

Shipped with no ice - food not refrigerated

Food looks good but fulfillment and shipping are terrible. First order was missing two (of 7) containers. Dry ice container was empty so food was not kept cold during shipping. More than half was warm (not even cool!) despite outdoor temps in the low 50’s. I had to throw more than half of it away.
Looked good online but experience was awful. I requested a refund and won’t try them again. (Edited for typo.)

Pet plate recipe shortages…

Pet plate had promised that shortages of certain recipes would be corrected by Labor Day, and yet we are well into October and the problem remains. They continue to mislead their customers on these issue in attempt not to see subscriptions get cancelled. Not a reliable company.

The ONLY reason I'm not giving a one…

The ONLY reason I'm not giving a one star is because my dog does actually like the food. Besides that, everything else about this company is so frustrating.

First off, THERE ISN'T ENOUGH PRODUCT. I've had MULTIPLE flavors come with less than the 8 oz advertised on the container. Beef, chicken, and now venison. The first time I brought this up to them they said "It could be off by 1 - 2 oz" and gave me a $5 credit. Literally illegal but pop off queen. I'm definitely going to talk to a lawyer about this because it happens so frequently and I don't want a freaking credit I want the product!! The way I know is because my dog is supposed to have 2oz every meal and a lot of the times her last meal is shorted. I meticulously weigh them because I'm just like that and it's so annoying that I have to supplement some other food because it's literally not enough.

Secondly, they make coming back to check how much you're supposed to be feeding your dog so irritatingly vague and unavailable. WHY is it not just right there?? Why do I have to dig in my account or email customer service?? Cancelling is also a pain but that's for obvious reasons. They also only ship every three weeks unless you email their customer service. Make it make sense. Why is everything just a run around with this company?? I seriously wish I never gave my dog the food and saw how much she actually enjoyed it because now I feel beholden to a company that is so annoying to deal with. The only way I would recommend them is if your having a lot of difficulties with your dog eating. My dog is a senior dog so I can suck it up for the time being but I would NEVER start a puppy on this food.

All in all, don't recommend. Only if you have a super picky eater and this is the only food she actually gets excited about. Can't knock them on that front, the food is actually good and my dog loves it, unfortunately.

Brittany Loves PetPlate

My pup Chloe a Brittany absolutely loves the Turkey and Beef. She licks her bowl clean and goes nuts when I open cabinet where it's stored.
I wiill continue to keep her on this plan. I highly recommended but it can be pricey for large dogs or multiple dog household.

Looks just like all can food

Looks just like all dog food, mushy. If my dogs took 2 bites, I was lucky. Heated it, added cheese..... still didn't like. For once I would like to get what is pictured in the advertisement.

I'll never buy this product again

It's not a bad product, but it's clearly for people who have WAAAAY more dollars than sense...
I'd been paying through the nose for it for the convenience through chewy, whose website has been unresponsive for a while now, and made the mistake of going to petplate's website - what an insulting run-around!
Talk about made to benefit the seller...! Couldn't just shop & choose products, you have to enter all of this personal info and the AI bot puts together a "plan" - that surely recommends what's best for the seller for us to buy, rather than allow me to pick what's best for me to buy.
VERY sad sign of the times - and a major mile marker on the highway of us being a society that's been very effectively dumbed-down!!!

I have been through every dog food at pet stores and grocery stores. I also have tried every dog food online. Well pet plate was delivered today and my dog ate an entire serving. Loves the apple chicken treats. Thank u so much

Inaccessible

This website is not accessible for visually impaired users because when I try to enter on choices, I’m unable to click to start my meal plan and when I called a month ago, I wasn’t able to place an order with a representative because they did not want to help

Here's where I have a HUGE issue with this. The price.

They quoted my 55lb saluki $500 a month for the fresh option (after the promotion, because this is something that you're presumably buying consistently for the rest of your dogs life. Who cares about your first box?). That equals about $8 per cup or $15 per pound. Whole foods sells ground chicken (the most expensive item on the ingredient lists) for $8 per pound. Sweet potatos are $4,green beans $2 so on. So we can assume based on the nutritional breakdown around $6 per pound. Ignoring quality differences and the fact that they definitely get things whole sale, that's an almost 300% mark up. Starbucks comes in at an 80% mark up.

These numbers are not exact and they have other options that would save you at most $100 a month, but they are definitely close. Even at a 150% mark up it's outrageous.

For comparison, Forbes magazine said a liberal shopping man 24-41 spends $440 ish in groceries. These prices are wild. Absolutely wild.

While individual ingredients may run at a much lower cost, our meals are cooked in USDA kitchens, packaged into pre-portioned containers for easy use, and shipped on dry ice directly to your door. They are also developed by our Veterinary Nutritionist, Dr. Renee Streeter. This is why the costs are higher than the individual ingredients you listed.
