I love this course. It is invigorating and exciting. It stretches you but the foundation is always one of being kind to yourself and letting yourself be in the process and in the moment. There are fantastic tools for 'the toolbox' and the online community is wonderful.

Thorough, detailed and interesting course

in spite off working the whole course now, it helped me absolutly to become aware of some serious matters of behavings I do - which are blocking and destroying me. And he shows ways to handle it ! For me only this is unpayable or uncountable with money ....! Therefore ...if you want to develop and leave old behavings behind, to go for a better performance and of course, life, too - then take it !

I'm part way in on the course Unlock Your Performance and I can say that it has helpful content and exercises to raise awareness and action one's way to a more conscious approach to performance. It also offers a 6 week Bootcamp for trying out the skills. From what I've seen it looks like a good platform to gain experience and feedback towards developing a performance mindset. However, I've little time at the moment and not utilising these aspects of the course and community. On the one hand, it seems to be a lot of money for reading material and exercises. On the other, I assume the real value comes from engaging with the creator and community which I haven't done yet. Apparently, it's lifetime membership and I'm in no hurry!

The course is a whole new world of discovery and Mark has done a brilliant job researching all the information and developing it into a comprehensive music performance psychology course which can be applied by any person. Mark also steers you through the course and makes himself available for any queries you have, so that you get the most from it. How he does it alone I don't know.

I have found that "Play In The Zone" has opened up many ideas and procedures that will improve my goals of becoming a better player. The training modules are very well presented by Mark .
I would recommend this course to anybody trying to improve there overall playing skills

Excellent course material and very user friendly platform. Really helped me to stop holding back and letting go.
I must still finish the boot camp, but the delay in doing so has more to do with practical and work-related worries of Covid-19, since "performing" on the platform is really fun. Thanks Mark for having started it in the first place!

It’s the first time I’ve ever followed an online course and I’m finding it amazing. It’s improved my playing already as I practise with a purpose but more importantly I enjoy playing so much more and can’t wait to get behind the piano.
The course modules, with video, audio and text are easy to follow- each topic building on the previous.
I threw myself straight into the ‘Bootcamp’ - a six week intensive training period involving posting a weekly ‘performance’ on the site- scary to begin with then as confidence grew became an exciting challenge! Feedback from Mark in the form of personal e mails and posts on the site were encouraging and helpful.

Play in the Zone is the most focused, well-sequenced and pertinent course I have found for musicians. It moves the student along a structured path to positive outcomes for quality performance and technique. Mark has done a remarkable job of assimilating the latest from sports psychology and brain science for a clear and rewarding journey towards moving your performance forward. The lessons are both encouraging and challenging and applicable to not only music but to life.

There's plenty of literature out there about the psychology of performance and I've read quite a bit of it. However, it's overwhelming and I didn't know where to start implementing it.

UYP takes you through the process step by step. You are given exercises at each stage and gradually build up confidence to take more risks with your playing.

Mark Morley-Fletcher has learnt these techniques through improving his tennis. He then worked out how to apply them to playing music. I think he has done this most successfully.

I have definitely benefitted and feel I have more confidence when playing and know how to keep going in difficult situations.

This is a very practical, hands-on course for musicians dealing with performance anxiety. It takes many of the
techniques used in the world of sports and applies them to the performing musician. Mark is a very good teacher
and has obviously done a lot of research on this topic, which he explains in a straightforward manner. The "bootcamp" aspect
of the course requires participants to study lessons and then seek to apply them in a one-take only video recording each week,
which are posted and shared wit the other members. These videos are very instructive for the students and their colleagues in the course.
If I had any criticism, it would be that at times I feel there is too much material with each individual lesson, making it hard to absorb. But that naturally depends on how much time each student can devote to it. Overall I´d say Unlock Your Performance is a very worthwhile course.

Having played saxophones and flutes for decades, I've always felt that somehow I didn't have the physical coordination and mental focus to progress much beyond where I currently play. After a few days of doing Mark Morley-Fletcher's course and with a little personal guidance from him, I found that if I slowed down the practice of exercises to the point that I could focus on small details and polish them, I could get incredible results that even my daughter could notice readily. This encouraged me to dig deeper into his Play In The Zone - Unlock Your Performance materials. At each stage in my working through the course materials I found that focusing on those small details with the mental awareness Mark suggests is crucial, the 'baby steps' kept adding to my overall level of performance. While there is no substitute for having a good teacher giving you new practice materials to challenge you and help you expand your vision of what can be added or developed in your playing, Play In The Zone gives the dedicated professional and the casual enthusiast alike a 'way ahead', a path to improving performance and study of their instruments. Given the benefits I've gotten from Mark's course, I can highly recommend Play In The Zone for any musicians who want to improve their performance and mental practice skills.

I have been a long time musician playing open mics and gigs. I
would play in bands and hide behind other musicians but I really wanted to play solo acoustic guitar but just had no confidence. Eventually , I knew I needed to do something about this. Mark's course Play In the Zone was introduced to me via a music forum. After initial emails with Mark, I decided to take the course. There are several interactive modules and Mark guides you through with regular emails and feedback. Even when you have finished the course Mark continues support. Today, i can get up on a stage and play and use Play In Zone coping methods

Usually I ignore requests to rate products and experiences on the internet but in Mark’s case I am happy to do so. It’s been six months since I took the course and I can honestly say I have never felt better about my playing. Mark’s mission is not to teach you how to play music. Rather, he shows you how to develop and maintain a positive attitude about the abilities you already possess. I cannot overstate how significantly this has changed my playing. I used to think “I should be able to play like so-and-so” and now I think “I can play like so-and-so”. It’s a subtle shift in my outlook that’s making a world of difference in my playing. Thank you, Mark!

An excellent program that keeps me learning how to learn. I started serious piano lessons after a life of playing the saxophone through college and afterwards for fun.
Learning how to perform a solo instrument is a new ballgame and the “zone” lessons and tips are very helpful.

Mark has produced an excellent programme. It really helped me understand the "inner game" of music performance. I completed it about 18 months ago and plan to do it again.

Unlock Your Performance

Mark Morely-Fletcher’s course “Unlock Your Performance” (UYP) enables the musician to develop a mental scaffolding to support the physical activities within practice and performance. The result? Well, it’s like anything. You get out of it what your put into it.

But here’s the kicker and why I give the course 5 stars.

• The course addresses what is usually missing, i.e. the mental aspects of practice and performance. A heads-up: Your practice goals must not be vague!
• Mark breaks larger goals into small, well thought-out steps, sized and well sequenced so that you can’t help but succeed. You earn the momentum that many little successes bring and the confidence that goes with it.
• Homework is doable, not discouraging but motivational. I experienced incremental improvement almost immediately. I think therein lies the difference between work and fun, “difficulty” versus “effortlessness” … being able to see short term goals met that lead to large goals feasible.

In engineering, scaffoldings are usually discarded after projects are complete. But musicians always have the next tune to learn, or playing process to develop, or set or concert to structure and perform.

So this mental shell that houses the physical aspects has to become a part of you and not discarded. An ever-present structure but transparent would be ideal.

That’s why Mark provides some fireworks after the course material has been absorbed. It’s a 6-week “Bootcamp” (on-line based) and designed to engrain the mental habits learned for life.

I’m one core session away from experiencing the Bootcamp, and the course has taken me to the point where I’m looking very forward to the challenge. I’m very curious.

My point of view: I’m a musician/hobbyist (now for 67 years and counting) starting at age 8. My love of music has been time shared with a 50 year professional engineering career. Now in retirement, my new free time makes the UYP a very effective path for refocusing. Plus I feel the principles apply to any endeavor, not just music. We have 3 adult children and 5 grand kids. My wife and I find it rewarding leveraging Mark’s wisdom through our offspring.

Epilogue: I’ve touched on the aspects of UYP that are important to me. But UYP is so thorough and comprehensive that it’s hard to put it in a “nutshell” as I have tried.

Some things unsaid: Mark’s on-line support is proactive and great. Tutorial links provided give wonderful insight. The “Play in the Zone” Community is a tremendous sounding board and resource (i.e. interaction with other students, members).

UYP is a “living” course and Mark diligently upgrades its content. UYP is his labor of love.

My Recommendation: Go further with your investigation into this course and see if it’s a fit. I think it will take you where you want to go.

I am in the midst of taking the course and it has been very helpful. I am trying to improve my confidence so that I can busk this spring in Baltimore and Mark's emails are really inspirational and I look forward to them every week.
I am really busy with six lessons per month and daily practice but I always pour over the material that Mark sends. He gives great insights, personal experiences and tips and I only wish that I had more time to spend on the course. My stupid job gets in the way.
The times that I have reached out to Mark he has responded quickly and personally and I was kind of pleasantly surprised. The advice was superb and I followed it. I am really glad that I am in this program.
