Unclear listing, Bought wrong item, Charged me $200 of "restocking" fee
TL;DR Unclear listing, accidentally buy the wrong item, return the unused item to manufacture, charged me $200 restocking fee lying they'll have "sell it as used"
I was looking around for an AGM Taipan TM15-384 Thermal monocular. Saw one at a decent price, not too good to be true, on PrimeBuy. But it wasn't actually it, rather a lower grade TM15-256 version.
The title was "AGM Global Vision 3092851012TA51 Taipan Thermal Imaging Monocular" There were options for a detection range of 708m and 458m. The description had very little info. I knew the Taipan TM15-384 had advertised a detection range of 708m, so I assumed it had to be it. The TM15-256 was a version just released, with lower resolution, and I wasn't aware of its existence. To be fair to PrimeBuy, they did list the correct part number but I didn't think about looking it up after matching the advertised detection range. Which turned out to be exactly the same between the 384 and 256 versions and it just didn't come to me "3092851012TA51" was the part number. They have also since updated the listing to include more details, while not acknowledging it lacked sufficient info before,
After receiving the item, which shipped directly from AGM (manufacture), I found out immediately it was the wrong model after opening the box. Did not use it at all and requested a return. I was redirected to AGM to complete this procedure. I ask PrimeBuy if the restocking fee would apply, they said it depends on the condition when they receive it. I shipped the product to AGM and after a week I received a refund. But PrimeBuy kept $200, for a "15% restocking fee". I asked them why I was charged so much. PrimeBuy said because "they'll have to sell it as used" Which is strange considering I returned it to the manufacturer directly, and it was perfectly new. I asked AGM, the manufacture if they had deducted some of the money refunded to PrimeBuy. AGM said they credited PrimeBuy 100% of the money.
Now I was pretty unhappy for being lied about how PrimeBuy had lost money. I message them again, stating I will pay for the initial shipping plus $15 of handling fees, which sounds pretty reasonable since all they do is pass my order to the manufacture. And PrimeBuy said "it's their policy to charge restocking fee" So they feel fine taking $200 over an unclear listing, telling me it's to cover their loss when they had zero loss. I have never seen an online retailer have such a ridiculous policy. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy anything from them.
I don't even know why this shop exists, the price for the TM15-256 was the same as the manufacture MSRP, above market price, I could have ordered directly from the manufacturer without all this crap.
I rarely go out of my way to leave negative reviews of a company. This is the worst experience with all the online retailers I've bought from.
