Rocky Mountaineer don’t refund
Rocky Mountaineer are rip offs. Do not book with them. Ever.
We paid over $11,000 AUD for a short tour in June and with COVID19 measures approaching we decided to cancel 60 days prior to our tour and take the 80% refund as per the terms and conditions that were in place at the time of booking.
We were advised by email that days earlier to our cancellation, Rocky Mountaineer unilaterally changed their terms and conditions and confirmed in writing that a 100% cancellation fee would apply. They sent an invoice for the entire amount of the tour and we got nothing back.
When we challenged them they responded that their position was final. Our case was escalated right up to senior management.
We are fortunate in that I am a retired lawyer and my husband has extensive litigation experience having run is own businesses. Therefore even though we were in Australia, we researched and understood our rights under Canadian Law and we pursued Rocky Mountaineer and eventually they refunded 80% of our fare.
However, we are an exception. There are thousands of others that we know of on social media who have not received a refund. Some people are elderly and have saved for a “trip of a lifetime” and others are terminally ill and cannot use a travel credit.
Rocky Mountaineer should be ashamed.
