Loving the amount of time that Shortform saves me! Highly recommend it.

I was treated with exceptional customer service! They have an outstanding product that really helped me learn more about subjects that interested me from the most credible books.

Their summaries are thoughtful and they even provide additional context or comparison from other books on the subject.

As a new user to shortform i am very happy with how the app is presented and how easy it is to use. The in - app navigation is straight forward and informative. Having the tools to be able to scan through various categories and genres and to be able to funnel down and pinpoint exactly the type of book/s you have been looking for is incredible. I will for sure be using it for the future of my reading, a true time saver for gaining knowledge and satisfying reading curiosities.

I love the summaries, particularly the additional and supporting information. The daily summaries are a great reminder to investigate the offerings.

**Repeated Charges After Cancellation Attempts**

I would strongly caution others before signing up for Shortform.

I have made several attempts to cancel my subscription and have contacted customer service multiple times to resolve the issue. Despite this, I continue to be charged. What makes this worse is that, when I check my account under “billing,” it does not clearly show that I am on a paid plan, nor can I view a clear payment history.

That lack of transparency is unacceptable. Customers should be able to see what they are being charged for, cancel without friction, and access their billing records without having to chase customer service.

At this point, my experience has been deeply frustrating and has left me with very little trust in the company’s billing practices. I would not recommend Shortform to anyone unless they are prepared for a difficult cancellation process and the possibility of continued charges.

Based on my experience, avoid signing up.

I really don't like the books being read by Ai as opposed to a real person. It makes it a lot harder to follow please can you change this if not I think I will have to cancel my subscription

Inconsiderate and greedy, ridiculous not able to refund an accidental year long subscription well over hundreds of dollars. Don’t use this platform.

Stupid annual subscription. My goal was just to try it out and I forgot to cancel. I hate that companies do this. Now I'm out $200 bucks for something in not gonna use.

A wide variety of books to choose from with great options to consume information.i enjoyed and will continue to explore more titles. Highly recommend or try the free trial and experience yourself.

I think the form is good. I just don’t find a lot of the content useful. It has allowed me to scan a lot of material though, so I think it does its job.

I need to find a better way of answering the questions I have about leadership, strategy, and understanding people. If you can use an agent that leverages all your summaries, you might be able to suggest more useful content. That would make the tool a true 5

Need to charge based on number of books accessed. Clicking on recommended book in email does not go to book. Seems like more shortform books are needed as it seems too few are covered, with same topics over and over.

Short form summarized a book that I was interested in very well! This is a great tool/source.

Pros

The core content quality is genuinely strong. The summaries are well written, concise, and effective, with the one-page summaries often being more than sufficient for many books.

When available, the detailed chapter-level summaries are excellent and were actually the main reason I decided to subscribe after trying the trial. They provide much more depth and make the platform significantly more valuable.

The text-to-speech (TTS) voice quality is also impressive—clear, natural, and pleasant to listen to.

Cons

Before subscribing, I was under the impression that detailed chapter-by-chapter summaries were a standard feature across all books, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Some books only offer the one-page summary, and there’s currently no clear way to know this beforehand. That lack of transparency can be disappointing, especially if chapter-level depth is one of the main reasons for subscribing.

The TTS feature, while good in terms of voice quality, feels limited in execution. Each book appears to have only one voice option, and the text highlighting during narration is slightly out of sync, which affects the reading/listening experience.

The platform also feels noticeably slow. Navigating between tabs, books, and lists often feels sluggish, which makes the overall experience less polished than expected for a premium product.

A built-in dictionary or quick word lookup feature is also missing, which feels like a fairly basic expectation for a reading-focused platform.

Finally, for a premium subscription, the platform could offer more value-added features. Things like reading analytics, engagement insights, discovery tools, or other intelligent enhancements would make the experience feel much more complete.

Suggestions

- Clearly label each book’s summary format before users open it (e.g., Detailed Chapter Breakdown vs. One-Page Summary Only). This would set proper expectations and improve trust.
- Add multiple voice options for TTS and improve synchronization between narration and highlighted text.
- Optimize the platform’s overall speed and responsiveness, especially for navigation.
- Introduce a built-in dictionary or instant word lookup feature.
- Add analytics and discovery features such as popularity indicators, reader engagement metrics, completion tracking, personalized reading insights, or recommendation intelligence.

Creative Feature Idea

A nice UX improvement would be hover-based book previews. When hovering over a book, users could instantly see useful metadata such as:

- Author name
- Publication/release date
- Your personal rating
- Last read date
- Completion status
- Estimated reading/listening time
- Popularity among users / trending indicator

This would make browsing feel much richer, faster, and more interactive without forcing extra clicks.

Overall

Shortform has a strong foundation because the actual content quality is good. However, the surrounding product experience—transparency, performance, usability, and premium feature depth—still has room to improve significantly.

I prefer to do the audio and read it simultaneously and your version of the audio did not have a highlighted follow along so I used one of my other apps call speechify to actually do the audio and it actually highlights the words as it reads otherwise I would have given you a 5.
