We received a fake message noting a spelling mistake on one of our sites that didn't exist.
How effective can this kind of "marketing" really be?

Scam reach out via web form telling us we have a mispelled word that doesn't actually exist on our site (ie. "elit").
The email contact is from a gmail so that should be a dead giveaway.
Sends contact form spam; trial shows fake & incorrect results
Sends contact form spam, mentioning a mis-spelled word on our website. I corrected that one, then tried spellscan.com to scan the rest of our website. It said, "Ooops! You have some spelling issues. These are words that are not contained in our extended English dictionary.
… coronavirus
… lockdown …"
*If only* there were no such words, eh!
More seriously, it also claimed that there was a broken link on our website – but blurred the result unless I paid. As we have only a few pages, I was still able to see which page they claimed had a broken link… and all of the links on that page were working.
Scam and spam.

I got a spam email from "Steve Nelson 413-787-6432" stating that I spelled something wrong on my website and that "silly mistakes ruin your site's credibility". A) the word wasn't spelled wrong, and B) no one appreciates being told they have silly mistakes. However, here's a silly mistake: Spamming people with horsesh_t.

Scammy tactics by using bots to use a website's contact form to contact the owner with a 'friendly' message to tell them they have a spelling mistake on their site, and just 'helpfully' mention that they use SpellScan.com to help avoid spelling mistakes.
This is spam
This is spam. "John" used my website's contact form, even checking the GDPR acceptance box and getting around my spam checking tool. Absolute rubbish. Told me I had spelled "Mary" wrong! What a dirty way to try and get business. Stop targeting non-profits in particular, nothing is more frustrating than sifting through this junk to find genuine messages.

I am thankful Kelly called my attention to a misspelled word on my site. It was on the second line so pretty much the first thing folks saw. It is corrected . Not sure how or why I received the email but glad I did.

The stupid idea that you would contact me about a word that I know for sure is not on my website is insane.

Scam. Maddie needs a refresher in English vs American English. Rigour is indeed the correct spelling.
Spam
Spam. Claimed I misspelled a word that doesn’t even appear anywhere on my website. Didn’t click the link or reply as I knew ‘fulsome’ wasn’t a word I had even used. Don’t know what would have happened if I followed the link...but I assume they would want me to sign up for a service I don’t want or need.

Scam. Waisting your and my time with stating you spelled something wrong that is not spelled wrong.
Spammers/scammers
Funny! Emailed me to tell me I had spelt approximately wrong , as a dyslexic person I take this with a pinch of salt as I check several times and if I’ve missed it so be it lol
- It looks like you've misspelled the word "approximatly" on your website. I thought you would like to know :). Silly mistakes can ruin your site's credibility. I've used a tool called SpellScan.com in the past to keep mistakes off of my website.

Hi "Maria",
That is very kind of you to point out my dyslexia. Now please remove me from your spam list. I have a copy of your IP.
