From Start to Finish, everything was great

I recently had the pleasure of selling my second-hand MacBook Pro to Spring.co.uk, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with their service. From start to finish, everything was phenomenal, especially as an end-user.

Firstly, I received a package to send my MacBook through, which made the process so easy and hassle-free. I simply had to follow the instructions and send it off. Secondly, the valuation that I received was more than fair and comparable to other companies. It was evident that Spring.co.uk is committed to providing their customers with the best possible price for their devices.

What impressed me the most, however, was the professionalism of their team. Their customer support was top-notch - they were always available to answer any questions I had and provided me with prompt updates on my device's status. I was also pleasantly surprised at how fast the payment process was. As soon as my device was received and inspected, the money was transferred to my account.

Overall, I am one hundred percent satisfied with their service, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to sell their second-hand devices. In fact, I'm such a big fan of their service that I hope they open their online shop soon. Their website was easy to navigate, and the tech report was a great feature that allowed me to see exactly where my device stood.

Cheeky lowball offer

I liked the reusable packaging they sent and ease of the process.

I disliked the offer price was £420 but they only offered £301 once received. The phone is immaculate having had covers on it from day 1, I’ve had it back and still cannot see any damage or signs of wear - it’s literally pristine.
It would appear Spring are chancing their luck with a lowball offer having not provided any evidence of their findings (which I knocked back).

*update - I got the phone back and sent it on to another company who immediately transferred me £414 for it. Confirming what the phone was worth and that Springs offer was a lowball attempt to rip me off.

We'd much rather have happy customers and keep the item as all the postage is at our cost, but we do have to pay what we think the phone is worth.

The company damage your phone

The company damage your phone. De-value it significantly and take no responsibility for damage while they have the technology. They frankly complete a joke of an investigation into your complaint, requesting that you have a photograph of the phone before sending (which I would advise everyone who tries to use this service to do) but ignore when the same is requested of them.
Never have any phones which I have traded in been damaged before, therefore why would you expect to require it?
Don't be fooled that they will complete a proper investigation into your complaint, they will ask for details the dismiss any response after they have defined yet unsubstantiated that the believe correct procedures in handling your equipment have been followed. Clearly not the case as they have damaged the phone.

I can appreciate that you remain unhappy but we did take your complaint very seriously and have fully investigated it.

It is pretty standard across the industry to ask customers to take 'before' pictures. And we agree with your recommendation that everyone does this. There's an area in our Spring accounts for these to be uploaded and also the comparison website you used recommends this to everyone.

We don't as standard take picture on arrival but we do note the condition of the phone. The damage is noted on the description of the device at that point. I'm not sure that pictures of the damage in this case would be any more persuasive than the noted condition as these could be taken at any time by us where as customers before picture are taken before it is send in.

We have many processes in place when handling the devices to ensure that they are not damaged as any damage would be detrimental to us as well as the customer. We also did a full investigation with our workshop. So considering everything we are satisfied that we didn't cause any damage to the phone.

Great service

So easy to use. Quick & effective. No hassle at all & money was in my bank the day after I accepted my offer which they didn’t try to deduct any off for silly reasons.

Very efficient and quick service…

Very efficient and quick service using the provided pouch which was easy to use. Only slight downside is the funds paid which were about one third down on the quoted price however a ok price given.

Unfortunately there were scratches, scuffs and paint chips on all sides of the phone so this didn't meet our definition of 'good' and that's the reason for the price change.

Was quoted 520 and when they confirmed…

Was quoted 520 and when they confirmed the price it went down to 375. There reasoning was the screen had signs of use...the phone was 2 weeks old and had a screen protector on for the whole time. I know full well there was no marks on the front or the back of the phone.

Really quick and easy to use

Really quick and easy to use. Good value provided for phone compared to other sites. I had an issue with the account I set up but that was my fault forgetting which email I used 🙃. Customer services really quick to respond, matter sorted and money transferred the same day. Would definitely recommend 👌

unrealistic valuation

I was impressed until I got the valuation. The phone passed all checks and had 99% battery capacity, but due to ‘signs of use’ they knocked off £120. I mean, a used phone will have signs of use, right? But it didn’t have a single scratch on it (I took photos!) and was literally never out of its case, less than a year old, and had had a screen protector on it. Every single test passed but they knocked off almost 25%.
I then had problems withdrawing funds because their site would not accept my bank details.
Wish I had asked for it back but had a family emergency and had no choice but to go with it. Wouldn’t use them again.

Edit: £120 worth of wear? Interesting that you would expect a phone of that age to be totally box fresh? If not, why are you offering such high estimates when you know you won't meet them?
And no, the bank issue wasn't solved by using different details. I had the same issue with 2 accounts. The solution was to set my account as the default, which nobody told me.

Hi Claire - not all phones that are sold to us are used, and some are used a couple of times, other a year or two (like yours) and some used until they no longer work. That's why we and the C&R website you used has different condition categories and different prices for these. The initial price given is based on the condition declared by the customer.

When we receive the device we inspect it and in your case your phone did have some wear, especially on the sides which is visible on your before pictures. This meant that we couldn’t pay the top price.

I'm very sorry you had an emergency and so felt you had to take the offer but we do offer quick and free returns. I can also see that you had problems withdrawing as there was an issue with the first bank details you entered, this was sorted by using different details.

Used spring as was advised were quick and would give a reasonable price, Price was good unfortunately had to wait 7 days for payment and they advertise 24 or less not good !

Thanks for the additional info Brian. I do think there's been some confusion here as I can see your phone was processed within 24 hours of receiving it.

On 17th November you placed an order on a comparison website to sell your phone. We sent out our prepaid pouch for you to send the phone to us. We received the phone on 24th around 11.30. The final value was confirmed on 25th around 7.45am. I can see an email was sent to you to confirm the final value was ready.

As part of our process customers get an online account to track process and to securely and quickly accept the final value and withdraw it. I can see that you uploaded pictures to this account before sending in your device. It seems you logged in and withdrew the money on 1st December. So although it took you 7 days to withdraw it the money had been ready since 25th.

I can't see that you got in touch with us along the way and hopefully it was clear we're always happy to help and you can contact us on webchat on our website in a couple of clicks. If anything wasn't clear please do send us any feedback you have for us as we'd love to hear more.

Quick service but offered nearly £100…

Quick service and good communication but offered nearly £100 less than quoted, phone was in mint condition with 85% battery life (sent photos to prove this) as had always had a screen protector and cover on it. Sent to Meelie who quoted £2 less than Spring and sent me the full amount the same day. Wouldn’t waste my time with spring again and definitely worth rejecting the offer and sending elsewhere.
