Reached out for help and no advisers available to take a call, put me through to national debt line and no answer in 50 mins

Be careful who you trust. I contacted another company before Stepchange. They turned out to be scammers. I started getting calls from someone claiming to be a debt collector. Be sure of who You are speaking to and contact StepChange first.

I was worried about the online application because a lot of information is required. I seriously worried about giving information after the previous scam company that I had talked to. However this company is 100% legitimate.

Cons..
Hard to reach by phone.

Some emails were not responded to.

I have not been informed if creditors have stopped or reduced interest.

Pro's

Breathing space was easy to apply for and gave me 2 months in order to fix my urgent bills like car repair and missed housing service charges.

My creditors have never called me since this plan was in place.

1 easy payment to StepChange and they do everything. Budgeting is much easier as everything is paid on pay day.

You can pay by standing order. So you can choose a payment date that suits you.

If your financial situation changes then you can ask to pay more or less.

The budget that you complete online is very comprehensive and includes everything.

Now the important stuff......

Perfect, just perfect. Compared to my previous financial situation. I can breath again. I have a budget that is easy to stick to and I'm no longer struggling financially. No more scary letters. No more threatening calls. I can breath again and I can sleep at night without worrying. I have money in my pocket now and my debts are being paid.

I wanted to give this charity 4 stars because they are difficult to contact by phone but then I realised they are a charity and they are probably under pressure with lots of others to help.

Final thoughts.....

Facing up to my financial situation was the hardest part. I was in over my head and I was afraid to open my post. In fact I was terrified. This was the hardest part. My anxiety and stress levels were through the roof. This was the hardest part of setting up a debt management plan. I'm not going to lie. This was tough.

Now I'm happier than I have been in years. Contacting StepChange has been one of the best decisions of my life. I'm glad I faced up to the fear of my finances. I suggest that you do the same.

Give it a go. I promise you will be happier.

This service supported me with an IVA from start to finish. They provided non judgemental options and explained things perfectly. They kelts me updated with the process and explained the actions required from me. I felt massively supported and relieved when it was finalised.
Highly recommend even if you are just requiring advice around budgeting.

Great service when I was onboarded a few years ago, however having found myself in the situation to potentially settle my debts, I have been so frustrated trying to discuss this. Absolutely terrible wait times across multiple days and times, with wait times of over 45 minutes and being cut off several times. If I was a sceptic I would think they didn't want me to "Settle"

Stepchange is brilliant, the IVA team is very friendly, life savers ,helped me through each step.

My DMP is now repaid. I am debt free. And so, so happy I made the decision to contact Stepchange. They treated me like a human being, no judgement. If you are unsure, make that call. Change your situation, change your life.

Awful customer service, did everything the asked for took ages to even set up as they were asking questions that I already answered while setting it up like 3 times same question, then after all that hustle they said I need phone, what else is needed shoes size? Hoodie size? Absolutely awful for me anyway I am contacting ombudsman about that got all the screenshots now that I needed.

Such nice people to deal with, helped me set up a a manageable DMP, liased with debtors to come to a workable monthly payment. Without Step change I would have been in financial ruin.

Through out the years I have been with step change they have always been very helpful and supportive in their dealings with my late husband and myself.

Step Change took all the stress and worry out of paying my depts off at the worst time in my life . They created my DMP with myself & set up the payment plan . I then did not have to have any further communication with the organisations I was in dept with. All I had to do was commit to the monthly payment . They were always available to talk to when I needed to talk to them. I felt they always had my best interest at heart. Now I am completely dept free ! I would recommend their services to anybody 100%

You could adjust payments too suit what you can afford

Clear information and instructions. Hassle-free, no judgement and regular, appropriate contact. Can all be completed online with relative ease. Able to amend monthly payment amounts whenever required. Nearer the end of the debt, DD automatically amended to a smaller amount if monthly payments exceed the remainder. An exemplary service that I highly recommend. It gives you peace of mind and enables you to live a comfortable life whilst still in debt.

Stepchange helped me tremendously over the past years to become Debt free. They were very sympathetic and put every thing in place with my creditors very efficiently. This took a huge weight and stress off of me. I would recommend Stepchange to anyone instantly that are having financial problems.
