Despite the bus 20 minutes late to pick us up, the day started well. Brief stop in Interlakken but not really long enough to explore the town. On the way to Grindleweld, the snow began to fall & the coach rear tyres were slipping from the road. Spent a lovely few hours up the mountain. We had to be back at the pick up place for 15:40pm. Everyone was there - except the bus! After 30 minutes of standing in the falling snow, the guide told us that the bus was late during to putting chains on his tyres and he would be there in 20 minutes. After this 20 minutes passed, the guide took us the Grindleweld Information Centre & told us the bus would pick us up soon. After a further 30 minutes, the guide said that the bus was ready but the driver couldn’t drive up the hill so we had to walk which would take 30 - 40 minutes. Taking the previous timings, we all knew this would take longer. There were people with health issues so these walks were not easy. We waited on a petrol station forecourt & the driver arrived & stopped on the opposite side of the road. He then had the audacity to tell us to hurry up!! There were no chains on his tyres so what the hell had he been doing?
Now on the bus, we had to pick up remaining passengers from their pickup places and start the drive back to Luzern only to be advised that Luzern passengers would be dropped off at a service to pick up another bus. True to form, the Best of Switzerland Tours time scales were very inaccurate. Eventually, we swapped buses and were finally back in Luzern at 20:50pm.
I appreciate weather is unpredictable but Switzerland is used to snow. We later learned that a 2nd Best of Swiss bus wasn’t able to drive in the snow. You would really think the bus drivers would be geared up for the weather. The bus driver’s attitude was awful. The guides were lovely and gave us information as they received it. They were in the same situation as us passengers. What should have been a lovely was memorable for the wrong reasons.
Final gripe - the WC on the bus was out of order
The Tour Guide on an Excursion from Get your guide (The best of Switzerland) is openly racist. She gets an F for effort and a HUGE "R" for Racist and Rude. She was Extremely dismissive and blatantly bias & partial to the Caucasian guests. If you stood in line to ask a question, she promptly & happily answered questions for Caucasian Tourists. When a person of color was inquisitive, she walked away or pretended not to see you there. She became extremely annoyed when a group of Hindu Tourists asked why the bus wasn't taking the group back to the pickup point. (Sihlquai bus station) Taking deep breaths and rolling her eyes like they were bothering her.
I have booked with Get your guide over the years, Indonesia , Africa, Italy, Costa Rica ect. I have NEVER had an issue like this.. I let them know what occurred. They took her account and saught to place blame on ME for asking questions that were NOT clearly explained! "You accelerated" the situation by asking too many questions, Wrote a Get your guide Representative; who was writing as if they were shoulder to shoulder during the Tour watching every moment. I asked 3 questions in 5 HOURS!! Where is the Restroom and I asked about how we were going to get back to the starting point, 3 questions in 5 HOURS!
"I'll tell you at the end"... "I'll explain everything at the end", the "Guide" kept saying. At the end?!! We have lives to plan from the Tour. She made these statements, Many times to a lot of people, openly on the Tour. We all needed answers at that time, especially because we were left to take a Tram to get back to where we were picked up!
I mean seriously.
A woman (Tourist) on The Tour lost her credit card (Caucasian ) this woman STILL took in the role of assisting people of color to validate their tickets while the "Guide" watched unconcerned. I thanked that Tourist, she deserved the appreciation! There are cameras all over that Pay Kiosk that will show what I am saying. Even she felt the need to step in when she saw what was happening.
By the way, the "guide" was irritated by questions, but made US ALL wait while the lost credit card Lady went to a bank to speak to someone about the card. All the while, I had asked about a restroom! "We'll just wait, she needs to speak to someone about this". Fine, but do you get what I am saying about clear bias?
An African man helped many Tourists; telling them to exit the ferry at a certain point, to not get left behind, while the "Guide" watched without a care in the world. Let's face it, Racism is every where however when a Company FOSTERS the behavior and tries to blame the blameless it's SHAMEFUL. If Google would allow it, I would POST the email exchange where they blamed me for standing up for myself. I asked too many questions?! Like.... what?! This excuses discrimination to them. Apparently I deserved to be treated like crap the whole Tour for asking how NOT to get lost. Apparently I should have just stood silent like a coward and took the prejudice treatment.
It's 2025, and when you speak your truth, some people will still try to deflect and make you look like you're the problem for speaking your truth! Egregious behavior! Deplorable --
There are WAAAAAY too many Tour Companies out there that support Diversity and different Cultures. Support those Companies, NOT those that try to divert blame! I experienced the Worst of Switzerland today and left the Tour early holding back tears in a place where I knew no one and felt so alone. DO NOT FUND RACISM. Book elsewhere! This is also on Google Reviews, I can't post pictures here.
We had booked the Cruise and Chocolate Tour.
Our Guide was Monica.
We had a great experiance from start to end and Monica was an availlable, service minded and professional guide. I recomend both the company and spcifically Monica very highly.
We had booked a city tour of Zurich followed by a visit to a chocolate factory.
The guide was authoritarian in her manner of demanding that the sticker be worn on a particular place.
The tour was very poor, primarily because one could not hear the guide since it was such a large group and there was no hearing devices.
On arrival at the chocolate factory the guide was officious. I have been on many tours and she is the most officious guide i have ever met.
