Sandy is a great teacher, she has incredible soft skills which makes the downtime per session extremely low (I take 1:1 sessions). She also accommodates to the student needs and adapts to what works better for them in their learning process.

Her english is perfect too, which has been an issue for me before with other language teachers.

Sandy is an exceptional teacher. My speaking and writing skills have improved exponentially since I began meeting with her. She has a great sense of humor and makes learning Mandarin very fun. Every week she prepares personalized lessons according to my topics of interest and HSK level. We have a wide variety of discussions that are always engaging and have built in grammar and/or vocabulary lessons.

She gives me room to make mistakes and just try my best in a nonjudgmental space, which has made me so much more confident speaking out in public as well. Meeting with Sandy is always a highlight of my week, and I would definitely recommend her lessons to any prospective students!

I have been Sandy’s student for a bit over a year now. Sandy has been a great teacher for getting me to the next level of conversational mandarin. She always prepares lessons ahead of time on useful and interesting topics, and provides flash cards for study as well. She is also really fun to work with! I find the lessons engaging and helpful.

My lovely Taiwanese wife is amazing in so many ways but one thing she’s not is patient with my TONES when speaking Mandarin. We would argue all the time and after a while I would just stop trying to speak mandarin all together. Sandy is the best, the reviews don’t lie, I read them all! She is so so patient and just a kind person! Sandy can be tough but she pushes you to be better and I respect that. She really tries to match your energy toward learning which is another plus. Lastly, I was so confident after a year of taking classes with Sandy, as a musician I decided to write my first song in Mandarin. I was also so confident that I changed my Major to Chinese and skipped Chinese 101 and 102 and jumped into Chinese 103 and got an “A’. I’m so stoked and enjoy our sessions together. Sandy is an amazing teacher whose passion and energy really shine through in her classes. As an American-born Chinese who regrets not taking language learning seriously at a young age, I credit Sandy’s classes with helping me reconnect with my roots and culture. Since taking her classes, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my Chinese and am now able to express myself in different situations. She makes every lesson memorable and thoughtfully tailored to you, often remembering details you mentioned weeks ago and keeping your requests in mind. Sandy helped me get out of a 5-year chinese learning rut. She focuses on individualizing her curriculum to your needs. She's the most prepared teacher I've ever had. Every single class, she has prepared exercises and lessons that build on the things we discussed previously, even if they weren't a part of the actual coursework. Classes are a mixture of formal lessons and free-form conversation to practice listening and speaking.

My Chinese level is also weird. I have a lot of exposure to Chinese, but I'm solidly intermediate at best. A lot of things I've studied and forgotten. For that reason, typical curricula are weird for me. Lessons are often too easy or too hard just based on what I've been exposed to. Sandy reacts to this, and ensures that class is supplemented with interesting learnings, even if the lesson is primarily things I've studied before.

She's also great at identifying areas of struggle and bringing them up class after class until they "click". And she's genuinely excited when they do eventually click -- you can tell she is invested in your personal progress, much more than other teachers I've had in the past.

It goes without saying, but she's also punctual, reachable, and thoroughly professional.

She has a keen ear and sharp memory that’ll take note of common mistakes you make and build them into future lessons. Since then, I’ve been taking classes with her for over a year and I’ve learnt so very much.
