No moral compass

Alana, Melinda, Brad at the call center are all liars. No moral compass. I was told several times there wasn't any money in the account. They had started another account in my dead Father's name. Once they saw I wouldn't go away they found it but employed several tactics to keep money. No telling how much they cost good people who trusted them. DO NOT TRUST THE HARTFORD!!!

Hardford insurance should be called heartless

I bought a new car and transferred the insurance from my older car to the new car both with Hartford.22 days later I received scancelation of my comprehensive and collision coverage without any warning. Called Hartford and was told I needed a third party inspection thru them within 21 days of insurance coverage.i got the auto inspected thru them and had faxed of cargo report to them 1 from third party 1 from me .i have the receipt. Called Hartford twice to reinstate insurance and told them I cannot risk driving car with out the insurance. First call they cannot help me second call the agent hung up on me. This is not right this is not customer service this is a heartless company. Not doing the right thing for customer

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL customer service. My husband called to pay our car insurance by credit card when the first customer service rep said that there would be $38 fee to pay be credit card. He said that he would pay it by check and hung up. After he hung up, he looked threw all our paperwork to see where that fee was mentioned (which there was not) so he called back. When he asked the second rep about the charge, the rep said that it was on The Hartford's website. My husband then said that the information was no where on their paperwork and billing, the rep said "did you just call to be argumentative sir?" My husband was only calling the second time to ask questions about the charge. In no way was he being rude or "argumentative". He then asked to speak to a supervisor and the rep said that there wasn't a supervisor, that a supervisor will call him in 24 hours. Needless to say, we will be looking for another insurance company, not like The Hartford cares. We WILL be telling EVERYONE what horrible customer service they have and to stay away

Called and spoke with Terika regarding a business idea quote. Very detailed and she transferred me to a company who only does workers comp claims. Complete waste of time. She was empathetic on the phone anyways, short in her answers.

Called for a Quote and Got a Bait-and-Switch

I called to get a quote on general liability insurance. After answering over 15 questions with an AI, I was given a representative. They asked me a few more questions, then said "is it ok for me to forward you to Gaslight Insurance Company?" (who I found has a 2.3 customer rating). I said wait, who are they? The customer service rep said that they would be giving me a quote. I said "but I was calling for Hartford Insurance, not for some other company!". She said she was sorry, but she could try again and see who comes up on her screen as far as companies she can send me to for a quote. She tried again and got some other company "Affordable...?" and I said no. After being on the phone for over 20 minutes, I ended up requesting a supervisor to explain the situation to me. Once he was on the line, he said that they are "working on behalf of Hartford" and are a company called "Tivly" who screens all the calls and directs people to different insurance companies if they don't meet Hartford's standards. I let him know I've been in business for over 8 years, and have had GL insurance with zero claims. He wasn't able to tell me what the screening process was, or why they wouldn't even speak to me or give me a quote! Wow. I'm shocked at the slight-of-hand trickery of these folks. Call Hartford for a quote, get sent to a different insurance company with bad ratings for a quote instead! So, does Hartford get a piece of the money I would have paid if I was to have fallen for the scheme of trusting them to refer me to another insurance company with no explanation? Really Hartford? Thanks for making a good, long-standing company feel not good enough for you, and showing me what a scam Hartford has become. I am relieved I didn't get insurance from you and hope others realize how you and your pals at Tivly take advantage of businesses.

Have been waiting on a short term…

Have been waiting on a short term disability claim for a month! Communication with them is completely terrible. Instead of calling or emails stating they need additional paperwork they will just send a letter stating they will close your claim. I have called and verified all paperwork was sent and received then come to find out my case worker is away. Do we not assign to another worker? Been out of work for 6wks due to surgery and have not received a dime. Spent most of my time calling them then I actually did recovering from surgery

Seniors BEWARE -

Awful customer service. Horrible listening skills. NO help. Great records do not matter. E.G: Home Insurance premium was too high. Jumped significantly with no claims record.Been with Hartford for years. We are seniors. Asked Hartford to lower dwelling number first from 719K then we can talk about maybe increasing deductible. They use to tweak and lower slightly. They have a NEW system of a NEW BUILD calculator for that particular year. That will always raise your assessment on your dwelling. They know that but you won't know that. Instead of working with my 19 year rate to slightly lower, they said now that they looked at that NEW BUILD number, they have to keep me at a $300K+ increase on dwelling to 1M+!!! Waited three days for a manager to call back. ACTED like they value loyalty and could remedy the situation. They do not listen well, they did not change a thing but offer for me to keep this 300+K increase and for me to have higher deductible. A big win for Hartford, but we were screwed royally. All for saying yes please look into how I can lower the dwelling number. They see the screen - you don't -and they trick you into saying yes complete it. They let me plead to three people to change back to 719K from 1M, but would not budge. Awful communication, NO concern for reasonable fair remediation. Stay away, Going elsewhere.

My quote did not ADD UP & crazy link went to login page I never setup

This is almost too bizarre! Called for a Quote since their site blew up yet again. Got numbers for Auto of $167.50/month w/ discount for 6 month payment at $905. They emailed confirmation which was in Klingon Math. It still had the $167.50/month but the 6 month was NOW $1022! 167.50x6 (months) = $1005 THAT'S $17 MORE than paying monthly!!! They also said it was a "$51 discount" - TO WHAT?! If they can't do MATH, why would you sign up with 'em. Tried to use the link to "review" the quote and took me to a login page without any way to login!!! Threw HTML error with any input too. WOOOooow! Not for me, HOW 'BOUT YOU?

Hartford insurance really needs to do…

Hartford insurance really needs to do better. If you are ever in an accident involving someone covered by Hartford be ready to have a half ass job done. I did not file a medical claim although I was a little sore after the accident, but I never thought they would not fix everything that was wrong with my car. My car has been acting as if it does not want to start after being hit by a work van insurances by Hartford. They told me they could correlate it to the accident!!! Bull they did the bare minimum and now I will have to get my insurance to cover something they did !!! The employees I was paired with were terrible especially Rich very unprofessional , very passive , he don’t care period l. I am reporting Hartford to The BBB.

These degenerates will deny your claim

These degenerates will deny your claim and not tell you why. They will refuse to notify you of missing information, deny your claim, and then make you wait for a letter in the mail to explain it. All while you’re sick and struggling for money. These spineless cowards are abusing sick people.

Don’t use this company for car insurnce

Not once did the agent I spoke to listen to my understanding of the damage to my car. She was simply the mouthpiece of an adjuster who never viewed the damage in person. Her goal was simply to convey a decision that had already been made. This is not customer service. It is a complete negation of concern for customers. I might as well have talked to a wall. I did not exist except as a problem to be handled.

Working with The Hartford has been horrible to say the least. From the beginning they give a low quote only to charge thousands of dollars more for "miscalculations". First year thought ok maybe it was a mistake, but it only got worse. Charged every two months over a thousand dollars for the miscalculations, horrible customer service, constantly lied to that the calculations are now correct only to be charged thousands again, after filling out the audit they realized they never sent me a second one then are charging me for them having to "estimate" what it will be when all the information is the same from the other audit, you can only cancel your policy if you call someone or they keep trying to charge you more and more. All this and I didn't even have to use the policies! No injuries, no issues, but Hartford charges me more because I have their name on my insurance. Don't waste your time or money with this company because it will only leave you with a headache and empty wallet. Deserves 0 stars

50+ auto insurance rate too high and

Found much cheaper rate for being retired and husband VA. Cancelled with representative telling me a check will be sent prorated from our payment. Sent over new declaration with letter in email and now I got a letter from collections telling me I owe money. WTH!!!! I had to make two calls prior telling them I sent it and resent papers so no money is due but still coming after money that should have been refunded to us. Very good records we have and was told if no accidents in beginning we get an additional discount then when asked they tell us not in our state. They are not that cheap at all saving $400.00 yearly now with new company and much better package we have. This company just because they cater to 50+, don’t let them fool you it’s all lies. And now in collections and they have to review papers again then send to Hartford to be reviewed. They need to be sued!!!

I dislike going online purchasing car…

I dislike going online purchasing car insurance. I went online and got a quote and thought I was purchasing full coverage Insurance. It was only liability. My advice to senior citizens to not go online to purchase insurance. Make sure you speak to an agent to make sure you are purchasing full coverage. Senior Citizens do not purchase insurance online speak to an agent to make sure you are getting the right Insurance.

We recently requested an auto insurance quote through AARP – The Hartford, expecting fair and competitive pricing given our strong driving history and financial background. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing.Our household consists of two drivers, ages 50 and 49, each with over 30 years of driving experience, clean records, excellent credit (700+), and homeownership. We sought coverage for two standard vehicles and provided full, accurate information. Despite every indicator of being preferred, low-risk customers, The Hartford quoted us over $5,000 every 6 months — nearly six times higher than our current premium of approximately $850 for identical coverage through Progressive. �We expected far better value considering the aggressive advertising we receive from AARP/The Hartford. We get monthly flyers promising "$597 average member savings" and exclusive discounts for bundling — yet our quote was outrageously inflated despite qualifying for every advertised benefit.Based on our experience, The Hartford’s rates through the AARP program appear significantly inflated and not aligned with competitive market standards. We strongly encourage other consumers to compare multiple quotes and not assume that an AARP-endorsed provider will automatically offer the best value.

Honestly ! Theeee worst! Having been injured to no fault of mine their process of receiving funds is grueling and awful! Disgusting! It’s 2026 nothing should be this difficult! Between them and railroad retirements it’s like we are in the 19th century

Totally ripped me off

I had the Hartford for many years. The last year that i had them, my rates sky rocketed so I switched my auto insurance to a different company. I was paid in full through July 17th and my new insurance company took over on exactly July 17th. The Hartford sent me letters and told me I still owed them 220.00. I spoke with no less than 6 different people. Half of them told me I owed nothing and I was in good standing. The other half told me I owed the 220.00 and threatened me with being sent to collections. The people I spoke with that told me I owed said that it was for insurance provided after I had already switched insurance companies but that i am obligated to pay it. i got so tired of fighting it that i am now paying it off in payments so as to avoid collections and the hit to my credit rating. I know 100% that I owe them nothing, but am still stuck paying it. I would never recommend this insurance company to anyone. I would give them zero stars if that was possible.
