Beware of this firm and vulnerable clients

write to you with a formal complaint as to the handling of my
account. As per your Complaint Handling Process I expect a
response within 8 weeks.
When I initially spoke with the firm, I asked for a set fee quote due
to shortage of funding. It was not explained to me that you did not
do fixed fee and in fact your terms of business (6.2) state that you
do, on occasion offer fixed fee assignments. The implication of
funds on account was not explained at all. The precise nature of the
amount requested further confirmed to me this was a fixed fee
arrangement. There were no terms of business shared at this stage.
On first contact with yourself I was very clear I was short on funds
and explained my situation and we discussed how that money be
saved for the next hearing. At no point did anyone contact me to
say the account was going over the initial fee agreed.
The fee almost tripled without any warning.. This is not what was
agreed or discussed at any point. I am staggered it could build to
such a huge amount without warning or discussion. I am shocked
this was allowed to happen without any check with me, especially
as it was known I’d need a loan to cover any further costs and this
has now left me in significant debt.
Furthermore, I was informed of this overspend 24 hours prior to the
court hearing and left knowing that if I didn’t pay immediately I
would be unrepresented. The emails sent were intimidating, with a
threat of no representation. I don’t believe that this is appropriate,
given the lack off communication regarding overspend, your
knowledge of my financial situation or the fact that your own Terms
(6.10) state that all bills be paid within 7 days - that was not the
case with the demands for immediate payment I received.
Whilst we had discussed the potential for taking a loan for
money if we needed a further contested case in the future, it was certainly not agreed
Terms of Business were then sent approximately 1 hour prior to the
hearing again with the clear message that if I didn’t sign and return
immediately I would be unrepresented. It is clear this was a
recognition that you had not handled this appropriately and were
minimising your risks.
This was negligent, as I had no opportunity to read and review the
document fully or query any aspects. They should have been
shared with me and fully explained at the outset.
In settlement of this matter, I request you:
1. Reimburse the overrun on account as I was not kept informed
and asked to pay with no notice and no option.
2. Review your internal processes to ensure this does not
happen to anyone else in future. All clients must have terms of
business explained to them and signed at the outset, all costs
communicated and agreed prior to work continuing, and not be
asked to pay unexpected fees in a timescale shorter than that
in your standard terms of business. This appears to be a
discriminatory practice.
3. I also request you review your vulnerability policy as it is
clearly unfit for purpose.
They are now ignoring all my correspondence for months

The Law Firm Group were Great in tackling British Airways

TLFG intervene on my behalf with British Airways on a travel claim. After 3 months, BA refused to acknowledge they has lost my golf equipment, bags, clothes etc on the flight back from Jersey.
Aviva stated they would not pay the claim until BA declared the equipment lost. The pressure from TLFG worked and Aviva promptly paid. BA should hang their collective heads in shame as it has taken 5 months for this matter to finalise.

Not professional

My mother employed them about her house deeds.A letter was sent online for her to fill in ,my mother 81 and is old school and like letters in her lap. She spoke to Kayleigh Eke and inform her that she change her mind. Kayleigh asked why she didnt want to go ahead and my mother explained about not doing it on the internet. Kayleigh reponse was very abruptly " oh right"and banged down the phone. Now a few days later she got a bill for £332 for a letter sent by email. Disgusting Never again dont go there.

Having received your comments, I have reviewed your mother’s file and listened to the telephone recording of the conversation to which you refer. Kayleigh was polite throughout and when she asked your mother why she did not wish to proceed, your mother said that she didn’t want to deal with the documents online (having confirmed twice previously to both Kayleigh and another member of staff). Kayleigh offered to post the documents or if she preferred, to call into the office to be seen personally. Your mother said that she would leave it as it was.

Our invoice was only £174 plus vat and disbursements (£232.80). Our fees covered telephone calls with yourself and your mother, a number of emails, preparing and sending the documents via Infotrack, and setting up the file.

I’m disappointed that your mother didn’t contact us so that we could have answered any queries she had in relation to our fees and the work that we had undertaken on her behalf.

We are happy to assist her at any time.

We used his firm for a commercial property lease and sale. The riginal lease cosument ha sbeen lost! The sale was delayed by the first solictor to a point here the sale fell through and then on sale funds were not paid to the agent as made out and were withheld by teh compliance partner for fees that were not justified or agreed. We then complained to the Senior partner Charles Long who does not seem to care in the least - no meaningful reply to our compliant and no apology. We are now forced to refer to the LO and potentially the SRA (depending on findings) and make a claim in respect of the lost lease which we require in a claim for unpaid rent.
Overall - DO NOT USE THS FIRM especially if client monies are to be held by them. It has no leadership and we found it unscrupulous and and the carefree and careless culture pervades from the top down. There are far less expensive and more competent firms. You will end up spending more time chasing and complaining than them doing your work and overcharging for it from your client funds without your approval.

The Law Firm Group helped me with buying my first property and I was so glad I went with them. They were happy to answer any questions I had and let me know what was happening every step of the way, which was very reassuring. Abysmal

Quite simply, the worst supposedly
"professional" firm I have ever had the
misfortune to deal with.
Missed deadlines, broken promises,
unanswered phone calls/mails & a total
disregard for the stress & upset caused to
their client.
A matter that should have been
completed within a few months took over
two years.
The case was handled by one of the
solicitors at their Hitchin Office & the level
of incompetence displayed was utterly astonishing.
The fact that there are more one star
reviews here than all other reviews
combined, tells you all you need to know
about this company.
I find the reply from the The Law Firm Group to be unnecessarily aggressive
& full of inaccuracies. I note their “disappointment “ that a negative review has been posted & ,in turn, I am surprised that they expected anything other than that.
I became involved in this at the request of my mother in law because she is 87 years old & had been left stressed and upset at the appalling service afforded to her over a period of 18 months. The only way to get them to take action was to complain and issue regular reminders. The Law Firm Group choose to describe this as “ranting” & “unpleasant” but would not have been required had the company dealt with the matter properly in the first place.
I deliberately avoided mentioning the
names of individuals in my review, but this
has not stopped the MD using this forum
to attack me personally & you can draw
your own conclusions as to the type of
company that would do this,
The fact remains that our complaint was
upheld & that the Law Firm Group issued
a full apology. They may not appreciate
that a negative review has been posted,
but they clearly recognise that their
service was abysmal otherwise there
would have been nothing to apologise for.
It is also a fact that the majority of reviews
on this site give this company the lowest
rating possible.

It is exceedingly disappointing that you have felt it necessary to write a negative review considering the fact that:

a. it was your mother-in-law who was our client, not you;
b. that we have apologised to your mother-in-law for the delay and explained the reasons for the delay (lockdown, furlough, workload through very trying times);
c. once the delay was brought to our attention, the matter was completed as quickly as possible;
d. your mother-in-law did not incur any additional costs as a result of the delay;
e. you upset a number of my staff; and
f. you sent ranting emails on almost a daily basis which made dealing with you most unpleasant, even though everyone was working hard to get this finalised as quickly as possible.

As with every law firm during lockdown, and the ensuing stamp duty holiday, the workload was overwhelming. My staff worked extraordinarily long hours every day to ensure their client's matters were completed to take advantage of the stamp duty holiday. This forced other files, not affected by the holiday, to be prioritised as non-urgent.

Every member of my staff takes a great deal of pride in their work and this is reflected in the positive feedback that we receive from clients, agents and other law firms.

On behalf of The Law Firm Group, I wish your mother-in-law all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.

I searched several solicitors online

I searched several solicitors online, from a batch I chose two and The Law Firm was one of them and were attentive in response. They got back to me swiftly.

My query was listened too, and I was appropriately triaged in-house, to the correct expertise. My solicitor critically evaluated the situation, advised and dealt with the matter excellently and provided excellent communication and summary. In the grand scheme of things with Law, the fee was very fair - which is excellent value for the customer (I was concerned about increasing costs, but I should not have been). I was provided with clear outlines of what to expect and could raise a query at anytime.

I found The Law firm customer friendly, and the in-house specialisms and expertise provided me with an excellent service that was cost effective that I was confident in.

Due to The Law Firm I was well informed, able to review the legal options and modify a contract in my best interests.

I was reassured, empowered, and impressed by Law Firm services.

My letter of advice was practical and solid and the terms were easily agreed by my third party.

I have sought the services of other solicitors before, and The Law Firm company by far was a better experience.

I highly recommend this in-house team of specialists in law, they are trustworthy, dedicated, care about their services, with capacity and ability to match you with who you need.

I’ve the Law Firm stamped on my mind and should and when I need any legal assistance again I have a network and would not hesitate to use them. Highly recommend.

Jeremy Gillham from the Hitchin office is amazing.

Jeremy went above and beyond to support us with an ILA for we needed completed and signed fairly swiftly. I really appreciate how professional he was, and how quickly he assisted us.

Initial communication was great

I contacted The Law Firm Group for conveyancing, and, while I didn't end up using them (they weren't on my lenders' approved panel), the communication was great. I was talking with Kayleigh Eke, and she responded to my emails very quickly.

Avoid - can't even be bothered to ring you back

This company took over the firm of solicitors that had written my will. I needed to update the will. I rang twice and was twice assured that someone would ring back. I never heard a thing. If they can't be bothered to ring back.....

3) When I requested a senior Solicitor to check my documents I was sent as I was apprehensive (still hadn't spoken to a Solicitor at this point, just her secretary), I was told to take my business elsewhere.
4) Incorrect spelling of names

Really really poor customer service or reconciliation. Would NOT recommend.

I'm very disappointed that you felt it necessary to post a negative review for the following reasons:

1. Your aunt emailed our office late Friday afternoon (10 Sept 2021) requesting a quote for a purchase with a 2 week completion date.
2. Understanding the urgency, on Monday morning at 07.58, you aunt was notified that her email had been passed to a senior conveyancer.
3. At 10.55, your aunt was notified that the particular senior conveyancer was on holiday and that the matter had been passed to another.
4. A secretary rang and spoke with your aunt just after 11.00. Your aunt provided the information required in order for a quote to be prepared. The quote was sent to your aunt at 11.28 on Monday 13 Sept 2021.
5. Your aunt emailed at 11.40 to say that she had sent the quote to you via whatsapp. (It is noted that your name was incorrectly spelt as Fohra rather than Vohra on the quote.)
6. You responded to the secretary at 13.30 accepting the quote.
7. The secretary sent the necessary documentation to you at 16.01.
8. At 16.19, you emailed the secretary with a list of 'concerns'.
9. The secretary responded at 16.38 with an apology for the misspelling of your name and that she had received the information from speaking with your aunt earlier in the day.
10. At 10.00 the next morning (Tuesday), you emailed our Managing Solicitor requesting that he review the documentation (he is not a conveyancer) due to your 'concerns'.
11. Our MS rightfully responded that "if you were uncomfortable at this early stage, then it would probably be best that you instruct elsewhere" as it is important to us that our clients have confidence in the excellent service we provide.

As can be seen from the above, we were conscious of the urgency of the matter, apologised for the error in the spelling but in the end, given that you hadn’t even signed our client care letter and terms of business (and therefore were technically not a client) and it had been less than 24 hours since you accepted our quote, we felt that you would be better served by another firm (potentially with whom you had already approached for a quote) to meet your needs.

On behalf of TLFG, we wish you well with your purchase and hope your new firm is able to complete within the very tight timeframe.

Avoid at all costs

When dealing with the estate of a deceased family member the law firm group, previously known as Sheppersons acted totally unprofessionally, created more stress with no attention to detail and did not complete work which had been paid for requiring another solicitor been instructed. Totally incompetent.... avoid at all costs!

We have done a full review of our files and have not been able to locate any clients with this name who utilised our Probate services. We have also attempted to contact the reviewer via Trustpilot but have not had a response. We therefore do not believe this to be a valid review.
