This company still says active on company house but it has gone under If you believe the company deliberately collected your payout from HMRC with no intention of forwarding it to you before shutting their doors, you should file a report online via Action Fraud. This now is HMRC job to put right and pay everyone who this company didnt pay. If you alert HMRC that the nominated agent has ceased trading and fraudulently withheld your money, HMRC's policy is to investigate. Historically, in cases where major repayment agents went under or acted fraudulently, HMRC stepped in to pay the taxpayers directly because the initial payout failed to reach the rightful recipient. Still waiting for a refund from April 2026

i paid £75 for a tax refund enquiry
they responded saying that they wanted more info so i sent it in
4 weeks later and many un answerd phone calls and emails still have not heard anything
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE COWBOYS !!!!!!

The company has now ceased trading. Don’t bother

You won't get a response from The Tax Refund Company as unfortunately they went out of business on the 29th July!

I used the company last year & got a refund. I opened a claim this year, sent the information requested & the email address is not working. No one answers the phone. I want a refund of my £75 fee ASAP & suggest Martin Lewis investigates this company.

So same as everyone else...paid my money...received an email,sent whats required and nothing for over 4 weeks...can't leave a message,emails bounce back...looking like a scam...avoid.

Took my money and cannot get through on phone after numerous attemps.website does not exist and e mails keep getting returned undelivered.completley unacceptable.be careful.

Hopeless, took £75 now don’t reply , over 3 months since claim started. im staring to think I’ve been conned.

I have applied through work and paid a £75 fee for the pleasure of doing so, I have received one email asking for my P60’s which I sent back on the 16th July and since then the business have been completely uncontactable, several emails sent, phoned countless times and messaged on Facebook all to no gain.

I just simply want an update as to what is happening but this seems to be impossible!

Never use this company for your Tax refunds. You pay them then they ghost you for days or keep asking for the same documents over and over . Best do it yourself this a scam.

Con artists. Worst of it is, this shower of scammers were recommended by my company’s rewards website. Feedback given. Took the money, kept emailing asking for the same information and have never heard back since. Avoid like the plague. Take your money and don’t provide a service.

I completed the initial application and paid the fee. After a few days i got an email requesting copies of certain documents etc to which i replied to. I have not heard anything for weeks; left numerous answer phone messages. Sent an email to the original response address & attempted to send an email to mel***** which doesn't seem to work.

I used this company years ago and had no problems, however this time despite completing all the forms, giving all my personal details I have not heard anything from them. I have tried phoning them, it rings and rings eventually a recorded message comes on saying all operators are on calls and that you can email them, message them on messenger or leave a message. I tried to leave a message but the mail box is full. I tried to email them but the email bounces back. I tried messenger but could not find the tax refund company. In desperation I called HMRC and they said they had no record of The Tax Refund Company contacting them.

I have given all my personal information, I have filled out all forms that have been asked of me, I have been ignored for months since with no response to my emails. this is not acceptable at all.

Have tried to contact this company over and over. No answer on telephone and just an option to leave a voicemail. Emails go unanswered. Was supposed to have someone contact me on two days time, which was nearly two months ago and can't get hold of them. Paid the upfront price option which now feels very foolish.

Paid last email I got was asking me to allow them to access my HMRC files which I did.
Heard nothing since
Tried to log into my account - says case closed but I've had no communication
Tried to call - no reply
Left messages and emails - no reply
Is this a genuine firm?

UPDATE - Someone from The Tax Refund Company has now contacted me. Like the reply below have blamed HMRC in the main. The reply that they have provided on Trust Pilot fails to address my complaints about lack of communication from The Tax Refund Company and error that they made on the claim form.

In their recent email to me they have asked for further information about the lack of replies and communication from their company and also the incorrect information they were going to submit to HMRC on my behalf. I will provide that information to them shortly.

I wanted to highlight that whilst there seems to be issues with HMRC, the level of service that I have received from this company is a separate issue and not of the standard I would expect, especially with the fees they will take if my claim is successful.

The Tax Refund Company’s response is very disappointing and tries to mask their insufficient service as wholly down to HMRC and not their error or lack of service.

Original complaint:
I am hugely disappointed at the level of service I have received from this company. Initially the claim they submitted to me to sign was incorrect which I had to email and correct. Further information was required from HMRC which I provided. I heard nothing back from them for months. I chased the company about the claim and was told that HMRC were not responding to agents queries. This email was back in November 2025. I have subsequently chased the company again and I have received no reply. I am very concerned at the standard of service and indeed whether this company is legit. I will be emailing to cancel my claim with them and going somewhere else.

I received countless emails chasing me to use them to make a claim for me. Eventually gave in and did all of the paperwork now not responding to my email requests for an update after months of waiting.
