I won’t even get in to everything that went wrong because there was a lot (all my reserved equipment not there, inadequate help, etc.) but what I am most upset about is U-Haul charging $1.00 per toll extra as an “admin fee” just to keep money for themselves. And it keeps going up! When I first got the “final” bill it was $9.80. Ok fine. Then when I went to pay it the day after Christmas it somehow was $27.70. And $12 of that is their dollar per toll scam. Companies just don’t care about the customer experience anymore. Long gone are days of honor and respect.
I hired movers to load and unload the truck in Greenville Texas. I hired them for 4 hours and they loaded the truck but it was sprinkling outside after an hour and would not unload the truck but wanted paid or they could charge us more and wait till it quit raining. We will never use u haul movers again . U haul is not responsible for the third party contractors.the name of the company was Mundo Word !!! Beware !
Horrible. Don’t bother with this company for long-distance moves. Search around and find another option.
I got the runaround, delayed delivery by nearly a week, and indifference. The late delivery of my furniture and household items meant I had to stay in hotels for a week. Pricey.
After Hurricane Helene destroyed our home of 9 years, we loaded everything we had left into a 26-foot U-Haul truck rented from their Sweeten Creek location in Asheville, NC. When we temporarily lost the key and had to leave the truck overnight, it vanished. U-Haul didn’t tell us they had it, despite our daily contact. We only found out through our own efforts—not theirs.
Worse, when we tried to retrieve our belongings, the local manager dodged our calls, gave conflicting stories, and eventually threatened us with violence over the phone. U-Haul has since admitted to discarding everything we owned—furniture, electronics, family heirlooms, a Purple Heart medal, irreplaceable photos—without ever properly notifying us.
Needed medications for a life threatening condition disposed of, landing my partner in the hospital in critical condition!
We’ve spoken to corporate, the regional manager, even reached out to the CEO. Not one apology. Not one explanation. Not one act of accountability. Only silence and blame-shifting.
This isn’t just negligence—it feels malicious. And judging by other reviews, we’re not alone.
Avoid this location at all costs. And U-Haul: do better. We lost our home in a hurricane, and you destroyed what was left of our life.
We stored 3 boxes in Uhaul Medford for 4 years and then Uhaul international shipped to UK. Tylene was great in helping me sort all and kept me in the loop once the shipment had left. We received everything without 1 damage. Fabulous
At this location, the truck's rear door broke due to extremely rusted wires and we couldn't get any of the lower brass and percussion instruments out. the horrible part is that after calling, the people there said that if the truck breaks down on the road, it isn't their fault. not only that, but they also put 8-10 grade student at risk if the wires broke while someone was directly under the door. the concert was delayed greatly, and we only got the door open to get all the instruments out by wedging 2 tables underneath the door. after much arguing on the phone, the company finally sent two people to fix it, and while the time that helped was commendable, their results were not. the next day, the U haul was still broken, and we had to use the wedging techinque to open it for another concert
Terrible customer service and total rip-off, I was billed over twice what I was quoted. I told the kid in the store I was bringing it back and he could've told me it was going to cost more than double what he quoted but he seemed like he couldn't wait to get me out of there. I signed their contract quickly since I was in a hurry, so now I'm screwed out of over $900 over my quote!! I haven't used U-haul in over a decade and things have changed, I will never use them again. I would use any other rental company at this point, and especially this location. I talked to corporate and they told me that only the store could help me, and all they could do is knock off $29 (so essentially "tough luck pal"). Unbelievable rip-off!
Horrible customer service - they play favorites for tow hitches. Despite us having an appointment the GM made up some sad story contrary to their corporate 800 number that they are first come first served for tow hitches. Also, their mechanic - would not let him work on our kid’s fake car let alone a real one. Highly unethical behaviors from this company. The corporate office did not even bother to reach out to us about our experience when we contacted them. Take your money elsewhere if you want a company that values ALLL of its customers. This is the one in Manchester CT
Worst ever!! Truck was 5 hours late!! Dolly for car was not there. Would only give discount if we delivered the truck 2 hours away when we brought it back~~
A nightmare from beginning to end....
** PLEASE READ THIS AND TAKE NOTE TO IT. DO NOT WORK FOR U-HAUL**
I have never in my life worked for a company as shady and repulsive as U-Haul. At first it was a lot of fun. I was told time and time again that they will be here for you and we always have your back. Then I was diagnosed with Epilepsy and needed accommodations for my disability. U-Haul not only refused to accommodate me, they told me if I had an issue with their response, I could just leave because U-Haul wouldn't be a good fit for me. Mind you, I have a disability and I loved my job with every fiber of my being, and they treated me with the most disrespect ever. Then I came in one day, and they pulled two calls where they heard my kids in the background because their sitter was on vacation, and they wrote me up on a FINAL, not a written, A FINAL. The next day, I kid you not, I came in and was told that they were just gonna terminate me because I just wasn't a good fit for U-Haul. I now have two kids, just been diagnosed with Epilepsy, and have no job to support my family. Please, think about that the next time you go do business with them. Think about that because all they are worried about is profit. And they will replace people in a heartbeat. I loved working for them and I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty hurt by this because it makes me feel like a burden rather than a human being. Never will I do business with them. Please, there are so many other places to go. This is only my story....and you won't believe how many of these same stories are out there about how they treat their employees. We rented a U-Haul and transport trailer for our car to move from CO to OR. On the 28th of August the tire on the transport caught fire westbound on I84. Our car completely burned and all of our belongings are destroyed due to smoke damage. The fire chief said the situation could have been avoided and was due to bad wheel bearings. He also stated this was the second fire on a u-hail transport this week bc of the same reason. Thank God no one was hurt. We were told we were minutes away from an explosion.
Beware before using u-haul.

U-Haul boxes are the perfect solution, unfortunately, the customer service is the worst.
I reserved my U-Haul boxes in the middle of June, and I had everything settled with the dates. At the begging of July, I called to confirm everything and the trouble began. The instructions for the delivery were a complete mess. The advisor made the corrections, but the date of the delivery was moved. Instead of receiving my boxes on the 2nd of August, they moved them to the 5th.
On the 5th of August, I called again to ask about my boxes, and the answer was sorry we had to move the delivery till the 7th.
Of course, the delay in the delivery causes discomfort, we were without a bed and a sit for almost 3 weeks, but the biggest matter is about time. My wife ask for days of vacation and my son came from Ottawa to help me. U-Haul doesn't care about it. What if I paid for movers to help me? Do I lose the money?
Finally, I received my boxes yesterday.
In conclusion, call all the time until you get your delivery.
I'm waiting to receive the 50 daily dollars they promise for receiving my staff late. I think is fair from the 2nd of August.
A Good friend of mine was using the U-Haul Moving and Storage of Westside in Edmonton at 11120 154 St. and he experience discrimination and limitations on accessing his unit. This started months ago just after his Mother passed away he was at his storage unit organizing some things and for a brief time nodded off. The manager called the Police on him claiming that he was using to unit to sleep in and that he had it all on Video. My friend had just gone through a rough week but he was not sleeping in the unit, he was actually staying with me. The police hauled my friend away and bla blah. After that my Friend had restrictions on his unit, the Manager, Chane Munro, put a second lock on the Unit so now my friend could only access the unit at specific times and only for 2 hours under supervision, he had to call in advance and even when he called and told them he was coming he would get there and the key for the second lock was not there, it was in the managers pocket and he was conveniently not around. This went on for months and got worse, they kept changing his due date for fees and constantly sent him notices of late payments. Finally I helped him get his stuff out and to another place, not U-Haul, and this U-haul is still sending him notices of late payment and a telling him that his rent is going up next month. They are threatening to send his account to collections, charging interest. I mean seriously, he doesn't even rent a unit from them anymore and they are pulling this crap. All the restriction and bull they put him through was unfounded he wasn't using his unit as a place to sleep, he had been up for days and nodded of for a few minutes, anybody would have after going through the same experience he had that week.
I say this to all out there looking to rent a storage unit in Edmonton, DO NOT go to U-Haul Moving and Storage of Westside at 11120 154 St.
They have no clue what they are doing and they discriminate.
The basic service we paid for—truck rental—was inadequate. Never mind the shenanigans with their buggy online check-in, which seems broken by design so that you give up and use the app. Never mind that our first truck was parked in, so we had to walk back to get a different one. When we finally actually got into a rental vehicle, it had <50 miles' worth of gas in it and bald tires in the middle of a Minnesota snowstorm. They rented us a lemon, and we didn't realize until we were a few miles out.
But the worst aspect of using U-Haul is the impersonal and broken online customer service. They make it very difficult to contact them (no email addresses provided, phone line has a 35+ minute wait) and when you finally break down and use the live chat (the most hated option) the rep tells you they can't do anything about it and you'll have to email a branch manager.
U-Haul used to have a reputation for being solid but, in addition to now providing poor basic services, they seem to have implemented an anti-user digital-bureaucracy customer experience that feels greedy and predatory. Trying to force you to use their app; trying to sell you seven different moving services before you can check out; making it near-impossible to contact a human when something goes wrong: it'll be Home Depot vans from now on.
